Long Island natives solidifying legacies at Stony BrookIt was vintage Ohlmiller and Kennedy. The two have been opposite sides of the same coin since they started playing club lacrosse together on Long Island in fourth grade. But lacrosse also runs in Kennedy and Ohlmiller’s immediate families, and both had ties to Stony Brook. Kennedy grew up going to SBU games, where her sister, Cori, played from 2008-11. The two committed on the same day — Kennedy to Stony Brook and Ohlmiller to Towson. Ohlmiller thought she wanted to go away to school, but when she watched her sister become an overnight sensation at Stony Brook in 2015, she started having second thoughts. Playing on a top-10 lacrosse team with her sister for two years was a huge draw, as was reuniting with Kennedy for her entire collegiate career. With both at full-strength, they’re proving once again that opposites not only attract — they make for a potent combination. Like their places on the emotional spectrum, their games are different, but they balance one another out.“We work really well off each other,” said Kennedy. “I’m on the top of the field, and she’s behind the net. We get to see from different viewpoints. She’s a great feeder and low dodger. I dodge and send cuts from up top. Our styles and personalities mix well to help our offense.”
