Coach M. already seemed to have an excellent team going into this season.  But, it looks like she may have been able to attract another excellent prospect:

I  just  read the announcement  and  this young lady seems like a great fit.  She has 3 years at  SBU so that's great and she is a local product.

I think that Coach McCombs and her staff should be congratulated re: their ability to attract what appear to be some really top-notch talent with smart and aggressive recruiting.  As a result of graduations and some transfers out, Coach M. had to to fill 5 slots for 2015-2016, and managed to do so with some great talent,  using high school, JUCO and transfer resources.  They really seem to be a good bunch:

-- LaurenWilliams (G)
-- Jerell Matthews (G)
-- Ogechi Anyagaliglio (F)
-- Anamaria Skaro (F)
-- Davion Wingate (G)

She is managing to carry that theme forward very effectively to fill, what appear to be at least 4 positions that will open for the 2016-2017 season.  So, far she has gotten 2 commitments from very impressive candidates:

-- Oksana Gouchie-Provencher (F)
-- Shawnkia McCallum (G)

I'm thinking that the Lady Seawolves are in excellent hands and the future looks bright.

ICYMI, Coach McCombs and her staff are continuing to do yoeman's work in their recruiting efforts.  As I indicated in my last posting, she has put together what should be an excellent team for this season, including 5 new excellent and credentialed (at least on paper) recruits.

That said, it was clear that she'd have to keep attracting great talent, as she is losing 4 seniors after this season to graduation, including Snow and Jenkins.  It appears that she is going to be well covered, as in addition to the two players I mentioned in my previous post, she now has commitments from two additional excellent gets, and the '15-'16 season hasn't even begun yet:

-- Kina Smith (F/C) out of Mott Haven (averages about 15 ppg)
-- Kyra Dixon (W) out of Georgia (Scout rating of 88)

Go Seawolves!!

The Lady Seawolves showed some inexperience, jitters and tentativeness last night, but managed to gut out a tough win against Iona (and their two pre-season all-conference players) in their first game of the season.  I think they have the stuff to make it a great season, and will iron out the kinks as the season goes forward.  The best news is that three freshman played ample minutes and all of them looked super talented!!

What the heck happened to Ogechi Anyagaligbo???  I noticed that she's no longer listed on the WBB roster!!  I hope she didn't leave the team.  She was AE Rookie of the Year last season, and looked like she would continue to get better.  I expected she would be the cornerstone of a very good team this year.

Gold.. Could you blame her??... Student athletes want to win and play in the NCAA tournaments.. I've been saying this for about 5 years now. The time for SB to move up into a respectable conference is now and past due. We will never attract top players out of high school if we continue to stay in the AE for most sports. Even though SB ranks in the top 100 in academics, student athletes want the recognition of a higher conference with hopes of going pro some day. That's just the way it is and there's no denying it. The CAA is good, but i think we should be in the MAC for all sports. That would be a a huge driver to keep local and attract national athletes who want to play at SB.. Until this happens expect more of what Ogechi did to happen... I am very surprised Warney didn't transfer after his Freshman year. Glad he didn't though!!!!!

How many teams from the CAA and the MAC made the NCAA basketball tournament?
