LOVE these assistant coach hires- this puts a strong Long Island stamp on this team with all three having been born and raised on Long Island. Brazel in particular will be such a huge hire- in speaking to some local LI folks, I actually met one who liked Brazel so much that he felt he would have been a good HC candidate!

This is the right way to build this team back up.

Well said- Danowski was my first choice but I certainly can't argue with this hire.

Any of these names were better than Nagle. Gilardi should be a very good fit. His offense at Towson was really good. I think the other thing that cannot be understated is that Gilardi should be able to open up a pipeline as well to some players from Maryland. His main job will be to keep good Long Island players home. Obviously we will still lose some of the top talent but there are enough good players here to make it work.

Quote
A skilled recruiter touted for player development, Gilardi said he’s already made calls to current players. The team’s top eight scorers return, so Gilardi has talent with which to work. “We’re attacking this from Day 1 the right way and getting those guys involved.”

Per VC, Jules Moor is transferring to Texas State, close to home, so he's staying D1.  I'm assuming that he will need to sit out 1 year.  Texas State finished 2nd in the Sun Belt last year.

I do believe, however, that he's a walk-on.

WOW!!!! This is what happens when you change the regime!! I feel bad for this team with many years of rebuilding ahead!!

I have no idea what you are talking about- many years of rebuilding?

We have as much talent in the current locker room as we have had in my opinion since Warney left.

I don't get your doom and gloom. Moor was a solid player but nothing irreplaceable.

Danowski would be a homerun hire. There is nothing about him that is unknown.

He grew up on Long Island and has been coaching at an elite institution for years.

Stony Brook should have no problem recruiting a very good candidate. This is a top-flight public institution that still has better days ahead. I liked Dr. Stanley but he had his faults for sure. I want a president that will continue growing both sides of campus- the medical school still has tremendous potential and leadership at the top will help it grow even further. I think everybody in positions of power realize that athletics will remain very important and I expect a president to arrive that shares that passion.

If it’s so difficult to field a nationally competitive team as a northeastern school (which may be the case), then serious consideration should be given to dropping baseball like New Hampshire did. If the baseball program is losing money, which I assume it is, it’s an overall negative for the school. SBU is not attracting good students and faculty because of its baseball program (2012 notwithstanding). The money could be better used elsewhere.

Couldn't disagree more- baseball has become one of the cornerstone sports at Stony Brook. Aside from UConn, there probably isn't a better D1 baseball team in the northeast in recent years. There are a number of MLB players coming from Stony Brook and several on the way as well. This is a pretty legitimate program. We shouldn't overreact to losing to ASU and LSU in this regional- those are two really good teams.

Anyway its a moot point because nobody in the administration thinks that way.

Our men's lacrosse coaching search is going extremely well. The number of exceptional coaches who are interested in our job has exceeded my expectations. We're going to land an excellent coach so please remain patient. I'm definitely feeling urgency to get this done, but will exercise diligence to get it right. Great times are ahead!

I know his job is to hype this up but this has me excited.

Baseball one win away from securing a spot in the NCAA tournament!

The team is clutch- just need to beat Binghamton once. We will be fairly well rested. This is a really solid team top to bottom.

The NCAA has been more forgiving with those waivers- he did play for LuHi so maybe they can make an argument about him being closer to his old coaches? Anyway I have penciled him in for 2020.

Regarding those UVM transfers, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Giddens was super highly touted out of high school but has not done much at the college level. He's physically gifted but there's a reason he's coming to the America East- a nice get for them though that will help them absorb the loss of Lamb.

I think the guys we have building give us the core of a very good team for the next two years. 2020 will be hopefully the year where we are America East favorites again.

Policelli is a huge get. He will have another year to bulk up which is great. Creating a good Lu-Hi connection will pay dividends in the future. With Stephenson-Moore and Policelli we will have 2 Lu-Hi graduates on our roster.

I like Heilbron calling out these other programs. There are MORE than enough local programs that can make an exciting OOC slate for all of us.

In that tweet, Shawn specifically mentions St. John's which is a dumpster fire of a program right now. They should be afraid of losing to us.

I mean locally there are a ton of DI programs in driving distance. It's a shame if a lot of them are turning us down

Just was browing VC and saw that Mouhamadou Gueye committed to SBU. Staten Island native, JuCo at Monroe College.

6'10, 205 lbs. Looks tall but lanky- can never have too many big guys. If you hit on one of them you're in good shape.

FYI despite coaching change, Tyler Stephenson-Moore remains committed

Smart committing to the UNIVERSITY, and not just the coach. Good.

Agree, but I think Moore is another one of Weber's recruits.
Correct, Moore is another one of Weber’s guys. Weber is the only one from the former staff that had a LUHI connection. LUHI coaches deal with The Hoop Group Organization. You can connect the dots from there.

Long is a valuable loss. Showed some big flashes towards the end of the year.  Was interested in seeing his development over the summer.

Though I can say, We are in the mix for some Grad Transfers from leagues higher than us.
Immediate impact + Experience hasn’t hurt anyone (I think lol)

If we can become a destination for grad transfers (instead of a source) that would be very intriguing.

Really happy that we kept Weber- maintaining a local recruiting network here in NY is crucial. It's also helpful that Geno's son is the coach at Harborfields which may come in very helpful.

Michael Wilson is a beast- kid is playing himself into consideration for a high draft pick hopefully. This team has incredible depth

Team is hitting its groove.
