SBU Other Sports / Re: Women's Lacrosse: Discussion/ News

Caroline McCombs just keeps raking in the talent for the women's BB team.  What a great recruiter she is!!  She deserves the 5-year contract extension she recently got--IN SPADES!

Here's the most recent and last recruit she got for this season (a senior transfer from Western Michigan).

https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2020/8/27/womens-basketball-womens-hoops-completes-incoming-class-signs-transfer-leighah-amori-wool.aspx

In addition, she now also has two commits for 2021:
-- F Liza Field (Couldn't find her info, but I think she's a good one)
-- PG Erin Turral https://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/preps/2019/04/10/all-big-bend-girls-basketball-lincolns-erin-turral-nfcs-caylan-jones-take-top-honors/3340125002/

No way do I see SBU football chartering a flight to take the entire team and staff to play FAU!!  Think about it--that means chartering a flight to take the entire team and staff to the epicenter of coronavirus madness in SOUTH FLORIDA of all places!!  If the whole controversy is over safety and health, that can't possibly make any sense.

One excellent recruit (3*) who hasn't appeared on the team roster is Raekwon Smith. He was reported as a commit to SBU previously.  Any idea what happened to him?

Also got a '21 commitment from Anthony Williams, a DE/OLB out of New Jersey. He had offers from Kent State, Wagner, Howard, Sacred Heart, Georgetown and LIU.

Another Mo??  We’ll need another nickname. Anyone remember Al Rapier, who was a JC transfer if I remember correctly?  He was a diamond in the rough who turned to be pretty good.

I recommend we go with Mo-G and Mo-D.

Here's a dandy to fill the Seawolves' last open scholarship slot JUCO SF Mo Diallo (Grew up in Harlem, like Garcia).
Just committed.

So we were his only D1 offer. On the surface, that’s not encouraging

Look a little closer, and I think you may find that the Seawolves stole one here.  Very quick, with a mean stutter step and unusually good eye for the assist.

The SBU website still lists everyone on the roster.  Does anyone have an updated one that reflects where we are today?  I've lost track big time.

I believe that this represents the latest:

According to Student Athlete Network (@StuAthNetwork) | Twitter and his own Twitter feed JUCO SF Leighton Elliott-Sewell, originally out of the UK has committed to Stony Brook.  Looks like a pretty aggressive wing not afraid to absorb contact on the drive.  Could be a nice piece of the puzzle going forward.

hard to keep up!

guards: 4man, mack, TPP, TSM, rodriguez
slash: gueye, kadisha, alleyne
bigs: christie, policelli
redshirt: greene, habwe

Some corrections: -- Habwe should not be a redshirt, and instead be considered a "big"
-- Jaden Sayles should be listed as a redshirt

Just a note re: Greene:  It looks like both he and Jaden Sayles may be red-shirted, preserving some excellent talent for next season.  This could actually be a wise move, as the team will be losing 7 players the next season, and could make good use of the next wave of players to have some experience with the team and coaching staff to ease the rebuild process for '21-'22.
