“Top to bottom, this is by far the most talented team we’ve ever had, with depth we’ve never had,” Spallina said. “We’re going to have competition in practice for playing time that will hopefully take away some of the void from missing fall ball.”

Spallina has tabbed this freshman class as his most talented ever, and at least three are already in mind for starting spots. Midfielder Ellie Masera boasts “off-the-charts” stick skills and can dodge at-will, according to Spallina. Midfielder Jaden Hampel is also a skilled dodger, and attacker Caitlin Dellecave is an athletic lefty.

“They’re going to put people on notice day one,” he said. “They’re not projects.”

“Our AD is business as usual until told otherwise, and I’m on that path,” he said. “I fly by the seat of my pants pretty well, so I’m ready to adjust. If we have to meet someone halfway to play a game, we will. Whatever I have to do as a leader as Stony Brook women’s lacrosse to put my players in a position where they have a really good experience.”
