The story of Courtney Murphy, the women’s lacrosse goal queen
A look at how a B-level club player who won three games in high school has etched her name into the NCAA record book

Many coaches didn’t see her play, being a B squad club player on a bad high school team. Others were skeptical. They said she was just a “catch-and-shoot” player. They didn’t like her big personality. They doubted her athleticism.

The numbers are unbelievable. Murphy has scored a hat trick in 56 of 78 career games. She’s the only player, male or female, to score 100 goals in a single season.

In 27 career America East conference games, Murphy has 124 goals. In those games, the opposing teams have 123 goals.

Stony Brook began having autograph sessions after every game, the best attended in the nation. Little girls across Long Island wanted to wear No. 18 and No. 17 to be like Murph or Kylie.

7 lacrosse records that are most likely to be broken this season
https://www.ncaa.com/news/lacrosse-men/article/2018-04-12/7-lacrosse-records-are-most-likely-be-broken-season

Quote
Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook, Career Points, Assists
Ohlmiller gives us a two for one on this list. After setting the record for points in a single season during her junior year, Ohlmiller will most likely wrap up her career as the all-time leader in career points. She has to beat the record of 445 points set by Jen Adams for Maryland in 1998-2001. The senior is currently 23 points away from breaking Adams’ record. She's averaging almost seven points per game, so this is easily obtainable for the senior.

Another stand out stat for Ohlmiller’s junior year was her 86 assists last season. That puts her on track to potentially set the record for career assists. Northwestern alum Hannah Nielsen recorded 224 career assists from 2006-09. The senior currently has 31 assists this season, brining her career total to 208. This season, she is averaging 2.6 assists per game, and given the Seawolves success this season, Ohlmiller could find himself with some more game appearances to get close to beating the previous record.

And a fun fact to go with all the accolades, all of this earned Stony Brook's star to become the school's first female bobblehead.

Stony Brook - Team Records
With the help of Ohlmiller, as well as other 2018 season offensive stat leaders on the Seawolves team, the top-ranked Stony Brook’s women’s team is on pace to break several team records this season.

Last year they set the record for assists per game, averaging 10.09 (222 in 22 games). So far this season, the squad has tallied 129 assists through 12 games (10.75 average per game).

Let’s also add points per game. In 2017, Stony Brook averaged 26.18 (576 in 22 games). The Seawolves currently have 336 points through 12 games.

One last one! Stony Brook is also on track to break the record for scoring margin per game in a season. In 2009, Northwestern set the record at 10.83 (407 goals, 158 goals allowed in 23 games). Currently, the Stony Brook squad is at 11.25 (207 goals, 72 goals allowed in 12 games).

This team is special. I was planning a trip back to NY from VA this year anyway but arranged it for championship weekend so I will (hopefully) see them win it all.

THE TEWAARATON LOCKS

Quote
Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook, Attack, Sr.
-What’s her argument? A season ago, Ohlmiller broke two longstanding single-season NCAA records in Jen Adams’ points record (148) and Hannah Nielsen’s assists record (83), setting her own single-season records with 164 points and 86 assists. This spring, she’s posted 57 goals and 36 assists, bringing her career total to 224 goals and 220 assists for 444 career points. She is now just two points shy of Jen Adams’ NCAA career points mark (445), and five assists away from Hannah Nielsen’s NCAA career record total of 224.

-Last time out: In a weekend swing that brought Johns Hopkins to town on Friday evening and New Hampshire on Sunday’s Senior Day, Ohlmiller totaled 21 points. Against the Blue Jays, posted game-highs in goals (6) and helpers (5) to follow that up with a hat trick and a game-high seven assists vs. New Hampshire.

-Top performance in 2018: Ohlmiller’s had a number of highlight-reel worthy performances in 2018, but I think her most important performances came in a pair of crucial wins for Stony Brook in terms of NCAA Tournament seeding. Against Towson on March 17 (W, 13-8), Ohlmiller scored a game-high seven goals and dished out an assist. She scored five of the game’s final seven goals to keep the win in place. Two weeks prior, she posted five points (3G, 2A) in the Seawolves’ win over Northwestern, 15-10. All three sit alongside one another in the NCAA RPI ranks released on April 8: No. Towson, No. 8 Stony Brook and No. 9 Northwestern.

Brooke Gubitosi, Stony Brook, Sr.
Stony Brook’s defense is tops in the NCAA, allowing just six goals per game. Gubitosi leads the unit.

Carolyn Carrera’s play makes SBU senior day a winner
https://www.newsday.com/sports/college/stony-brook/carolyn-carrera-s-play-sbu-makes-senior-day-a-winner-1.18063952

Carrera, a starting defender in every game this season, contributed most in the draw circle. Considered the No. 2 option on the depth chart behind junior Keri McCarthy, Carrera drew the start in the circle as a senior and dominated, helping Stony Brook win 25 of 28 draws.

“I think it’s really a tribute just to the mentality we have on this entire team,” said Carrera, who played her first two years at Hofstra. “Every day we’re getting after it, so we have draw practice every single day. Yeah, I wasn’t seeing that time on the field in the games, but we were still putting in that work every single day.”

Stony Brook’s senior class has been instrumental in the program’s rise to the top of the rankings, accruing 86 wins to date and winning each of the last five America East championships. Gubitosi, a defender who scored her second career goal Sunday, was happy to share the field with her class.

are we preparing for the annual screwjob???

im doubting SB will get the #1 seed. https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/women/bracketology-determining-top-seeds-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder

Quote
Given this breakdown, we seed Team B first (Maryland), Team A (Boston College) second and Team C (Stony Brook) third. The Eagles jump Stony Brook from last week’s bracket projections and could overtake Maryland if they finish the season undefeated.

Despite an undefeated record, Stony Brook will be bogged down by a weak America East schedule that has been made even weaker in the absence of another NCAA Tournament-caliber team like Albany. A quality home game against Penn State remains on April 24, but that will be the only decent game remaining on the schedule. Nevertheless, should the Seawolves win out, they’ll be seeded among the top four and home games through the entire tournament as they are the hosts of the NCAA semifinals and final this year.

Pod: Stony Brook, N.Y.
3-seed: Stony Brook (America East AQ)
Navy (Patriot League at-large) vs. UMass (Atlantic-10 AQ)
Pod notes: Stony Brook is ranked #1 in the polls, but #8 in RPI, will be an interesting discussion for the committee. All three of these teams have top-10 scoring offenses in the NCAA.

And that goes back to my point with Warney getting the cold shoulders because of playing for SB, which ultimately is in a weak conference.. SB needs to get out of this garbage conference for all sports. The time is now or nobody will ever care who we are or what  sport we are in.

If kylie gets snubbed again then we will all know
