Somebody explain to me  how the Seawolves can be the undefeated conference champions, only lose one game all season (to a no. 3 ranked team) and be ranked no. 4 nationally--yet, only be a #8 seed and not get a first round bye!!

The America East is a God-awful Conference!

What's troubling, is how is Penn St seeded 4th when they lost to Northwestern and Colorado, while Stony Brook beat both these teams.  Someone or some people are out to get someone!

Also, you be surprised how unqualified some of the memberships  are on the selection committee.

No respect for the America East . Big conferences will always  have more say and sway than the little guys.

its rather simple.  one sees the NCAA selection process and thinks, the teams should line up in order.

that's not how it works.  there are geographical considerations.  also, asses in the seats.  which means tv, merch, concessions, $$$.

see the men's bracket.  denver vs AFA.  ND vs marquette.  PSU vs towson. http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/2017-men-s-ncaa-di-tournament-bracket-maryland-is-top-seed/49421

We are  talking the women's bracket, not the men.
None of the men criteria works on why Penn St is seeded higher than Stony Brook.
Geographically it's negligible.
Stony Brook would have greater attendance than any other school except for maybe Maryland. More merchandise and more concessions would be sold at Stony Brook.
None of the games will be on "tv" prior to the semis. If the games were televised the ratings would be .00000000001

It all comes down to common opponents with Stony Brook and Penn State.
Based on this, Stony Brook got screwed!

Agreed. SB did get screwed. The only way to prove these naysayers wrong is, WIN!!!!

i agree too that they got screwed.

but the bottom line is the cmte has a human element- an override if you will.

and that's how this happened.

It sounds like a member or two on the Committee might not be the biggest fans of Spallina.

While pollsters have the Seawolves fourth in the country, their NCAA resume lacked major wins – namely wins above their ranking – despite an excellent 18-1 record.

“All selection, seeding and bracketing principles were followed, including the ability to move seeds across and up and down seed lines to build the bracket.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook, Jr. A

The nation’s leading scorer dishes and scores at ease. As the catalyst of the Seawolves offense, look for Ohlmiller’s skill to shine. It would be a treat to see it on display in a potential matchup against No. 1 Maryland.

I'm quite certain the AE conference had everything to do with the seeding... SB really needs to move out of this conference if they want to gain respect from the cmte in the future.. Just move all sports into the CAA already.. Moving into the MEEC, Patriot league would only be a lateral.. The CAA is a arguably a step up

same point; its not just lining up the teams in order.

therefore, forget the polls.  polls dont always consider SoS, RPI, OOC.

cmte may consider other factors.

We tried to do that, but Hofstra blocked us the last time. Besides, we'd be moving all sports from a single one bid league to another and increasing the travel costs. Is it really worth sending our teams to the Carolinas in the middle of the week just to be in another one bid league? The only non FBS move I'd make is to the A10.

Sure the committee screwed over the wLAX team on seeding, but being in the CAA alone wouldn't fix that. The CAA isn't what it once was when ODU, VCU, etc. were in the conference years ago and George Mason made the final four.
