And Joe Spalina is hot as Hell right now. The Twitter board is on fire.. I say just win out and stick it to the committee .

UA got a #2 Seed with two losses and one really bad blemish on their record. Make it to the Championship game and the Committee will have no choice but to start respecting SB, otherwise heads will be rolling from the top!!!!!!!

Stony Brook. Stony Brook. Stony Brook.

It’s becoming a theme, everyone.

For a second straight year, the Seawolves feel maligned by the operation of the NCAA Selection Committee. Stony Brook is the No. 5 seed despite being a unanimous No. 1 in all human polls because objective analysis of the selection criteria dictates it so. Even committee chair Janna Blais agrees.

“[The Seawolves] are truly an outstanding team,” Blais said. “I expect them to go very far in the tournament. We couldn’t get them higher when we looked at the criteria.”

“That’s a really difficult piece of our process — we can’t take into consideration the eye test,” Blais continued. “It’s not part of the criteria. We don’t look at when a win occurred in the season. We don’t take into consideration injuries at a particular game or when they lost to or another team. We end up splitting hairs over significant wins and what is considered a significant loss.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook

The senior out of Islip, N.Y., has been terrorizing opposing defenses all year. Ohlmiller has 145 points this season on 81 goals and 64 assists. Included in that are five games with at least 10 points.

It was always going to be hard to slot Stony Brook because of its lack of comparable schedule with the other teams and its conference schedule is so poor. Nevertheless, the Seawolves did nothing wrong. This probably speaks more to the procedure than this committee, but it seems like the criteria might need some tweaking to allow for the Stony Brooks of the world to exist and succeed. (For example, introduce a winning percentage component for the significant win criteria.)

It was the second straight year Stony Brook got a questionably low seed. Last year, Stony Brook was the No. 8 seed and gave Maryland its toughest game of the tournament, falling 13-12 in the NCAA quarterfinals. Six of Stony Brook's wins this year came against tournament teams.

"Wherever they put us, I'm not going to cry about it," said Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina when he visited US Lacrosse for the Major League Lacrosse Draft in April. "I'm not sure If we get mis-seeded, that it's going to be fair to the team that has to play us because in my opinion we're the best team."

The important thing is they get the bye. Of course if/when they play BC in the quarterfinals they’ll have to play in Boston, but the disappointing seed could work to fire them up.

“We have the No. 1 non-conference RPI in the country. There’s nothing that [the selection committee] is going to tell me that’s going to justify us not being No. 1. Nothing.”

Stony Brook put together the nation’s top non-conference RPI this season by going 8-0 against ranked opponents. The Seawolves outscored those opponents by a combined 128-64.

let's enjoy this headline one more time: https://www.newsday.com/sports/college/stony-brook/stony-brook-womens-lacrosse-america-east-championship-1.18422823

Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team wins America East title
The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team celebrates after defeating Albany in the America East championship game at LaValle Stadium on Sunday.

Quote
The Seawolves’ offense started slowly because Albany (9-9) locked off the dodge of Kylie Ohlmiller. Spallina then switched Taryn Ohlmiller into the feeder’s role. This change, which Spallina is comfortable making, helped the offense go on a 12-2 run to erase a 7-6 deficit.

“They were locking off Kylie’s dodge, so that was our cue to put Kylie in the middle and have her cut,” Taryn Ohlmiller said. “If you lock off her dodge, we just use her a different way.”

Quote
Murphy and Brooke Gubitosi are redshirt seniors who now have five America East titles. They’ve experienced only one AE defeat in five years, an overtime loss to Vermont as freshmen.

Yep, predictably, we got screwed over again by the committee. They just don't respect anybody not in the P5 (even though JMU got the 3 seed, the hell....). It would help to get out of the AE and at least get into the CAA for everything and get the perception bump that comes with that. Damn Hofstra...

On the bright side, the final four is going to be right here at Lavalle, and even as the top seed, we'd be playing a very tough one loss team anyway, so effectively this doesn't really matter too much. Let's just win out and get that national title on our home field. BC, Maryland, JMU, UNC.... all very good teams, so I don't necessarily think we'd have dodged a bullet by getting a higher seed.

The ladies got robbed... again!

This time more obvious than ever!

As I posted on FB earlier. I'm sure the Committee placed them as 5th seed because it didn't want an easy path for Stony Brook. If Stony Brook was anything higher than a fifth seed they would be hosting the second round and the QF (if they win against Penn St. /UPenn) and then play at home the rest of the way (Semifinals/Championship hosted at LaValle) assuming they win. This is a big IF and we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves... But the NCAA is avoiding a non-power 5 getting such a path at all costs.

I’m not sure considering the NCAA gave Albany (non-power 5) a 2 seed despite a bad loss. One poster on laxpower suggested there’s an inherent bias against ladies teams with male coaches.

You've got to be kidding me lol. What a time to be alive! How people can be so petty is beyond me, but there ya go I guess. They must hate what Geno Auriemma is doing at Uconn then.

You are talking on the men's side vs women's side. Not a fair comparison.

We are talking about Stony Brook having the opportunity of playing every game at home all the way to the NCAA championship game. You know the NCAA won't make it THAT easy for non power-5 program even if they deserved the #1 or #2 seed. I don't think the sex of the coach has to do much with it.

The AE conference is the kiss of death. I've been preaching that for years and a few on this board always disagree. Well people. The proof is in the putting. SBWL got hosed because of this conference.
