I don't expect SBU to beat the Terps but next year could be the year they go all the way. Most if not all of their top weapons will be back, and a year better.  If lightning strikes twice and they do make it to the  semifinals this year, it would rival the upset when baseball beat LSU to make it to the College World Series in 2012.

58-15 fouls against SB is all on the Big10 officials and favoritism. The time for SB to move out of the AE is now.. SB was and is better than the Terps this year and an lost to a school from the AE would be a totally embarrassing the the BIG10 and Maryland. The officials know this as well.. This will continue to happen to any school associated with the AE. We see it in basketball and now lacrosse. I am sick to my stomach because SB had this game all the way to the end..

It was such a frustrating thing to see. I only watched the last few minutes or so, but we dominated the whole match only to lose it at the end. I never would have thought I'd care about a WLAX game, but I did. Soooo close.  >:(

Ok, but where would we go? There's only one non-FBS move I think we should make if the opportunity arose and that would be to the A10. Any other league would be at best a lateral move that would baloon the travel costs for no good reason.

We're talking about LAX in particular, and LAX might be the AE's strongest sport with us and Albany frequently being ranked. Conference affiliation screws us over, but not necessarily in LAX. Hell if the NCAA rules were different, we may very well have found ourselves being an affiliate in the B1G. We're a public AAU flagship in NY. We're basically a B1G school without the tradition, enrollment, and massive football stadium.

Albany just beat North Carolina an ACC team in mens lax. Calls go agsinst teams all the time thats why its called homecooking. SB tried getting all sports to go to the CAA and was blocked by Hofstra. SB wont be joining a major conf anytime soon if not ever. All sports CAA would be the best option and maybe that can be revisited. This loss reminds me of the mens 2010 loss to Virginia in the quarters. This does set up nice for next yr at LaValle. Still frustrating, but the tank is still full.

The CAA is nice but also a 1 bid league in  all sports including lax, baseball and hoops. The CAA is not an answer . I see us in the AE for quite awhile plodding along .  If you are going to move  up you need funding and an invite from an FBS Conference and that's a long way away .  This was a shame our girls lost  since they were  clearly they  were the better team on the field .

Listen. I know and understand everything about the CAA being a one bid league, however. The CAA is a step or two higher than the AE conference as far a nationwide recognition and schools who are stronger in Athletics.. The A-10 is a Basketball league and thats great for SBB, but we still have many other sports. I feel as if the CAA would be the best bet for all sports at this time. I also understand the added travel time and cost associated with the move, it will be well worth it in  the long run if SB ever wants to jump up to a power conference, If they ever do..  This university needs to be more recognized and respected on the national landscape. The AE just doesnt cut it anymore for us.  Heck!! Hofstra only 25 miles west of SB and they are in the CAA!

Dont be surprised in a year or two UA and SB makes the move into the CAA for all sports. Both schools appear to do things in tandem I noticed..

I don't see what's gained from moving from one one-bid league to another. It just makes it harder for us to get that single bid and get exposure. I'm not even sure the CAA is a stronger BBall conference than the AE at this point, but that's another discussion.

We get exposure by winning and winning against good programs. The CAA might be a stronger league, but being in the best one bid conference in the country does us no good. I almost think we might be better of going the other way and dominating the weaker conference. At least then were winning, making playoff/NCAA tournament appearances, and getting positive exposure.

We're heading into our fifth season in the CAA Football conference and have nothing to show for it. Had we remained in the Big South, we'd have continued to dominate the league, make playoff appearances, and maybe steal a game or two in the FCS playoffs despite our horrid offense. Keep in mind that since we've left the Big South, both Coastal Carolina and Liberty, teams we frequently laid the beat down on have gone FBS.

Granted, football is a different beast than basketball (FCS at large bids) and I remain a fan of the CAA Football move, but it's something to think about. Is being 2nd place in a stronger league and never making the tournament superior to winning the weaker league and getting your name out there so people can see you play? It's something to think about. Maybe we should dominate the AE and position ourselves to make a big stride further down the road as opposed to taking baby steps now and potentially making it harder for us to move ahead. We've only been to the tournament once, but how many years has it been where we've only been a shot or two away from getting in?

Getting back to the game, ladies lax would almost certainly be in the Final Four were it not for the questionable NY State travel ban on North Carolina. It's why they were seeded 8th instead of 7th...because they couldn't travel to North Carolina. Navy beat UNC on Saturday and SBU is better than Navy, so there you have it.

I had no idea that was why we were seeded 8th instead of 7th. Is there a source on that or is it just conjecture? The travel ban I feel may come to bite us in the rear end at another time in the future in other sports though. Oh well. That's the price of taking a stand I guess.

NCAA committees look at SOS and other factors when time for seeding or invites into the playoffs. In Basketball for example, this is why you see a bunch of teams from at the power conference playing in the playoffs even though their conference records are bad..

Statesman reported it, but the rationale was widely discussed elsewhere. http://www.sbstatesman.com/2017/05/12/controversially-low-seeded-womens-lacrosse-poised-for-deep-ncaa-tournament-run/
