We had 15 different goal scorers tonite. I wonder if that’s a program record.
The good thing about playing in a weak conference is having the luxury of resting your injured players while still being assured of winning.

2. Stony Brook women’s lacrosse picked up its biggest win of the season Tuesday at Homewood Field, scoring the final three goals to down No. 13 Johns Hopkins 12-9.

The Blue Jays got out to a 3-1 lead and controlled much of the first half until the Seawolves closed with two goals to take a 6-5 lead at the break.

Down 8-6, Johns Hopkins got goals from Maggie Schneidereith and Miranda Ibello to tie the game at 8-8. The teams traded goals before Stony Brook caught fire over the final 13 minutes to seal the game. Sara Moeller scored the final Seawolves goal — her third on the day. Ally Kennedy chipped in four goals and two assists.

Beat USC Sunday and they should make the top 15, which will help for tournament seeding.

A huge week for the women capped off with a home win vs #14 USC.  It was good to see TO back on the field for this one. Keep it going!

What a week for Stony Brook.

The No. 19 Seawolves picked up their third win in six days — two of them against Top 20 teams — with a 12-10 victory over No. 16 USC on Sunday on Long Island.

Stony Brook, which won at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday and against league rival Albany on Friday, raced out to an early 4-0 lead only to see USC score the final five goals of the first half to knot the score 6-6 at the half.

USC’s Kelsey Huff scored less than a minute into the second half to push the Trojans’ scoring run to six straight goals and give USC its first lead of the game.

Stony Brook’s Nicole Barretta ended a 16-plus minute scoring drought for the Seawolves, tying the game 7-7 with 24:26 left in the second half.

Ally Kennedy restored the Stony Brook lead with 20:47 to play and then assisted on Siobhan Rafferty’s goal and added another of her own to complete a four-goal run that gave Stony Brook a 10-7 lead with 18:27 left.

USC got back within a goal twice, the last on Huff’s goal with 2:01 to play that made the score 11-10, but Kennedy sealed the victory when she beat a double team and raced to an open net and scored with 1:43 left.

Kennedy had five goals in the victory, Rafferty had three and Anna Tesoriero made 11 saves to register the win for Stony Brook (10-4).

Emily Concialdi and Huff each had three goals for USC (13-3).

Stony Brook’s 3-0 week, which included victories over ranked teams like Johns Hopkins and USC, caused a ripple effect throughout Division I.

Entering last week, the Seawolves were 38th in the RPI and 46th in strength-of-schedule. This meant that Stony Book appeared in our projections only as the America East champion and as a “significant loss” to Colorado. Significant losses are categorized as those to teams ranked 31st or worse in the RPI.

Three wins later, Stony Brook shot up 19 spots to No. 19.

Now, Stony Brook appears as a significant win for Princeton, Florida and Stanford, who benefited the most by grabbing its first significant win. Florida (12th) and Princeton (10th) moved up three and four places, respectively, in the RPI. Stony Brook becomes Stanford's first Top 20 win.

Quote
Stony Brook has gained the most over the past two weeks in the S-Curve, which ranks the teams included in the NCAA tournament. The Seawolves’ win over USC moved its RPI up 18 spots gives them a strong at-large profile should they need it

WOMEN'S NOTEBOOK: STONY BROOK HAS FOUND ITS IDENTITY
https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/women/womens-notebook-stony-brook-has-found-its-identity

Quote
Ally Kennedy and Stony Brook have their identity and their confidence now, and that could make them a dangerous team in the coming month.

The junior midfielder was named the Brine/USL Player of the Week after scoring 22 combined points in wins over then-No. 13 Johns Hopkins, Albany and then-No. 16 USC to push the Seawolves’ winning streak to six games.

“Our defense is back to the identity of our team,” Spallina said. “I think we got away from it a little bit last year. When you have the type of offensive firepower we had you can sometimes get away from who you really are, and for us it’s that blue collar defense where we’re able to turn good defense into easy offense. For us, it was stripping it down and getting back to the original version of Stony Brook defense. It’s something that our kids take great pride in.”
