GIVE & GO: JOE SPALLINA WEARS MANY HATS (AND RECENTLY, SUITS)

WHAT WAS YOUR SENIOR QUOTE IN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK?
It was weak, but I guess it has followed me around. “Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTATION?
“Let whoever think whatever; just keep getting better.” It’s big at Stony Brook.

WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE ATHLETE?
Pro: Kylie Ohlmiller. College: Ally Kennedy. High school: Joey Spallina.

IT’S 2029 — WHERE ARE YOU AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Retired, sitting on my boat, feet up reading a newspaper with the music on in the sun. Reality, probably watching my kids play somewhere.

It looks like Spallina added a goalie transfer from Rutgers. Goalie was going to be a big question mark next season. This is good news.

Stony Brook Named IWLCA Academic Honor Squad

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team has earned a spot on the IWLCA's Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad list, the IWLCA announced on Wednesday. In addition, Nicole Barretta (Exton, Pa.) and Sydney Gagnon (Dunbarton, N.H.) were named to the Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll.

The Seawolves were tabbed as one of 312 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA to earn the academic distinction. To qualify for the honor, a program must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher for the academic year.

Individually, Barretta, a graduate student studying Higher Education and Administration, and Gagnon, a junior majoring in business, earned spots on the academic honor roll following an excellent year in the classroom.

The IWLCA honored 509 student-athletes from 100 different institutions on this year's honor roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

The way early women's lacrosse top 25 rankings for the 2020 season

12. Stony Brook
2019 record: 16-5 (7-0 America East)

Stony Brook is one of the dominant forces of the modern era, making seven straight NCAA tournament appearances. But the relatively heavy losses the Seawolves took on the defensive end after the 2019 season is the reason they are marked outside of the top 10 on this list. Despite Mackenzie Burns (25 caused turnovers), Carlee Janelli (22 caused turnovers) and netminder Anna Tesoreiro all taking graduating from the program, Stony Brook's attack is still a daunting matchup for its opponents. Keeping dual threats Ally Kennedy (84 goals, 124 draw controls), Siobhan Rafferty (50 goals) and Taryn Olhmiller (36 goals, 35 assists) could keep the ball out of the defensive end of the field anyway. The Seawolves will be just fine and could find their way in our top 10 if they knock off ranked non-conference opponents early in the regular season.

Looks like one of our starting defenders from 2019 decided to transfer to Oregon. That’s the second player in two years to transfer out to Oregon. Oh well. Hopefully We have the depth on D to plug someone else right in without skipping a beat.

Veterans get second chance to shine in Women's Professional Lacrosse League championship

The first time WPLL Fight attacker Kylie Ohlmiller met lacrosse legend Katrina Dowd she was 15 years old and a 10th-grader at Islip High School in New York. She was a lacrosse nerd even back then, never going three sentences without bringing up lacrosse. She and her friends decided to take a trip to Stony Brook University -- where Ohlmiller would eventually end up playing NCAA lacrosse for four years -- to watch Northwestern vs. Maryland in the NCAA women's lacrosse final four.

"I was the girl that saw this legend [Dowd] and wanted to continue playing the sport," Ohlmiller said. "I want to be that person that pushes a young girl to pick up a sport and play the game. That's how we keep the circle alive."

Shonly Wallace now playing for University of Oregon and no longer a Seawolf.  That now makes 3 players  in the past two years to jump ship to Oregon specifically. Unfortunate. She was a stud in the UA All America game coming out of high school.

KYLIE OHLMILLER IS KNOWN EQUALLY FOR HER STAGGERING NUMBERS AT STONY BROOK – AN NCAA RECORD 498 CAREER POINTS — AND HER ELECTRIFYING STICK WORK

Kylie Ohlmiller, USA: Ohlmiller narrowly missed making the 2017 U.S. team roster while still a collegian and has become a fixture of the U.S. team program the last couple of years. Ohlmiller is known equally for her staggering numbers at Stony Brook – an NCAA record 498 career points — and her electrifying stick work. Combining that with the creative offensive minds like Katrina Dowd, Kayla Treanor and Michelle Tumolo is a sight to behold.

Kylie Ohlmiller leads the U.S. women's team will against Canada in the first matchup between the two teams since the 2017 International World Games in Poland.
