Spallina is going to become the Geno Auriemma of women's college lacrosse and it starts with a national championship this fall

This guy is amazing. I really hope we can keep him for a long long time! Has built a powerhouse at Stony Brook!!!

Ok. I knew we were gonna be top 10. but TOP2. Now that's madness.

I think I'm gonna have to catch some games this season. Every year it gets better

They are so good that they are now officially a Revenue Sport:

"For the first time in program history, tickets will be sold for Stony Brook's home games in LaValle Stadium. More ticket information will be made available soon."

WOW!

Also, it seems like Albany MLAX is Elite on the Men's side also. Great for the America East Conference

US LACROSSE NAMES WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM COACHING STAFF
https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/usa-insider/senior-women/us-lacrosse-names-womens-national-team-coaching-staff

Quote
Spallina is entering his seventh season as the head coach at Stony Brook and has transformed the program into one of the nation’s best. The Seawolves have reached the NCAA tournament five straight years, and last season won a school record 20 games while pushing eventual national champion Maryland to the brink in a 13-12 loss in the NCAA quarterfinals. Spallina is 101-20 as head coach at Stony Brook, and prior to that went 73-2 in four years at Adelphi, winning three NCAA Division II titles. A 1996 graduate of Adelphi, Spalling was a four-year starting midfielder and helped the Panthers win two NCAA Division II championships. He also serves as the head coach of the New York Lizards in Major League Lacrosse, and led the squad to the 2015 MLL championship.

20 MOMENTS THAT MADE OUR YEAR

RECORD KO’D
2017 was a special year for Stony Brook's No. 17. Kylie Ohlmiller set the NCAA single-season scoring record.

Kylie Ohlmiller was an offensive force even before the 2017 season, but she stepped up in the absence of fellow Stony Brook attacker Courtney Murphy. Ohlmiller broke the Division I single-season points record with 164 on 78 goals and 86 assists, leading the Seawolves to the NCAA quarterfinals.

always nice to get the lead photo.

APUZZO, MCCOOL, OHLMILLER AND WHITTLE ARE PRESEASON PLAYER OF YEAR FINALISTS
https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/women/apuzzo-mccool-ohlmiller-and-whittle-are-preseason-player-of-year-finalists

Throw in some defensive dark horses including Stony Brook’s Brooke Gubitosi, USC’s Lydia Sutton or Terps goalie Megan Taylor, and the race widens. Plus numerous attackers could rise to the top of the charts this season such as Madison Carter (Penn State) or Riley Donahue (Syracuse).

KYLIE OHLMILLER
STONY BROOK
Ohlmiller, the first Tewaaraton finalist in Stony Brook and America East history, could be a shoo-in for the Tewaaraton in 2018. She topped the points record set by the first-ever Tewaaraton recipient Jen Adams with 164 in 2017. She’s on track for another record season as the Seawolves host the NCAA championship in May.

Stony Brook, which pushed Maryland to the brink in the NCAA quarterfinals, is No. 2 in the rankings. The Seawolves feature three 100-point scorers, including Tewaaraton finalist Kylie Ohlmiller, who set the NCAA single-season record with 164 points in 2017, and Courtney Murphy, who set the NCAA single-season record with 100 goals in 2016. Murphy, a redshirt senior, is coming back from an ACL injury that sidelined her for most of last season.

PRESEASON TOP 20

2. Stony Brook
3. North Carolina
4. Penn State
5. Syracuse

That is an elite group  we are in !   Too bad our other sports cant match that or even get close.  National Champs on our turf in May would be great for the program and the school .

The bottom line is that we should be dominant in lacrosse. Our recruiting base on Long Island and the importance of the game to this region can't be overstated.
