Seems like the national media is split between SB and Vermont for their pre-season pick in the AE.  I'm surprised that so many are picking SB:

I was just about to post those Quick. Ryan Restivo also watched practice and tweeted about the team. Most interesting tweet to me was that Restivo's seemed impressed with McGrew.

All of his tweets were pretty revealing.  Scott King playing as a big 3 at times probably because they see McGrew playing as a back-up 4, possibly starting 3 guards, and Walker getting minutes at the 3 caught my eye.

Should be a lot closer now without Tommy, but we picked the Seawolves #1 over Vermont:

Any additions that we left out would be much appreciated!

Jaden,
Thanks for all the work you guys put into your site, it's a great read!  I see Vermont and Stony Brook in the final, with the home team winning.  After that, it's Albany, Hartford, UMBC, Binghamton, New Hampshire, Maine and UM-Lowell.

As for Stony Brook, I have to think Anthony Mayo remains very important as a shot-blocker off the bench behind Warney, possibly playing alongside him at times (especially if Pikiell wants to play Coley, Jackson and Puriefoy together).

PG Paul Jorgensen has verballed to GW

Rats!!!  I was really hoping that the Seawolves were going to reel him in--even though, with all the offers he was getting, I'm not surprised that they didn't.  But, in light  of the significant interest he was attracting I find it curious that he ended up with George Washington.  Do any of you agree that it seems like an odd choice given his options?

Jorgensen just had a Q&A posted on NJHoops where he refuted some of the recruiting info that has been put out there.  Here's a summary:

-  He had offers from about 25 schools, but his finalists were GW, Harvard, Lehigh, Fairfield and Quinnipiac (Vermont was his first offer).  He really liked the city feel of GW, and to me it appears that he made an intelligent choice as far as level/league chosen.  GW has a very good returning Soph. PG, so he is probably coming in at a good time, with 2 years to start.

Definetely agree with sbufan ^

hopefully we can get him

more about him here: http://delcohssports.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/boys-basketball-from-glasgow-to-chester-tyrell-sturdivant-making-a-big-impact/

Couple things on this young man:  I have a friend who knows his Mother, and says that the family is very impressive, and focused first and foremost on the academic piece.  He is a very good student, which fits into that, and with Degnan popping for Fairfield over the weekend, that option for him is off the table.  LIU has multiple recent NCAA tournament visits, but I have to think you at least have a good chance with him.  I was told that they are very seriously interested in SB, for whatever that's worth.....Certainly, Florida Atlantic offers great weather, but the family would not be able to drive to his games.  You should have a much better idea after the visit, no?

All sounds great. Do you know anything about his game or how he might fit in at Stony Brook?

Don't know anything other than what I have read/been told, which is he's a good prospect, intelligent kid, probably further along defensively, like most young bigs.  Seems that he is a fairly good shooter out to 15-17 feet, and is a shot-blocker rebounder.  I do know a bit about his AAU program, which is one of the better ones down here, with mostly D1 players.  He is able to transition from offense to defense fairly quickly, as they run a lot.  He's also finishing high school at Chester (PA) HS, and I know that program well.  They run, and run, and run some more, so he will definitely be doing a lot of running/pressing/trapping this high school season.....Delaware is closer for his family, and he was in high school down in Delaware up until this coming year.

Thanks for posting the preview I put up earlier this morning. Just to clarify:

Ray McCallum of Detroit was actually drafted by the Kings and signed a three-year deal with Sacramento. Since Detroit's website never updated the roster, I was thrown off until a Detroit message board picked this piece up and pointed it out. It has since been updated...good news is that it's a more winnable game for Stony Brook.

I look forward to posting more pieces here as the season goes on, and hope to enjoy another great year ahead with all of you.

Go Seawolves!

Jaden,

You guys do a great job on your web site, thanks for all the great info.  What are your thoughts on the America East race this year?

Really interested to see what he has added to his game this coming season.  Typically, players make the biggest jump in their Soph year after getting a taste of the college game and what it takes to be successful.  I'd expect him to have added more lost post moves, and in a perfect world, perhaps even a face-up jumper from 15 feet or so.....the Soph class with Warney, Puriefoy and King (don't know yet about McGrew) has a ton of promise.

Absolutely agree Quickdraw. I'm hoping Walker and Mitchell, despite redshirting, were also able to learn and mature last year.

I know there is a big hole to fill with Brenton graduating, but I still think this years team could be better than last year. Can't wait for November

The Brenton "hole" is the big question, obviously.  Who plays the #3 position?  Does he go with 3 guards, or does he start Walker or Burnett (doubt they start one of the true Frosh), or does he go big and start both McAlister and King?  Lot of options from where I sit, but he plays at least 10 every game anyway so it's probably not as important as who finishes the games.

Warney makes the top 10 player in the country to return .....

Schedules starting to come out with most schools; here in Philly most of the Big 5 schools have given out hints if not actual non-conference schedules.  Yesterday I saw that you play in the 2k Sports Classic in Detroit for 3 games

http://nycbuckets.com/non-conference-schedule-tracker/

From this listing (http://udtitanbasketball.freeforums.net/thread/129), it appears that the games are November 22-24.  The first rounds of this tournament are at host schools, so you should be playing Indiana Nov. 14-17 (one of those dates)......on an unrelated note, I imagine that Warney will be even more of a beast this season.  I would expect his FT% to improve, and perhaps more diversity down in the low post.

44
I don't know if it's true, but I saw a listing of your non-conference schedule on the AE board.  If confirmed, that is an extremely ambitious schedule.  They have you playing VCU, Indiana, LaSalle, Canisius, Loyola (MD), Columbia, Detroit, Toledo and Fla. Atlantic on the road, and Northeastern, Marist, St. Francis (NY), Cornell, FDU and some D3 at home.  I think that's too many non-conf. games, so perhaps some of them are in some type of exempt tournament, which I believe you can play in every few years.  I would assume the schedule will come out this month, but if this is true you should be more than ready for the league season.......

Any info on him ?

Doubt very seriously if you have a chance to get him; his recruitment has been blowing up, and whether justified or not, he seems destined for the hi-mid level at least.  He's raw but talented, and I think you need more of a true "big" in this class.  Here's some info on him:

I did see that you offered (per verbal commits) a 6'9' big from Michigan, Deyonta Davis, but he's a '15 kid:
