I haven't followed lacrosse closely over the last few years, but with Fields gone and Lerlan transferring, the AE title seems up for grabs for the first time in a long time.

Let's hope but itís unlikely. Nagel has a proven track record of 1 and done in the AE tournament. I'm sure Albany's backup FOGO is better than our non FOGO, and we don't have any defenders in the class of Nanticoke. Worst of all Nagel is still there. Expect more nothing. I'm sure we'll see our share of good players transferring from SB Nagel lax, it happens every year.

Solid team win with every facet improving from week before. Team has put themselves in a good position in AE by going 2 and 0 prior to Albany game. Playoffs look good, need to get to the #2 slot. Here is my 10 point plan for this week and to get 2 seed.
1) Take 1 week at a time
2) Enjoy this week, you are playing the #1 team in the country
3) Enjoy this week, you are playing the #1 team in the country. That has to be every player's dream when they are playing PAL or playing 6 games of travel ball over July 4th weekend in 100 degree heat. Go have fun
4) Let's be realistic, no one expects us to win. I do not want to win this game anyway, I want to beat them in the AE championship game. This game is all about getting better and learning how to beat them. Gain confidence. Make some saves, grab some ground balls, play some defense and score some goals. Connor Fields will get his, we need to stifle Tehoka-get in his head. Body him back, he seems immature to me. I think you can frustrate him. We cannot let others beat us. Need to win some faceoffs, show we have a chance. Not like last year's playoffs. Target has to be 16-10 ( I will even take 18-10) Here is logic, we can get 3 goals better on offense and defense by playoffs. That get's us to an even draw. This team has been improving. Rent Rocky 4....even Drago bleeds.
5) Send a message that we are the #2 team in the conference as predicted by Inside Lacrosse
6) Go have fun. Did I tell you that you are playing the #1 team in the NATION. I would run through a wall
7) Albany game will be good prep for St Johns and Princeton
8) 2 OOC games get us ready for Vermont who got crushed by Albany
9) 4-2 record in regular season seems likely with 2-0 start
10) Need to keep working and improving. Starting to like this team's Mojo

ps....this team is currently in first place

Good wins, good for the boys. Way to go girls. Your point "enjoy. . ." and "have fun", this does not exist on a Nagel team. Time for a new coach.

Congratulations, a win is a win, we needed it. Congratulations to the girls, still number 1, thanks for showing what is possible at SB. Nagle still has to go. Hope contracts and money does not get in the way.

Not to best timing for a hiring freeze...from Newsday

Updated March 1, 2018 6:19 PM
By Candice Ferrette and Scott Eidler

Stony Brook University will impose an indefinite hiring freeze effective immediately to address an ongoing structural budget deficit, officials announced Thursday morning.
The plan will impact nearly all positions at Long Islandís largest public research university that are funded by the state budget. The decision comes after several other austerity measures did not produce the needed savings, officials said.
SBU President Dr. Samuel L. Stanley Jr., in an exclusive interview with Newsday, said the university faces an $18 million shortfall in its total base funding due to contractual salary increases that were negotiated at the state level and are currently unfunded in the state budget. The freeze also will impact administrators, Stanley confirmed.

Go back to my earlier post about the school having financial problems.. Nagle isn't going anywhere for a while.. Even if SB doesn't win a single game this season..

How much time is left on Nagle current contract?

Transferring is now a big issue. You know half these kids are already planning next yearís exit. If they dump Nagle now some of the players may choose to stick it out. If they donít dump Nagle now, the players will figure theyíll keep Nagle (because they always do), so I got to plan my exit.  This of course will lead to an even worst team next year.

People. I am amazed how many disgruntled fans there are today talking about their dislike for Nagle and Gibson.. All I can offer is for each and everyone of you guys to go on Twitter and hit @shawnHeilbron up in a private message and display to him your dislike of the coaches and how SBLax is a laughing stock on long island..

If enough people put pressure on SH, he eventually will look hard into  replacement. Dont forget to throw in how you guys are considering not going to anymore Lax games and wont support the program unless something is done, in a hurry!!

Agreed!

last 4 years 27th,5th,5th,16th in the country in scoring. I believe coach Gibson was there for that.

And 0 in ncaa tournament appearances.

The information given on this OC could not be more ACCURATE.  Any player, parent of a player or fan at the game can see it.  He is the most unproductive 'Coach' (and I use that word loosely) in D1.  He antics yesterday were exceptionally ridiculous.  These Seawolves deserve much better.  It's time for him to GO

Gibson may be part of the problem but not the source. The source of the problem is NAGLE and staff. They all most go. Time to start over.

This season is lost. Albany has really taken the throne in northeast lacrosse and won't be relinquishing it anytime soon with the way they recruit and develop players.

Just have to hope the young players continue to develop. Stony Brook should be an elite program given where we draw talent from. I'm a guy who is trying to get into lacrosse so won't pretend to know the nuances of the game but it is incredibly painful to get smoked by Hofstra in any sport. I know the team is young but this was an awful outcome.

The mediocrity has got to stop. It's time for Heilbron to make his first major lacrosse move and find a coach that can develop talent and win games. The men's lacrosse program is lagging behind the other major sports at the university which should absolutely not be the case.

Heilbron should be on the phone trying to find our next coach ASAP.

I agree, but it is all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ right now and I dont think SB is in the financial position to hire and fire at will...

BIG, BIG, BIG shout out to SB girls #1 in the country. Nice job girls and Coach Spallina.
The numbers have been reported, they are public record. Something like Nagle $210k, Marr of Albany $145k, Spallina SB Girls $145k. SB should grab either one and give them a $100k rise. If we could get Ĺ the results of Albany or SB girls that would be a huge improvement . We know where Nagle lax is going, no question time for a change.

i keep telling people this and no one listens to me.  except you!  ;D

Agreed, SB has obstacles to recruiting, but others with the same limitations do much better on the same Island. Coach Sowell brought us to the ncaa semi-finals and continues to excel at Navy.  SB girls lax and Coach Spallina are constantly ranked and in the tournament.  Hofstra historically does better at a higher price school in a less desirable neighborhood. Adelphi, NYIT, Post are always ranked in the top 20 of D2 and win national championships. Nagelís track record is clear, itís not going to get better. Time for a change.

Not a big LAX fan by any means (trying to learn!) but the poor start for the team has me worried. I've been waiting for a season where they really establish themselves with Nagle and it isn't there yet which has me concerned. It's even more glaring given the tremendous success Spallina has had in such a short time.

Again, this is just coming from a casual fan who is growing more impatient in recent years.
This.
Thereís no reason SB shouldnít have success like Albany, or more given location and academics.

I agree Wolfie. Nagle has had ample time to take this program to the next level. Long Island is a breading ground for Lax stars. Just not in a SB men's uniform...

Looking forward to watching the game tonight on Big Ten Network. Newsday had the game 2 goals apart in 4th quarter before wheels fell off

I just looked at the 2017 All Long Island Lacrosse Teams:
3 going to Maryland
3 to Virginia
3 to Cornell
3 to Stony Brook
2 to Hopkins, Hofstra and Duke
rest of list is just 1 kid per school

I might be wrong but thats pretty good for SB. Need to see it on the field but the talent is getting recruited.

That's an impressive haul- gotta turn that recruiting success into production on the field.

Problem one is Nagel. Look at his track record. He made the NCAA tournament once some years ago, and that was with the remanence of Coash Sowellís team.  Coach Sowell has gone onto continued growth and success at Navy while SB and Nagel continue to rebuild. Second, Nagel does get some good recruits, but after a year or two of Nagel lax they transfer, which brings us back to problem one.
