With the upcoming season only a month away I decided to start warming up for the Lax season. This year, Stony Brook will open up at Fairfield. After loosing great players to graduation, this will be an interesting year and I'm excited to see how Stony Brook competes and whether it will continue being a powerhouse in the America East.
Lets get the talk started.
Go Seawolves!
-
If they can pull a road win out here it could really make for a nice season but with pretty much a new everything at the start I can see some tough sleading early on for the Sea Wolves.
-
FU lost its main feeder and a LOT of middies on both sides of the ball. But i still think they are a good team- i picked them early on last year to turn some heads but they just couldnt get a rhythm going and string together a winning streak.
But then, when it counted, they upset LC and surprised Denver with a really great game late in the season. And thats the Denver team that made the F4.
Since there are so many question marks at SB, i couldnt make a prediction! We literally dont know who will faceoff, who will play in the cage, who will run attack, etc. These are big variables.
-
Do I go out on a limb and say StonyBrook wins this one in low scoring game -10-8.
-
Getting closer to the opener. I read this on LP:
spring practice is proving to be costly to the Stags, in addition to 6-8 injuries the team is dealing with, now 4 suspensions and 2 dismissals are going to have to be addressed and compensated for, certainly not the sort of distraction that a team needs as it prepares for the opener in 3 weeks!
Greenfield is off the roster, not sure who the injuries are or the other dismissals/suspensions. But Copelan claims to have great depth at a lot of positions and ill take his word. FU will likely lean on their keeper, Cipriano, that kid is good.
Anyone know about Tundo's injury? Or if Watson is still playing? Is Sav Greene redshirting?
As we get closer i might predict that SB has trouble at the X and in the cage, as those are both new starters and untested. Those might be FU's strengths at this point.
-
Just heard Greenfield is back on the FU roster- thats a boon for the Stags.
-
I can tell you that Greene is red-shirting, based on what he told me a few months ago and what other people are saying.
-
So here's what i heard so far- corrections welcome as always-
-Attack looks like Bellando, Tundo, Rooney, but guys will rotate in (maybe Adams, Belton, Watson)
-Andreassi is playing mid, offense liked the 22 circle, 2 man game
-I expect Bonanno and Campbell will be running mid as well, with Adams, Belton, Watson, Dahms, etc all mixed in
-I think Millican ran some SSDM
-Brady made some outrageous saves against PU
-Faceoffs im not sure at this point, but Laforet and Andreassi took some
-Great size on D with Jack Vav, Moeller, and The Judge
-Laforet/Miceli/LeVerne still running defensive midfield
Hope thats all accurate and holds over the fanatics until next saturday!

I'm optimistic we get a win at Fairfield. Really impressed with the ladies yesterday nice win all around and nice write up in the Newsday today.
-
Yes re. the ladies. They may eventually deserve their own discussion thread. The fact that they beat a good Colgate team starting six frosh and three sophs, AND with one of their best players benched, is impressive. The future looks VERY good. I wouldn't be surprised if both men's and women's teams finished this season in the Top 20.
-
Hey Chairman...I think you got Andreassi and Rooney mixed up. Andreassi started and played almost exclusively at attack during the scrimmages, only moving to mid to face off...Rooney was getting run with the 2nd mid line. Belton was the starter this past weekend with Campbell and Bonanno. I guess we will find out more Sat afternoon.
-
Thanks- yes sounds right.

I'm going to the opening home game but not the Fairfield game
-
Posted this on LP earlier- FU live stream ($8): of the game (i think) for $8: http://www.fairfieldstags.com/news/2012 ... 20328.aspx

10 mins from opening another great season!
will be covered on the chat and live stats at goSeawolves.org
-
Looks like much work to do yet. Losing face offs and turnovers killed us today.
-
dropped the game 13-10. SB was leading until the third quarter. Fairfield scored a series of goals early in the third and took the lead for good
-
We were dominated in at the faceoff. I didn't see the game but it's tough to win when you go 7 of 26 facing off.
-
Didn't look at that stat. I guess we really miss our Faceoff master Adam Rand.
-
That and the defense struggled a bit- both on off ball coverage, and failed clears. And then the boneheaded flags puts extra pressure on the D who had to play man down i think for 7 min of the game.
Looks like we are also missing Savaughn Greene and Bryan Reinert.
-
I'd like to say that this result doesn't worry me at all. I still think this team will be pretty good come conference play.
-
I agree sbufan...this year is all about Conf play. They will take their lumps early but if they can be clicking when the AE rolls around we will still have a shot at the NCAA's.
