I didn't mean to imply you were attacking the coaching staff. Over on the AE board posters are always so quick to criticize the staff but never take a step back and look at how successful they've been in other areas and on the whole.

"I also want to stick up for the Stony Brook coaching staff. They seem to take a lot of heat and almost all of it seems unfounded to me. First off, it's remarkable how much the staff has gotten out of their players looking back at the last several seasons and looking at where the players were coming into the program. El Amin went from the third leading scoring on a division 2 JUCO team to America East player of the year. Al Rapier, despite some unwarranted message board hype, only averaged 6 boards and 5 pts a game as a JUCO and now is one of the most dynamic bigs in the America East. The leap in Coley's game over the last year has been astronomical. I don't think any team in the conference has done a better job developing talent over the last four or five years. Secondly, I've never really questioned Pikiell's in game coaching, and actually think he seems to do very well with x's and o's coming out of time outs and such."

I just copied and pasted this from the Bench Players thread because it offers a good point about the 2012 recruiting class. The Stony Brook coaching staff has, imo, worked very well developing the players that have come into the program, so it'll be interesting to see how this 2012 recruiting class, whom Pikiell said were the staff's top targets at their positions and is considered one of if not the best class in AE, develops.

I was hoping we would bring in transfers for the interior defensive line and cornerback to cover the losses of Kirk, Nelson, Hutchins, and Porter. I was also hoping we would have a chance at a high profile RB transfer like Maryland's DJ Adams to sure up the loss of Jackolski, but I'm very comfortable with a backfield of Maysonet and Cruz.

The last couple of years Stony Brook would have announced the signing of 6-8 mid year transfers by now. Priore had been bringing in a lot of juco's to add immediate depth to the team, and seeing as we return 34 players from our two deep and have 20+ redshirts available next fall, we no longer need that immediate influx of depth, but it is still curious. Do you guys think we haven't signed any mid year transfers, or has the department just not put out a press release yet about the signings?

I don't have enough knowledge of Stony Brook's personal or basketball in general to give an answer. What I will say is that last season, when things were going wrong, the message boards were busting Pikiell's chops for rotating guys in out to much in a  similar fashion as you're suggesting claiming that the players needed to get comfortable with one another on the court. I'll admit that I shared that belief last season, and I was wrong because, as you pointed out, that lead to Pikiell finding Hayes and salvaging the season with solid run. I definitely like that Stony Brook plays 10 guys every night. We have the best depth and defense in the conference and I think the 10 man rotation is a big part of that-guys get better with minutes and fresh legs close out on shooters better and have a quicker first step. Also, guys like McAllister and Bracey both have the talent to be very good at this level, but they're only going to better with playing time. They need to adjust to speed of the game and get comfortable on the court.

I also want to stick up for the Stony Brook coaching staff. They seem to take a lot of heat and almost all of it seems unfounded to me. First off, it's remarkable how much the staff has gotten out of their players looking back at the last several seasons and looking at where the players were coming into the program. He ran a 4.3 going into his senior year at UConn recruiting camp (they offered him a scholarship there). He's put on 30 lbs since then, he's an honest 200 lbs now, so I'm not sure how that's affected his 40. Regardless, he's a pretty incredible athlete. I think he's got a similar build/athleticism to Welker. I'm sure he was a lot of work to do as far as route running and his hands are concerned, but he could potentially be a solid slot/third down back. He's also won't turn 22 until september. I don't know if that helps or hurts him, but it's shocking how good he has been both in high school and college considering how young he has been at both stages.

Jackolski named to CSN Fabulous Fifty FCS All-America Team

http://www.goseawolves.org/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/010912aaa.html

It's pretty unbelievable that Jackolski is 16 in FCS history for all purpose yards considering he spent his sophomore year at Hofstra on the defensive side of the ball. I really hope he gets a chance in the NFL. I'm confident that he could contribute if he finds the right the fit, something like the Patriots who manage to use undersized guys like Welker and Woodhead.

Just saw this and think it's pretty sweet.

I think Norrell is going to have a huge year for us next fall. You could tell he was getting better every week throughout the season after missing all of camp with an injury. Give him an extra year in our system and on our strength and conditioning program and I think he will be special.

BU has played the toughest schedule in the AE to this point and they have the cachet of having had good teams in the past, but the numbers show they are a mediocre team this year. Sagarin has them at #232 out of 345 teams. For Stony Brook to demonstrate consistency and be a truly good team, they need to beat mediocre teams like BU on the road. Beating up on UMBC one game and losing to BU the next won't cut it. Plus, they should have the added "revenge" factor working for them.

The problem with using the computer models is they don't account for the all the games Irving missed with a concussion. Don't get me wrong, BU is a fairly mediocre team, but they're better than the computer models suggest. I think we will win though. We should outrebound them by a bunch and we won't give Partin many open looks.

I love Resner's game. He really gets after it when he gets in the game. I'm hoping that he can work his way into the rotation the next two years.

I think our bigs will give plummer fits, and he'll find himself in foul trouble early. We should win this game fairly easy

From a statistical level - far from it

From an importance to team level - no player is as integral to the success of a basketball program as Tommy Brenton. If we take the AEC and go to the Dance - Tommy should be the one handed the trophy.

I agree. He might not have first team all conference stats, but there's so no way there are five guys more valuable on the court than Brenton.
