Great win. Good they didn’t take it deep into OT since Maryland will have fresh legs on Sunday.

I'm still upset we didn't win it all last year. Hoping for the huge upset tomorrow and at the very least going on a huge run.

Now they’re just bleeding points. They have to get it together.

It’s 8-6 now... ugly.

Didn’t get to watch but obviously a disappointing outcome. Anyone have any feedback? How was the officiating this time around? I recall when we played them in the tourney two years ago, the officials went out of their way to give UMD every edge. (Something like 20 to 2 in the whistle calls in that game)

Same story this year. Of especial note was Ally Kennedy getting tossed with two yellow cards. The second one was for her stick tapping a player as Kennedy’s shot followed through on a goal, so not only was the goal taken away but they lost their best player for most of the second half. Maryland was the better team but players should not be ejected for an unintentional penalty when simply shooting at the net. If they’re going to call that, make it three penalties and out rather than two.

Stony Brook got robbed. Blatantly. They rattle off four goals and all of a sudden start getting called for ticky-tack fouls. 10 in the first half alone.

Then Ally Kennedy gets two chicken-poop yellow cards and it's over. I forget who it was, but one of our players got a yellow for retaliating from an uncalled stick in the face.

These refs should never be let near a women's lacrosse game again. This was such highway robbery I played "Stick Up" at the end of the game.

Quote
But the offense sorely missed junior midfielder Ally Kennedy, who led the team in goals (84), points (99) and draw controls (118) but drew her second yellow card with 27:51 left in the second half and was forced to sit out the rest of the game.

Coach Joe Spallina questioned the officials’ decisions to waive off an apparent goal by junior attacker Taryn Ohlmiller because of a dangerous follow-through and another by Kennedy that would have given the Seawolves leads of 7-5 and 7-6, respectively.

“For a team like us, those have got to be goals,” he said. “At 6-6, we got 7-6 disallowed, and then it was 7-6 the other way. That’s a two-goal swing. So that’s tough for us because we have to fight for every little inch. Top to bottom, they’ve got Maseratis and Porsches. … We can’t endure that.”

There has to be protection for defenders against sticks following through during shot attempts, but when a player takes a pass and shoots, that's a part of the game. If that's going to incur a yellow card, it shouldn't result in a player (let alone a key one) ejected and changing the game outcome.

Article in Newsday has a similar quote from Coach Spallina referencing Maryland as having “ Ferrari’s and Maseratis” from top to bottom. However, the quote in  Newsday goes further on to where Spallina calls our program a “a mom and pop shop” by comparison.  Not sure it helps build the brand when you are referring to your program as a mom and pop shop. I get it. I think we all get it. But I’m not sure how some of his players might feel about it. Despite that loss, we still have top-tier D-1 players on this roster. Nobody has the depth that a Maryland has. They are the standard.

Agreed, Spallina slipped up saying that.
