Challen Rogers, M, Stony Brook
Why do you have to be from Western Canada, Challen Rogers? Why? Why are you the Jesse King of this draft? It’s so upsetting to know that only one team is going to take you and they already have a ton of Canadians! You can play D! You can create your shot! You’re tough and get under your opponents skin! Why can’t I watch you play in MLL every game this season? Every team could use you! It’s so frustrating. Can the league get an airline sponsorship and get some of these Western Canucks on rosters? Anyone have a rich uncle? It’s driving me mad! Can we talk about someone else please? Fare thee well, sweet, angry and promising Canadian Prince. -KD

Brody Eastwood, A, Stony Brook
The first thing you need to know about Brody Eastwood is that he scored 62 goals on 97 shots last season. Those numbers are already borderline nonsensical on their own, but how about some perspective to go with them? Eastwood’s 64% shooting (his average over three seasons is 61%) was the best in the nation; the second place guy, Army’s Connor Cook, shot 49%. Not impressive enough? How about this: Eastwood’s 62 goals were second most in the nation. The leading goal-scorer, Albany’s Connor fields, scored four more goals by taking 65 more shots. The man makes Hawkeye look like Hans Moleman, but based on discussions with MLL coaches, it may not be enough for non-Outlaws to pull the trigger. Why? You guessed it; he’s a box star from Victoria, B.C. Assuming he heads home after graduation, arranging that travel on a regular basis is an awful lot to ask of an East Coast franchise (not to mention the NLL conflict potentially looming in his future). Granted it varies day to day, but last I made it up, the conversion rate is something like one goal American equals about 2.3 goals Western Canadian; it’s not fair to poor Brody, but to a GM with severely limited resources, the 25-goal guy from the next town over sounds like the much better play. -CR

Team on top: Many experts like Albany to capture its fourth straight America East regular-season and tournament championships, but Stony Brook might stand in the way. The Seawolves return eight starters from last season’s team that went 5-1 in the conference. The offense will miss graduate Mike Rooney (48 goals and 63 assists), but does welcome back five starters including its entire midfield of seniors Challen Rogers (30 G, 23 A) and Chris Hughes (17 G, 14 A) and junior Alex Corpolongo (23 G, 6 A). Stony Brook last qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2012.

he shows that he can play in the crease and on the wing, off ball, on the breaks, dodges from x, etc.  Both hands too, at least shooting.  Looks like a natural inside finisher and i wouldnt be surprised if we used him more off ball than carrying.  has the discipline to bounce the ball overhand.  shares the ball from under the GLE.  he has a lot of the tools of an attacker- quick feet, off ball movement, smooth change of hands, inside shooter, unselfish.

MP went 12-5 last year.  i think the year before they won the suffolk title.  i think his brother is a sophomore at marist and had a pretty successful HS career at MP.  same HS as jeff reh.

I am often asked about the progress of our fundraising initiatives so wanted to provide an update. The highest priority for our department is to raise $5,000,000 in order to match the lead gift provided by Glenn and Eva Dubin for the construction of a new Indoor Training Center. To date, we have received more than $200,000 in cash and commitments toward the match. While there is always a sense of urgency with any fundraising initiative, it is important to note that since we announced the Dubin Challenge in October, our staff has spent the past months educating our supporters about the importance of this project. I encourage everyone to be a part of this project by making a contribution at https://alumniandfriends.stonybrook.edu/main-site/external/giving-to-stony-brook-dubin-challenge. It is true that every gift matters so I am exceedingly grateful for your support!
