SBU Football / Re: 12/2 - @ JMU 2pm (FCS 2nd Round)

FYI re seats for the JMU game.  I received the email this morning offering tickets through SBU ticket office.  The seats are $25 a piece and located in Section 8, which is corner of endzone on SBU side.  I went to JMU ticket office online and you can buy $15 general admission tickets which includes seating on most of the SBU side of field, including at the 50 yd line. You might have to sit among JMU students fans, but you will have a better view of the game for almost half the price. There also appear to be upper deck seats available on JMU side of field closer to midfield for $25 a piece.

If you think Coach P is calling the plays you are out to lunch. He turned the offensive play-calling reigns over to Coach Felus, who sits up in the booth doing the play calling. The no huddle 3 wr sets should be an obvious clue that things have changed as opposed to the 2-3 TE sets that were a staple of Coach Priore football in the past. I posted many of the 2017 stats last week. You should compare them to 2016 mentioned above. It is a night and day difference.
Maine’s defense played a very good game. They stuffed our run game. #10 was something like 10/34 passing for the game. If you were there you know his passing was erratic at times and also that his receivers dropped many balls.
The team plane left LI exceedingly late Fri evening due to mechanical problems. The team sat at the airport for 4+ hrs fri afternoon/evening. The team was out of sorts and it showed.
The thing I take away from this season is that this team is winning games that in the past few years they would lose. Instead of finding ways to lose, this yr they are finding ways to win. It has been a very special season. It is too bad you anti-Coach P guys have been unable to enjoy it. It has been a blast.

Ok your right the coaches dont want to win, they do this for their health. 9 - 2 doesnt lie. At least sound like u know what ur talking about. How bout all u haters get together during the playoff game, mix up some haterade and pass it around so you all get a taste and make sure you dont spill any on youselves. And the rest of us will enjoy a home playoff game. Go check out what WLax coach Joe Spallina tweeted. I think he would know what good coaching is.
Amen brother!

Here is a link to stats from the CAA website: http://static.caasports.com/custompages/stats/FB/2017/confonly.htm
SBU is 2nd in scoring offense; 1st in passing efficiency; 1st in 3rd down conversions; 2nd in Red Zone offense (scoring on 26 of 29 times in the red zone, 19 of them TDs!), 1st in KO return yardage, 2nd in rush defense, 3rd in total defense, 3rd in turnover margin, 1st in sacks given up.  Are there areas where the team can improve?  Sure there are.  But heck, the team has performed well in all three phases of the game. The boys deserve credit.  So do the coaches.

I have to say I was surprised by the ceremony that was done for the seniors on Saturday.  In past years each player, with his family, was announced as they walked onto the field where they were greeted by the AD and Coach P, congratulated & thanked by Coach P, and a formal picture was taken.  It was odd that Coach P (or any assistant for that matter) was not at all involved this year.

Game vs Maine, which will not be easy, probably is critical to ultimate seedings.  Cannot look past Maine.  This game is very very important. A win and some help hopefully avoids placement into the slot that goes to JMU in second round.

SBU Football / Re: Homecoming - UNH
« on: October 16, 2017, 12:32:46 pm »
The fact that UNH remains ranked is a joke.  Their FBS win is over winless 0-5 GA Southern.  They lost to Holy Cross - a 2 win FCS school. They also lost to SBU while we remain unranked (or ranked 26th depending on how you see it). UNH has yet to beat a team with greater than 2 wins thus far this season.
The boys have to just keep on rolling.  Cannot afford to wind up with same record as UNH or Nova at end of year - both are darlings of the FCS polls and when it comes to FCS playoff seeding. JMU, Richmond and Elon already appear headed for playoffs.  Can't count on CAA getting 6 spots.  And Delaware also is coming on strong.

A signature win. A team that struggles in second half comes from behind in second half to dominate a very good team. Excellent performance in all 3 phases of game.  And props to the big boys on the OL who are quietly having a very good season. Big game in Richmond in 2 wks.

I hope there is an administrator of this forum and that he/she removes SBUFootball and his baseless and petty post re sponsors, players and playing time from this site.  This forum ought not be used by a player's disgruntled parent to malign the program, the coaches, other players and their families with such baseless and nonsensical accusations. What a disgrace!

Hammer: Glad to see you recognize the improvement out of #10.  He is a different player this year. After watching the last two games, it feels like the offensive coordinator has taken his foot off the throttle too early in the second half. It’s like they expect #10 to revert to last season. I have seen enough of him this season to have confidence in his game. I wish the play caller would too and not shut down the passing game too early and rely on the defense.
The other issue of concern for me in the penalties, especially all the binehead 15-yarders the team takes.  Need to improve the discipline. Good teams dont play so undisciplined. The personal fouls need to stop. They are killers.

Congrats to #10! To go through what he went through last year in terms of production and be able to come back and perform at a higher level this year with confidence and enthusiasm is really impressive.  I am very happy for him.  I hope it continues.

SBU Football / Lift for Life - a good way to show your support
« on: May 03, 2017, 09:24:12 am »
Friday May 5, 2017 is the team's annual Lift for Life event, sponsored and run by the team's members who participate in the Stony Brook fooball chapter of Uplifting Athletes.  More information about the event and the organization, and a link to make a donation if you so choose, can be found here:
https://give.upliftingathletes.org/events/-/e124509

The boys will be working hard to help raise money to fight rare diseases in honor of Joey Feminella.  I am sure they would welcome charitable contributions to the cause as a show of support.
