great postgame interview from Geno. Good stuff.

he said a concept that i've been proposing... "we got hot at the right time".

its somewhat better to win 10 games and get hot in march, than it is to win 23 and lose to a team you already beat .  our history proves that; we've done the latter too many times.  did the former once and it nearly worked.

Who knows at this point?  Way too early, but here are some random points from me:

- Yes, we need a bunch of guards to replace our trio, and I think our national exposure this post-season, will get us some opportunities in the portal for sure. And yes, we need to add a big man (a la Maidoh).  All things being equal, 2 guards and one big man is on my Christmas wish list;

- I think Fitz would be foolish to "move up".  Although his offensive skills clearly improved this year, his defensive and rebounding skills are mediocre at best.  Would he "move up" to play 5-10 minutes per game at a higher-level school?  Or stay at SBU, and get all the minutes he can handle?  I bet on the latter, but his stock has definitely gone up.  Does NIL benefit bench players at higher-level programs?  I have no idea;

- Unless the kid is really injured bad, and can't sit on the bench, I'm thinking that Muratori is gone.  Not be on the bench for this run?  Come on.  Maybe a career-ending injury.  Nothing from SBU on this, as usual.  Plus someone on this board (I forget who) talked to Heilbron about returnees (that's how we initially found out about an extra year for Fitz and Philip), and there was no mention of Muratori.  Too bad, because I really think he was a work in progress, worth developing at 7'3";

- I think Nahar definitely has talent from what we saw in 2022-23, and I would say that he will certainly be back, given his bench enthusiasm all season.  He can definitely shoot and we saw some rebounding ability when he played a bit last season.  The kid really needs to bulk up though in the off-season.  The CAA is a very physical league;

- TO currently has the keys to the PG spot, but is he pissed off that he was shut down for the most part this year due to AC being back?  Does he know that we'll be looking hard at the portal this off-season for some guards (prob a starting grad PG), and decide to go elsewhere?  All remains to be seen.  I hope he stays, because he will definitely find some minutes, and adds value IMO;

- Snoddy is a freekin' workhorse, and rebounder extraordinaire, and I could see him being a flight risk for sure.  However, he's a local kid (Melville), and that may certainly keep him home.  He seemed really comfortable here, and really seemed to enjoy himself IMO;

- In limited time, Frederick looks extremely athletic and fairly long, but he showed no offensive game in limited minutes (another Philip type).  I say he'll be kept and will be back;

- I was very unimpressed with Space (in very limited gar-bage time minutes).  Who knows if they'll keep him or not, or if they see something with him in practice to keep him around.  I found him to be slow and undersized, but what do I know;

- Jared Frey isn't going anywhere, and I doubt that they would cut his younger brother, for fear of pissing Jared off, so I surmise that both will be back;

Anyway, those are my early thoughts.  Still replaying those final 37 seconds in my head over and over again................

this week is now a selling point for recruits- even if they werent watching.

id also argue that losing so many seniors is also a selling point.  it opens up playing time, and patience isnt what it used to be.

good find accelerator- i agree.  i particularly thought this was insightful:

Quote
“[Charleston’s] a great program,” Ford said. “They deserved to win. The irony is, I thought we deserved to win too, but that’s just how it works… that’s a high-major operation they’ve got going.”

all scholarships are a one year promise; renewable at the discretion of the staff.  whether they make promises, well...

good newsday coverage.  we've found fertile transfers in the CT market, let's do it again.

personal story- because CBS kept showing TSM's dad.  i realized i know him, i used to work with him, we sat very close to each other.  great guy.  didnt put it together until a few hours ago.

in fact, one holiday he brought his two little kids up, must have been 2010, and i met them.  i realized around 8:40pm tonight that one of them was our star, TSM.

five years of bball and didnt even know. GO SB

Ideally, TSM has it at the end of regulation, but I'm also good with Clarke creating for himself or a teammate. He had gone on a little run late. Smith just made a nice play. Sure would have been nice to see what would have happened if a shot went up.

I hate to be negative. It was an incredible run and everybody should be applauded. One time, though, I would have liked to see an actual play run for somebody. Tonight there was no inside out, no cutting, nothing, for most of the game. There's a guy in a sweater who I'd pin that on. It just wasn't good. I have to think the guys were out on their feet at the end, but also, we have seen our offense completely stagnant before, a lot. We had nine assists on 29 makes, and I'm guessing most of those were in transition. We made some TOUGH SHOTS to keep us in it; otherwise, ouch, it could've gotten ugly. Everything just felt really really difficult. A lot of one on one, a lot of standing around, a lot of contested looks. I thought Charleston did a good job freeing up Smith and others, and he was able to set his feet and shoot.

i think youre right.

our shooting, which wasnt great, bailed us out.

we lost boards by a lot.  and when you lose that- you cant afford to miss 20 low % shots.  not in an OT game.

hoping for an NIT/CBI/CIT or whatever it is these days.  Vermont plays UML for your information...

that call with 12 seconds left- coulda gone either way.  we got it, but really couldve gone to CoC.

OT, as if we needed any more minutes this week!

44
well clarkie showed up at the right time!

this is one of those nights where a different player takes over every few minutes.  the true mark of a great team.

45
plenty of time left and we've been close all game if not up.  only downside right now is sabry with 3 PFs.  manageable.

doubling fitz now, they got the message.
