TBD Lacrosse Camp emphasizing the growth of the sport in Colorado
https://coloradopreps.com/tbd-lacrosse-camp-emphasizing-the-growth-of-the-sport-in-colorado/

Quote
It’s no accident that some of the best talent in the game from a national level is heading to the Centennial State to help develop the next generation of stars. And they’re doing it by using the experience they had growing up in the game and trying to apply some of the missing components that will help kids today.

Kylie Ohlmiller is a perfect example.

She grew up in New York, a lacrosse hotbed, but wasn’t a highly recruited prospect coming out of high school. That didn’t stop her from putting together a great career at Stony Brook which carried over to the US National Team. She connected with TJ DeMartino and along with another East Coast legend in Casey Powell will be a part of a three-day youth lacrosse camp aimed at giving middle and high school level kids an opportunity to refine their skills.

“We’ve discovered the holes that are missing with what lacrosse players are doing with their development,” Ohlmiller said. “A lot of what’s out there are some one-off clinics where you go meet the faces of the sport, run through a couple of drills, and a lot of the drills are very similar. These players are just seeing a lot of situations that they’re used to.”

Show up, participate, go home.

That’s the model of these one-off camps that Ohlmiller has seen throughout the country. What the TBD Camp is looking to do is coach the players in a way that develops their strengths of the game and apply the training in a way that the kids can apply it to their individualized workouts once the camp is over.

“If I was back in my younger shoes and I saw something like this where I can go to an event, get high-level reps from great coaching and a professional player and then leave then event with actual controllables and an actual plan that’s programmed to my individual goals and my success and my weaknesses, I think myself and my parents would have been all for that,” she said.

“For Colorado, there is a ton of athletes, just like any area when you have some professional sports to grow up watching and fantasize about playing,” Ohmiller said. “Not only lacrosse is big professional there, but there’s football, basketball, hockey. Seeing lacrosse develop at the youth level from the grassroots, it’s getting those athletes to envision those moments for themselves.”

stanford went up 6-0 by the 2nd quarter.  odd for us, but lots of saves, faceoffs, and infractions, and that's how that happens.

but we won, 14-11.  that's 4-0 with three top 25 wins already.  this was the only game that was even close.

Gutsy comeback. A lot of questionable calls in this game. The officiating was brutal in my opinion. Great win tho.

Alyssa's Top 25: Several Unexpected Results, The Year of the Zone, Plus a Hot Take

Syracuse, Stony Brook, Denver, and James Madison all have been impressive on the defensive end—all playing stifling zones that make their opponents play “ugly lacrosse”—baiting risky passes and forcing teams to rely on ball movement and chemistry to beat them rather than pure speed and athleticism when dodging 1v1.

5. Stony Brook
The beginning of Stony Brook’s tilt with Stanford was ugly if you’re a Seawolves fan. They struggled to win draws, gave up some penalties, and didn’t get quality possessions offensively. But with solid in-game adjustments, Stony Brook turned the tide, showing why they’re in the mix of amongst the best of the best.

Ellie Masera continues to dominate offensively, playing more of an attacking role than years past. She remains a huge factor on the draw, beating players to the ball on repeat and could easily be one of the most explosive players on the field. Neutralizing her impact is necessary if you’re looking to top the Seawolves.

Lacrosse: What To Watch For: No. 3 Northwestern prepares to defend home turf against No. 4 Stony Brook

However, graduate student attacker Izzy Scane missed both games with a “day-to-day” injury, according to Amonte Hiller. Other players had to step up in her absence, and the Cats’ offense — excluding an eight-minute second quarter stretch against Vanderbilt — was business as usual.

Scane leads her team in points and goals, with 33 and 27, respectively. Scane will face the Seawolves on more than two weeks’ rest and will likely look to make up for lost time.

Coykendall, Scane, sophomore midfielder and defender Samantha White and graduate student goalkeeper Molly Laliberty each have played a vital role in the team’s early success. Coykendall and Scane’s efforts quickly jump out in the stat sheet, but White and Laliberty have been crucial to solidifying the Cats’ defensive effort.

With Rhatigan, Scane and Coykendall posing a possible triple threat on the attack, Stony Brook coach Joe Spallina must prepare a thorough defensive scheme to try and slow the Cats’ attack, or his team will enter a shootout against the nation’s top scoring side.

Women's Weekend Watch: Three Top 10 Clashes & A Pair of Conference Foes
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/women-s-weekend-watch-three-top-10-clashes-a-pair-of-conference-foes/60898

Friday, March 10
No. 4 Stony Brook at No. 3 Northwestern, 8 p.m. EST
The Seawolves have three ranked wins under their belt, most recently in comeback fashion against No. 18 Stanford. Northwestern has two ranked wins on the season, the most recent being a 15-14 victory over Boston College on February 19th.

The Northwestern offense has been on a tear since its season opening loss to Syracuse. Averaging over 20 goals a game, the Wildcats have four different players with 20 or more points through six games. Their leading scorer being a longtime star, Izzy Scane who’s notched 33 points (27G, 6A) through four games.

Scane was missing from the Northwestern lineup last weekend and would be a huge loss for the Wildcats when going up against Stony Brook’s dominant zone defense. With or without Scane, the Wildcats do have several other offensive weapons that the Seawolves will have to account for.

What Northwestern does so well offensively is balancing their sides of attack. With Erin Coykendall and Scane typically working the right-hand side, Madison Taylor (17G, 4A) and Dylan Amonte (14G, 6A) anchor the left side, either sending backside cuts or waiting for the ball to swing to their side and quickly attacking seams as their opponent shifts.

Ok. A 13-8 loss AT Northwestern does not mean the sky is falling...

We are 3-1 against ranked teams. Syracuse/Rutgers still to play. Plenty of opportunities to continue to improve the resume

Really a 12-8 loss if you discount NW’s best player scoring with 1 second left in the game for no reason other than being the classless program that NW is. (but they seem to get a pass).  If I were Spallina, I would’ve pulled the team off the field for final draw control with 0:01 on the clock. NW is notorious over the years for running up scores on inferior opponents and stat padding. This was a dirty game: 10 yellow cards and over 40 fouls between the two squads. On a side note, one Yale parent was trolling coach Spallina and the womens program on Twitter - even went as far as to call for  an NCAA investigation and boycott of our women’s team b/c her daughter suffered an unfortunate season-ending injury when we played Yale. We aren’t a blue blood and aren’t supposed to be this good so now the narrative is we play a dirty/violent brand of lacrosse.  It’s laughable.  It really is remarkable what this program has accomplished over the years with Spallina given the lack of respect/support from NCAA committee and others.

That parent is on the board of directors for the Disney Company, so it's just some big-shot trying to raise a storm with her profile
