Hats  off to a few players especially  Liotine who per Newsday is a walk on no scholarship player.  Just have to keep in mind that Howard was not a power and not much worse of than us.
Howard loses games by an average of 50 points per game this season and we could barely muster 14 points....That's hideous.. I felt like i was watching a JV game. Howard players are very small and unskilled. .We could lose the next 2 games...Albany beat Delaware and gave Richmond a run for their money. Rhode Island almost beat UNH this year.

Our team is clearly thinking about Winter Recess, they are done for the year. You could see it on the sideline.. It was nice to finally see Josh Valentine on Defense in the 4th Q.He was being double teamed and i think he is going to be a beast next year..

so SBU is going to have to buy out two years of P's salary if they want to can him after this season?  wow, that's depressing.
I was told SH is very, very unhappy with this season and has the ability to buy his two years out!

I don't blame anyone for calling for Coach Priore's head as we continue to flounder in 2015 however someone brought it up earlier that trying to be competitive with long Island Football Players just won't work at this level especially in the CAA. When the season began SBU was picked to finish 9th so there shouldn't be any surprise where we are at this time. The concern is are the younger players developing for next year's team or will we continue to flounder. I believe between Freshman, Redshirt Freshman and Sophomores make up about 65 to 70 players on the current roster. I believe that win or lose joey Carbone is your QB for the rest of the season.
According to my sources there are 4 commitments for 2016; Anthony Catapano OL Carey HS, Ben Holmes QB Nassau Community College, Tariq Gordon 6'5 230 DE Nazareth HS (Brooklyn) and Infinite Tucker 6'4 200 WR/RB/Safety Huntington HS (Track Star).
I believe that at the end of the season the AD and Coach will sit down and determine if the program is on the right path if it's not assistants my be changed however isn't Coach P signed through 2018

I actually forgot about Priore contract extension from Donna Woodruff. She sneaked that in. Oh Lord, help us..We are stuck with this coaching staff for 2 more years. 2 more seasons of dismal coaching and losing records, there will be more visiting fans sitting in the bleachers instead of SB fans..

SBU Football / Re: SBU VS Elon
« on: October 31, 2015, 10:02:21 pm »
I'm pretty sure that today was the worst game of SBU football I have ever seen in my 15 years of watching.

We botched the end of the first half by wasting a ton of time before calling a timeout after stopping them on third down.  Either because Chuck didn't realize the clock was running, or he didn't want to run a 2 minute drill.  As a result, 30 seconds  ran off the clock before he called a timeout (so we lost the time AND the timeout, which was pretty much the dumbest option available).

We botched the end of the 4Q.  Down 14, 5 minutes to go, and we still kept trying to establish the run.  The only passes we threw were within 7 yds of the line of scrimmage.

Chuck was on the sidelines, and for most of the game there were no players within 10 yards of him.  During timeouts, the coordinators spoke with the players, while he did virtually no communicating.  That is a REALLY bad sign that the team and the coach are basically done with each other.

The play-calling came from the sidelines (coordinators, not Chuck), with the coaches making sight-adjustments on each play.  The problem was that Elon didn't disguise ANYTHING (in fairness, they didn't need to).  I don't know what adjustments or reads they were making, since each play Elon ran a basic 4-3 defense with DB's all within 10 yds of the LOS.  We'd go to the line, the coaches would then check to one of three running plays (none of which were designed to stretch outside the TE), we'd get stopped, and the process would repeat.

There were a ton of dropped passes, and there was zero running game.  I don't know if ANY quarterback would be able to succeed in those circumstances.  He also made things worse by missing some reads and missing some throws.  Two of the interceptions were on the WR's (one was a drop that turned into a pick, one the WR just gave up on his route and gifted it to the DB).  One was a great catch by a DB, and one was entirely on Carbone.  Overall it was a poor game all around.

The star of the game for me?  One of SBU's athletic trainers.  Beverette banged up his ankle, and she got it taped up really nicely, and pretty quickly.

I'm intrigued to see what happens with attendance the next two games.  It was pretty bad today, and I wouldn't be shocked if it gets worse.  There couldn't have been more than 25 students at the game, and the rest of the stands were pretty empty.

Realistically, we could end up 2-9 on the season.  Maybe we can get Jim Gush to come back to SBU?  He's at Baylor now...
I didnt want to say it on the board but a few already knew it. I said we were going to lose this game. The team have given up on coach P. They abandoned ship and the Captain lost all control of his crew.. I honestly want us to lose out so the decision by our AD is easy. Coach P should and most likely will be fired after this season, unless SB doesn't have the $ to buy out his remaining contract. Thanks to Jim Fiore!!!

I know some of you get frustrated with the SBU Program however they are going in the right direction as they currently have between freshmen and redshirt freshmen over 40 players plus a good sized sophomore class with the 2 commitments they have already there are at least 5 others I know of that should come on board by the end of December and they are pushing hard on many others. Also I expect at least another 12 Long Island players will be part of the 2016 class

Coach Priore is the right Coach for this program at this time and he may tweak his coaching staff but don't expect household changes. Joey Carbone is only a redshirt freshman however the staff believes he will develop into a solid QB. Ben Holmes is from upstate NY and I spoke to a reporter that covered him in HS and he expects him to be a big time FCS QB. Also expect SBU to bring in another QB recruit for next year.

SBU by the way is ranked 39th in the FCS the last time I looked

With all do respect Campi I strongly disagree with your assessment. I don't think coach P is the right coach for this program anymore. He did a great job moving us from Div3 to Div1 but now he stalled. I have no disrespect for the coach I just feel he has reached his max ability to take this program to the next level. What I mean by "next level" I mean deep into the playoffs and beyond. SB Football is not the only team with Freshman starting, many other teams are in the same position. It comes down to recruiting high talent Athletes out of high school and NOT kids who are a work in progress with high intentions they will improve down the road. Top Athletes want to play for a team with a respected head coach who they can look up to and not feel uncomfortable with and who has a track record of taking his team to multiple playoffs year after year..   I have been following SB football for many years and his style of football has not changed even though we moved a couple of times up in conference. It is my understanding and observation, Coach P has a history of taking total control of the offense and not allowing his coaches to make adjustment when needed. This is not acceptable, he needs to adjust and change on the dime when opposing teams figure out our game plan. Many fans i talk to feel the same way. I can go on and on but why bother. As of now I have faith with our new AD and think he will do the right thing with taking us to the next level. So far, he is living up to his expectations!

That is good news  but  I fear  he will share QB  duties with Carbone next year .  That seems to be the MO at present.
That will only happen if the current coaching staff is still here next season!

NYstateofmind. You summed it up perfectly.. I really do hope SH is doing a national search as we speak.. SB will have to open their wallets though if they want to bring in some higher level talent with a strong background in recruiting. I also hope that indoor workout facility gets up and running in a hurry. That will help with recruiting.

I don't understand why Josh Valentine is not being used on defense. He is a beast at 300 pounds plus, and he is in his second season.

DDMD.

Interesting why you only picked out certain stats and not others..

For instance, why you did not pick out the TWO MISSED INTS our boys should have caught and no doubt the first would have been a pick six and changed the game, or the missed INT by 46.
Interesting that you did not point out for the third game we could not KO the ball without it going out of bounds and allowing the opponent to have a great field position. Our average KO was 48.7 (are you kidding me) and Maine's was 59.

In football you are CONSTANTLY making adjustments the ENTIRE game and not just earlier in the game (because of course the D makes their adjustments) . The problem is our O is playing checkers and our opponents are playing chess, and as much a CB is a nice young man he cant lead the team and the O line just does not know how to block and gets pushed East and West on every play designed to go North and South.

Interesting that you used the GROSS Punting average opposed to the Net since that is what counts. No return is what matters and Inside the 20 and FCs is what its all about-so the difference was 5 yards not 15.That is why the Punter is assigned to the Defensive side of the team. In six games there has been a total of 5 yards returned on 38 punts.

Ochi and Thompson were a non factor with Ochi seeming to take the wrong move on just about every play.

What cost us this game was once again Points off of Turnovers 7-17 and our inability to move the ball downfield.

With that said, NYstateofmind, what do you suggest be done to fix all those issues you correctly mentioned. I think this board already knows what I would do!!

Jack Coan has much better picks then coming to a program that can't win....An athlete wants to be a 4 year starter; but they do not want to come to a program that is in decline.

After watching the game it's very clear  that there is serious issue with the way the offence is managed & plays & the defence keeps making real bad penalties on the field at keys times.

This comes down to mental preperation on both sides. There is no rythem with the O line & the QB;  i thinkk this is due to the current rotation of QB & the current spread blocking. You half to have the right players on the line; we are not getting to the secound blocks on the DB.

We might only get 1 more win this season; we had 3 more injuries yesterday.....not good

I am very concearned about the pogram & what we will have on the field next year; what is currently in place is not working. We have 3 good stud defensive athletes on the field this year & I dont see who going to replace them next year.

As they would say the building is buring & its going to burn to the ground if someone can't put out the flames....

It''s time for a major pow wow....
Maybe do Like i did and someone else on this Forum did.. Voice your concern to Heilbron and the Athletic Dept.. Tell them how you feel. There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing your concerns to a program you give to . I am not an Alumni but i am an Alumnus!

Jack Coan of Sayville was offered a scholarship by SB last spring. The problem is Miami offered the same day. Since then he has offers from BC , Michigan , and Maryland. He also has made a verbal to Notre Dame to play lacrosse. So it was SB who made the first offer.
I watched him play last night against Port Jefferson.  This kid is the real deal.  He has a rocket for an arm and is extremely accurate, and he runs like a Deer. I really like this kid and Stony Brook would be getting a gift of a life time if he excepts. I was also told, even though he has a verbal with ND for Lacrosse he really wants to play Football! !

This has to be one of the most anemic play calling in the history of football. Its a shame that P and Berhman just have no real idea of how to win at this stage..  Maybe he'll resign on his own, but I doubt it. Lets see what he'll say after the game.... "well Maine just outplayed us and we just have to put this behind us and get ready for.......

This is what I beLIeve.

I just sent Heilbron and SB Athletics a text voicing my concern.. I suggest all you guys do the same. The madness needs to stop.. As a devoted season ticket holder i am disgusted as hell

my my, we are passing and the O is still working.  gee whiz Coach P, SB football can survive without a run game.  10-3 at half

Coach P made his bread and butter running the ball his entire career with SB. Problem is we are not in div3 anymore and it's time to make a change in his play calling or it is time to move on with him!
