WHAT WAS YOUR SENIOR QUOTE IN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK?
“See you on ESPN.” Wrote it as a joke. Didn’t think it would ever actually happen!

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL?
She might be younger than me, but I’ve always looked up to my sister Taryn, for always being true to who she is.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) will head to sunny West Palm Beach, Florida, this weekend to play at the IWLCA Presidents Cup with the United States National Team. All of the action at the cup is set to begin this Friday, Nov. 22 and go through Sunday, Nov. 24.

Kennedy is just one of five current collegiate players to be invited to play on Team USA's 27-women training roster by head coach Jenny Levy. She is also one of three Seawolves on the roster as she'll be joined by former teammates Kylie Ohlmiller ('18) and Mackenzie Burns ('19).

BEHIND THE LENS: A LOOK AT THE TOP LACROSSE PHOTOS OF 2019

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT (ON) TIME
BY JOHN STROHSACKER

The bus driver for the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team — known affectionately as Oz — rushed onto the field at Maryland to hoist Seawolves coach Joe Spallina onto his shoulder and celebrate a 10-9 win over defending NCAA champion James Madison in an NCAA tournament game May 10. The shocked expressions on the Stony Brook players' faces rivals that of Spallina.

I try to position myself at end of game to get players reacting toward their bench or to capture game stat leaders with their coaches or other players. I try to catch moments when they happen between players and with coaches and refs.

As Bill Belichick would say, just do your job.

They started out 4-4 which I can attest to struggling to adapt to a Ohlmiller/Murphy-less team. Then they won 12 in a row. I have higher hopes.

Women’s 2020 schedule is out and it is certainly a challenging one.  It will be interesting to see who will handle the draw controls this year and whether the goalie transfer from Rutgers can fill the void.  Expect some highly touted freshman to have an immediate impact as well.

this will be a good test.  not sure ANY team at SB has ever played this tough a schedule.  good job on spallina putting this together.  bound to knock off more than a few of those.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — If you want to know how much senior midfielder Ally Kennedy means to Stony Brook women's lacrosse, simply scroll through the contacts in head coach Joe Spallina's cell phone.

"I feel very strongly in saying that she is the best player in college women's lacrosse," said Spallina, whose seven-time-defending America East champion squad opens the 2020 season on Feb. 12 at second-ranked Syracuse. "What we ask her to do for our team is unparalleled — from being a captain, to running the offense and defense, to leading our draw team. She checks every box for us and leads us with goals, assists, draw controls, ground balls and, most importantly, in hustle. All of her success is due to her work ethic and love for the game.""Team-wise, I will not settle for anything less than a national championship," Kennedy said. "That's always going to be the goal."

2020 Face-Off Yearbook: Women's DI Preseason Player of the Year Watch

Ally Kennedy, M, Stony Brook, Sr.
Stony Brook was streaky early in 2019 before the Seawolves were able to find consistency and hit stride in April and May. Kennedy’s production never wavered throughout, posting a career-high 100 points (84G, 16A) in addition to grabbing 124 draws, 47 groundballs and causing 15 turnovers. Entering the 2020 as one of the—if not the—top midfielders in the nation, her odds of taking home a trophy that’s been awarded more often than not to players at her position looks strong.

NCAA LACROSSE PREVIEW: NO. 12 STONY BROOK (WOMEN)
https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/women/ncaa-lacrosse-preview-no-12-stony-brook-women

Quote
“She had a little bit of an attitude,” Spallina said. “I saw it, too, with the heart of a lion who is super competitive. Surround me with a group of kids with that attitude and that mindset, and we’re going to win a lot of games.”

The Seawolves have certainly won games, posting a combined record of 56-8 in Kennedy’s three seasons with the program, and although her future always seemed bright, the beginning of her career was rocky.

Kennedy and Spallina “butt heads” early on. Spallina, who prides himself just as much on teaching as he does on coaching, saw her potential and sought ways to bring it out. He said Kennedy didn’t always accept the style in which he went about doing so.

“That’s one of the things when you see something in a player, it’s your job as a coach and as a professional to get the best out of them,” Spallina said. “Player development is so important to us here, making a good player great.”

TEWAARATON WATCH
ALLY KENNEDY, M, SR.
She was a Tewaaraton nominee last year and an IWLCA first team All-American. She’s fourth in program history in goals (171) and seventh in points (221), not to mention her 195 draw controls ranking third all-time. She scored at least three goals in 17 of 21 games last season, and her speed is second to none.

ENEMY LINES
“Everybody else kind of hates them. I have a really high level of respect for what Joe and his staff do over there. I think their buy-in is absolutely incredible.”

“They kind of have an attitude or a swagger about them. They are fighting for every single ball like it’s their last. I think they play extremely hard.”

Ally Kennedy, Stony Brook — senior midfield

Kennedy is another Tewaraaton nominee and first team All-American on this list. This midfielder is crazy good. Kennedy averaged 4 goals per game last season which ranks sixth in the nation. She is also sixth in the nation in total goals with 84. She makes her presence known inside the eight and shoots from just about anywhere. Stony Brook's tournament run was cut short by Maryland last season, but Kennedy is coming back for more.
