Tough draw, tough loss, great team.

I watched that game. What a heartbreaking loss. When we were up by 2 goals late in the first half I really thought SB had this game, even though SB was losing the Draws. the defense was solid with stopping Syracuse and we were making goals fairly easy in the first half.... I thought this was their year to finally advance to the Quarter finals.. SB returns 92% of their starters next year so they should be just as competitive if not better than this year..

The Stony Brook Women’s Lacrosse Team’s Evolution into a National Powerhouse

Stony Brook University’s women’s lacrosse team is consistently one of the best in the nation. Five years ago, that would have seemed like a pipe dream.

Through 2009-2011, the team had posted an 11-35 record. Ever since former Stony Brook Director of Athletics Jim Fiore hired Joe Spallina to take over the head-coaching job, the women’s lacrosse program has found annual success. The team has gone 80-17 during Spallina’s five-year tenure.

“We haven’t made it a secret that we love Long Island kids and they’re a huge part of our success,” Spallina said. “On my way home, I pass five high schools that play high-level lacrosse. Those girls have an opportunity to play lacrosse in their backyard at Stony Brook.”

“I think the biggest thing for us early on in our recruiting is that everyone wants the five-star lacrosse player,” Spallina said. “We’re okay with taking the three or four-star lacrosse players with a five-star work ethic and work on developing them into a five-star player.”

wayyyy too early 2017 top twenty: http://laxmagazine.com/college_women/DI/2015-16/news/060616_early_look_d1_women_top_20_for_2017

4. Stony Brook

Number of Starters Lost: 2
Starting Goalie Graduate? No.
Percentage of Point Production Lost: 7.17%

The 2017 season could very well be the year of the Seawolves. They've been building one of the strongest teams over the past couple seasons, gaining experience playing against the best teams in Division I. Stony Brook has one of the best case scenarios among 2016 NCAA tournament teams returning a majority of its starting lineup, including new NCAA Division I single-season scoring record holder Courtney Murphy, who finished with 100 goals.

Worst decision in the postseason accolades season: Stony Brook's Courtney Murphy's exclusion from becoming a Tewaarton finalist is mind-boggling. If breaking the NCAA Division I single-season scoring record for a top 10 team and a national power isn't enough, I'm not sure what is. Could it be that the front of her jersey says Stony Brook, and not one of the traditional powers? This process clearly needs to be re-evaluated.

Courtney murphy was named to the all-IL women's team: http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ilwomen-postseason-all-ilwomen-team/35559

Courtney Murphy, Stony Brook (Jr.)

Murphy was the only player to break the 100-point threshold in 2016 as the automatic scorer for Stony Brook, tallying 100 goals and 16 assists. The First Team All-American led the country in goals per game (4.76) and points per game (5.52) for the Seawolves, who ranked fourth in the country in scoring margin.

Attacker Kylie Ohlmiller (Stony Brook '18), whose application to try out for the 2015-16 team was denied, made the training team in her first U.S. tryout.

Which players improved from day one to day three? U.S. team selectors took note especially of Ohlmiller and midfielder Nicole Graziano (Florida '16) for their ability to accept their mistakes, synthesize feedback and adjust accordingly. Both were on the bubble entering Sunday.

Ohmiller "played her way onto the team just by her presence and ability to be dynamic creating opportunities for herself and others," Fried said, while Graziano "worked her way into everyone's consciousness" with a "super-gritty, super-competitive" approach to drills and scrimmages.
