I'll have to see if I can make it to that GW game. Nice pickup for the schedule.

In Heilbron's blog, he mentioned the following ...

In addition, we will play a same-season home-and-home (just as we did with Columbia in 2014-15) and welcome a CAA opponent (other than Hofstra) to Island Federal Credit Union Arena in 2018-19.

Not wild about the home and home, but it is what it is. I like getting a CAA team in here. We have some recent history with Northeastern. No matter who it is, it's a nice W for the program and conference if we can get it.

What I want to know is if those are the same schools. As in, is the same season home and home with the same CAA team we're brining to Island FCU other than Hofstra? They could be different schools. There are tons of great programs here in the northeast for basketball, so it really could be anybody.

We have done this before during the Pieckel era with Sacred Heart and I believe Marist one season .  His statement is a little confusing or is it a CAA Team or another team ?

I believe we are hosting a CAA team and also playing a same-season home-and-home with another team.

I can hope it's a regional "power" conference team like St. Johns or a Temple, but in reality, it's probably some random MAAC team like Fairfield or Iona, which personally does nothing for me.

St Johns or Temple  would be good games .

As Seawolf97 mentioned, we are locked into a game at Rhode Island on November 24. Another nice test for us in the early going.

Both Fairfield and Iona would clean your clock.

December 8 road game at Brown confirmed.

https://t.co/MES6Fb0CRg

Nothing on the home ledger to this point. You figure one more road game with the unnamed CAA opponent and another at Hofstra. That should just about close out the non-con road docket.

I would expect home games against Columbia and   LIU jus no dates as  of yet .

It’s out!

Home slate is OK with a couple of CAA opponents. I’m guessing we add an exhibition to get to 14 home games.

https://stonybrookathletics.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=333

Looks like the CAA home and home isn’t happening. MAAC instead with Quinnipiac here and there.

I'll be at the GW game, so that's nice, but we only play one power conference team in South Carolina. Last year we had Rutgers, Michigan State, Providence, and Maryland; we also had Uconn last year too. The Delaware game is nice, as is Northern Iowa even though that one is a road game. Overall, this schedule is nowhere near what it was last year and that's disappointing.

I ultimately wasn't wrong  about the home and home being vs some random MAAC team. Quinnipiac?? Only time I ever hear about them is come election time when they do their polling  :D :D

I think the schedule’s fine. Yeah, no top ten teams but the opponents are significant enough so that if we go into their place and win, that’s a big feather in our cap. Two A-10s, an SEC, two CAAs, a Missouri Valley and some northeast games ... not too shabby in my mind.

It could be worse, but none of these games are ones where if we win we'd get consideration for an at-large bid, something we ought to strive for. There's no tangible downside to scheduling tough since unless we win those tough games, we're going to have to win the AE to get in. That said though, I'd love to sweep all the CAA and A10 games and go 4-0 in them. I'd wager all but Rhode Island could be winnable.

Don't mind the easier schedule- still have some really good teams on the schedule so it will still be a test.

I do not think all of those losses at the start of the year were helpful in building confidence. I think Coach Boals decided to rein in the difficulty. Bottom line no team from the AE is getting an at-large bid.

I don't buy that at all. We had a weak team last year. We went 7-9 in the AE and lost to Norfolk St.

Conversely however, we nearly pulled off upsets against Uconn and Providence, and got a huge win against Rutgers which was the bright spot of the season. A national TV game against Michigan State was great too, and we stayed in that game for a while. Those things can't happen if we play Cupcake U, Cupcake State, Cupcake A&M, and Cupcake Tech during the non conference schedule. I'll always advocate for the tougher schedule. The AE may never put a team in the tournament as an at-large, but we're definitely not getting in as an at-large with a weak schedule. There are zero downsides to a tough OOC like we played last year. The team just needs to get better.

I agree VA. I am quite disappointed in in OOC thus far. I am not sure if coach Boals thought last year schedule was to tough on his team or if he had a tough time scheduling teams from the power 5 conf this year. Either way, or SOS will be horrible come seeding time if SB wins the AE title and we get the auto bid. That is how i see it when you have a soft OOC schedule.

Absolutely. Although that didn't seem to hurt UMBC last year  ;D The AE champ is usually a 13 or a 14 seed, so having UMBC as a 16 seed was a landmine waiting to happen for a team like UVA, which didn't have the typical overwhelming talent of a #1 seed.

Ultimately though, there's no downside and only upside to having a challenging schedule, so we should just do it.

I think our schedule reflects  that we are still a young team and lots to learn as we go.  If everyone improves this year  then next seasons schedule  should be a little tougher.  Don't forget we have 6 new faces showing up this year and one will be a red shirt.

I think if we didn’t play who we did last year, we’d all be pretty psyched about this lineup of opponents. The PK 80 last year was a triple - can’t say it’s a homer because we coughed up the UConn and Ball State games. But those were four good games. This year’s HOF Tip-off slate isn’t quite as fierce and we don’t have Maryland in there but overall I’m pleased with the schedule. Two CAA teams here is nice.

All at-large talk needs to cease immediately.

I agree totally.  Even though we had some good halves against some major powers last year, I don't see the value of those games, given who we are and the conference that we are in.  Overall, I like this schedule; some very winnable games.   This is really Coach Boals' first year with HIS team imprint through and through; let's tread on the lighter side this year, and try to get some quality wins, and if success is great, we can up the ante next year.

If you're planning your weekend nights over the winter, better include the Seawolves. The schedule now includes tip times and count 'em up: SIX home games on Saturday night. No complaints from me whatsoever. Love the IFCU atmosphere when the community's out in force. It's an EVENT!

Basketball is one sport that the student body comes out for .  The student is always full  except during winter break .

Give students one more reason to stick around on the weekends.

Basketball is one sport that the student body comes out for .  The student is always full  except during winter break .

Which is really great honestly. IFCU might be a little on the small side (given the ambitions for our athletic programs, but that great turnout is always fantastic to see.

is it expandable?  ive been there many times and im going to say no, because it was a re-purposing of the old arena.  i think that's all the room they really had.
