'THE TIME IS NOW:' A ROUNDTABLE WITH CUMMINGS, MCCOOL, OHLMILLER AND TUMOLO

Kylie Ohlmiller’s friends didn’t believe she would actually publish the words in the senior goodbye section of their Islip High School Class of 2014 yearbook.

“Watch me,” she said.

Sure enough, when the yearbook came out, there they were.

“See you on ESPN.”

Two years later, as a sophomore for the fast-rising Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team, Ohlmiller made good on that promise with an appearance on “SportsCenter” for a diving behind-the-back goal in an April 2016 game against Johns Hopkins.

“She’s the best player on the planet, period,” Seawolves coach Joe Spallina said then. “Case closed.”

It was the first of four — count ’em, four — times Ohlmiller landed on ESPN’s flagship program over the course of a college career that also saw her surpass the great Jen Adams as the NCAA’s all-time scoring leader.

Kylie Ohlmiller, a two-time Tewaaraton finalist and Brine/New Balance signee who broke NCAA scoring records at Stony Brook, hosted her first clinic for her business, KO17 Lacrosse, on Sept. 9.

to the extent anyone thinks you can actually rank tens of thousands of recruits in different regions with no actual benchmark, SB's recruiting class is "ranked" 27th. https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/college/league/Women's+Division+I/7

no matter; we are still a national championship contender.  doing more with "less".

It's all BS.. Maryland has a total of 57* and SB has 4* but yet SB, Towson and BC will beat them 4 out 5 times.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Current Stony Brook women's lacrosse member Ally Kennedy had a tremendous outing as a member of the United States Women's National Team at the USA President's Cup, which was held Nov. 16-18 in Lake Buena Vista.

"I am extremely proud of Ally," said Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina. "She epitomizes everything a Stony Brook lacrosse player is about. She is a relentless worker with a great attitude and a desire to be great. It was great to see the amount of heads she turned in Florida with her ability to play two ways and her shooting was off the charts."

Kennedy had a breakout game against the UWLX squad, leading Team USA with four goals and adding in two assists in a 17-7 win. As a member of the White team in the intra-squad match, she had one goal and one assist. The national team also topped the WPLL in a 10-9 decision.

Kennedy played alongside a familiar face as Kylie Ohlmiller also suited up in the Red, White and Blue.

spallina to step away from coaching the NY Lizards but remain as GM: https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/fuel/daily-digest/dialed-in-your-lacrosse-fix-for-wednesday-dec-12

2. The New York Lizards announced that Joe Spallina will step away from his position of head coach, but maintain the role of general manager.

Spallina, who has served as the general manager and coach since 2012, will be in charge of finding a successor for the 2019 season.

He credited his growing list of coaching positions — he also leads the Stony Brook women’s program and is a U.S. national team assistant — as a factor in his decision.

3. Taryn Ohlmiller is recovered and reloaded
The 2018 season didn’t have the Hollywood ending that Stony Brook had hoped for, in large part due to an untimely injury to the Seawolves’ star sophomore Taryn Ohlmiller. In Stony Brook’s round-of-16 matchup with Penn, the younger Ohlmiller sister fell awkwardly with a torn ACL. She was unable to play in the Seawolves’ quarterfinal contest at Boston College, in which the unstoppable Long Island offense was stopped, and the Stony Brook season came to a crushing end.

Now a year later, her knee has been cleared for contact, and Taryn will try to prove she’s more than just Kylie’s sister.

Let’s compare the two Islip siblings, through their sophomore seasons:

Kylie Ohlmiller (2015-16): 41 games, 86 goals, 91 assists, 57.0 percent shooting

Taryn Ohlmiller (2017-18): 42 games, 117 goals, 91 assists, 53.2 percent shooting

Kylie finished her NCAA women’s lacrosse career as the most prolific scorer in the history of the sport, and yet Taryn is outpacing her as an underclassman. Taryn’s 208 career points are the second-most in the country among players currently entering their junior season, trailing only Navy’s Kelly Larkin.

If Ohlmiller can make a successful recovery from the injury and play a full season, there’s no reason Stony Brook won’t be in the picture at the end of the year.
