2014-2015 SBU women's Basketball
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:20:30 am »
Not sure what this indicates, but I've seen two new job postings.  One is for an assistant coach for Women's BB.  The other is for the Women's BB Coordinator of Operations.  Both these postings were opened 5/30 and applications close on 6/13.  That's pretty fast, it would seem.  Also, wouldn't you expect that the new HC would likely provide some candidates that he/she would want?

Here are a couple of theories:

--1) Todd Mitmesser got the HC job, and these new postings are merely window dressing due to NYS labor laws, which make them obligatory.  No rub against Mitmesser, but somehow I thought this scenario would be unlikely, as I was guessing that SBU would be trying to attract a higher profile HC from a major program.

--2) Since the HC posting submittals were deadlined at an early May timeframe, and we've not heard any word on the results of the search/applications, another candidate is being highly considered, but is waiting to get the appropriate audience with the new AD.

Any thoughts?

Our new  head coach for the Ladies I would consider a pedigree- Auburn, Northwestern and Pitt is a pretty decent  background.  Our AD  has pulled no punches on this one.  I'm optimistic our Ladies  will move forward under her direction.

There are 29,413,039 corporations in America; but only one Chairman of the Board.

I see that Coach McCombs has hired two new staff members (including Assistant coach).  They, as she, both have histories with big-time programs, and should help continue building a winning tradition for the Lady Seawolves.  This was to be expected, of course, as the new HC wants to build her own management team.

But, we should not forget that Todd Mitmesser (Ass't. Coach for O'Boyle) certainly must have played an important role in getting the team to the point it was last season.  He is no longer listed on the coaching roster.  I couldn't find any info on where he's ending up, but I sure hope he lands on his feet.  I understand that his wife has a position locally, so I imagine it's not easy for him to uproot again.  Anyway, thanks Todd, and all the best to you and your family.

The Women's BB schedule has been released.  Looks like they've been able to attract at least a couple more home games than the men for the OOC schedule.  In any event, it looks like quite a competitive and interesting schedule--just like the men's.  Should be quite a season!!

The WBB season has not even yet begun, and Coach McCombs has already solidified top-notch talent and signed great talent for next year and beyond!!  Great to see, and speaks volumes about the future direction of the program.  Watch out UCONN, the Lady Seawolves are on the prowl!!!

I was at the WBB season opener. Not the same turnout as the guys but still, not that bad. They apparently have doubled last year's season ticket sales for the ladies. I have no idea how good St. Peter's is, but Stony Brook played well. I think the team is in good hands with Coach McCombs

It's always easy for us on this board to get so wrapped up in the excitement this year with the MBB team (and I certainly consider myself one of the wrapees), that we sometimes forget the terrific job the Lady Seawolves are doing.  So, this is a SO to them on the great win over Columbia.  They have a lot of talent on the team (including some of the younger players), and they're going to be great to watch all season!!  So, let's get some support for them here and show them we're with them against Bradley!!

Hopefully, the SBU men will learn from the Lady Seawolves how to win the close ones.  The women beat Lafayette yesterday in the final seconds by 2 points, and held them scoreless for about the last 4 and a half minutes of the game!!  GO SEAWOLVES!!!

It's a real shame that Sabre Proctor's stellar BB career at SBU had to come to a close the way it did last night.  If Sabre had been able to play in the second half, there's no question that the Seawolves would be in the semifinals.  UMBC hasn't got a prayer against Albany!!
