We can say that we're still jockeying for position, but realistically, we're looking at a tough first-round road test no matter what unfolds over the last couple weeks. We're effectively three games back of Albany with four to play, and it would take an incredible collapse from Hartford to fall all the way back to five, not to mention a surge of momentum for us.

Hopefully, though, we're trying to turn a corner here, and to be playing our best basketball going into March. Granted, a home win over Lowell and squeaker at Maine aren't exactly these momentous confidence boosts, but we'll take anything at this point.

Binghamton's now a game and a half back of eighth-place Maine for the final conference tournament spot, AND Maine swept the season series. So it's tough row to hoe right now for BU. However, if it has any designs on sneaking in, they're going to need this one.

I'm a little surprised by how poorly Bingo has fared this year. Bruce is a nice guy in the middle, Rodriguez is a 1,000 point scorer, and Show is capable of some big nights (although I think he's such a gunner). A little wild card who has entered the fray is the kid Stewart, who barely saw the floor against us the first time, but has since had a stretch of three straight double-digit nights, and a fourth game where he went for 9 points. And then there's another freshman, Andre Odero, who went for 14 in their last outing against UMBC, hoisting 13 shots in a season-high 25 minutes.

So it seems like BU is trying to figure some things out as well, and that includes a youth movement akin to ours with Olaniyi, Ochefu and McKenzie.

How about Bingo's most recent loss to Maine – 13 for 40 from three. 40 of their 71 shots from deep. That is something.

I worry about this one. BU didn't play well against us, but in the times I've seen them otherwise, they've looked all right, in particular when they absolutely took it to Albany early in the conference season.

this is all we really got left this year.  we could split the next few games and it wouldnt matter.  we need to play our best in the AE tournament.  specifically, the later rounds- if we even get there.

i dont think we are catching UNH, not with the games ahead.  6th place is a reality and then its likely UA or maybe even hartford, BC, etc.

i know im a downer this year but if i'm ANY america east coach, i go into the SB game like this- pack in the D and let them shoot outside; if they penetrate against a zone (?) good luck; if the drive the hoop then foul; charge into the paint on every possession; empty the bench and 3/4 press for as many minutes as you can; keep bigs in both keys for easy boards; just score more than 55 points.

even if SB gets off 30 longballs and sinks 10, you'll hold them to 10 free throws and certainly under 60 total.

Really surprised that Binghamton has fared as poorly as they have in the AE.  I think they are better than Maine, UML, and maybe even us.  Believe they are underachieving overall, and we'll see how they come at against us at home, with not much left for them to play for.

I'll be busy so I won't watch. It'd be nice to sneak out a win against a rival SUNY school, but that's really all we've got going for us here .

I feel like we’re going to stub our toe tonight. BU is better than its record.

I switched over to the Vermont game. Can't stomach watching SB tonight

From what I saw in the second half, looked like two evenly matched teams and the guys in green made a few more buckets. Can't say I got anything more than that.

The Bearcats were hungrier tonight and it showed.  Anyway home against UNH Sunday should be fun .

I think SB should take a page out of Albany's book and maybe not start the season against top-20/big conference teams. Use the beginning of the season to work on the basics, like running an efficient offensive and getting good shots. Starting the season 1-5 (even though I think they almost beat UConn) has gotta be discouraging and it seems like they never dug themselves out of that hole.

It’s a sad end to Ty’s career. He was a nice reserve his first two years and, while he had some head scratchers, he still played an important role in our success as a junior. This year, it seems as though Boals has seen enough of him - nothing inside, too many turnovers, not enough on defense, poor shot selection a lot of the time. Tonight, 6 minutes, 3 fouls (1 a weak tech) and almost no contributions. Saintel had a nice first half, but the four other seniors combined for 5 points.

Just not enough firepower or consistency.

I agree.  Seems like a nice kid, but since his surge in the 1st half of last season, it's been straight downhill for him.  Poor basketball IQ and athleticism just not showing up. 'Tis a shame.

Although Olaniyi makes a lot of freshmen mistakes, he shows lots of potential and he and Yeboah will be the core of the team next year.   Point guard worries me tremendously.  Cornish, who has abundant energy and athleticism, is just plain out of control too much, and that is a position that requires discipline as the quarterback of the team.  On the other hand, as I watch McKenzie closely, he lacks athleticism, and is downright slow - certainly more in control than Cornish, but can't see him being the starting PG moving forward.  For whatever reason, Almonacy has fallen out of favor, and he'll probably wind up transferring I'd imagine, if he's looking to continue his playing.  Personally, I'd play Almonacy now over McKenzie.

Saintel played a really good game last night - tremendously athletic, just needs to finish better around the rim generally.  That steal and dunk last night was the highlight of the game.  Also, Chef did some good things early in the game last night.   He's raw, but I definitely see potential there.

Last night it seemed that Binghamton was able to consistently run high screen and rolls, resulting in open layups. What I don't understand (in watching every SB AE game) is why it is so difficult for SB to get high percentage shots. (Boals said the team missed a lot of good looks last night. I didn't see very many.)

Also, on further consideration, Boals has to give Garcia minutes at the expense of one of the seniors. Ochefu has benefited from the game time, and I think Garcia will benefit from the experience going into next season.

I agree on all fronts Oldseawolf. Especially with Almonancy.  Big mistake not playing a local product. Coach Boals has a lot to learn.  I personally think coach B is NOT a HC but more of an assisstant.

I too, am disappointed with his effort this year, but I think we need to give him 1 year, with HIS recruits.  I think we were all led to believe that this year would be much better, given last year's results.  But looking back on it, he leaned heavily on Woodhouse, as he should have, but this year, we have no leadership on the court at all.  Every team lives or dies with its quarterback.  Let's see what next year brings.

I'll reserve judgment on Boals for now. Not saying I completely disagree with you, but he deserves a longer leash. He did a nice job with last year's team.

On your other point, I'd have to think that very few are clamoring for more Almonacy. Granted, I'm surprised he's been DNP'd entirely, but I think that's mostly on merit. He has looked disinterested; maybe that's just on the outside. I could see him getting some bit time, but that Iroegbu has played the point when Mac and Cornish have been in foul trouble speaks volumes about how far Almonacy has fallen ... assuming he's not injured of course.

And if you have a problem with them not playing him simply because he's local, then you should take a close look at the recruits on our radar. Nobody's local. Problem with that or no? I do not because the Long Island hoops landscape is pretty barren in general. Let's get the best guys we can, regardless of their place of origin.

Checkmate. Coach Boals absolutey should be playing Almonacy over Cornish or McKenzie. Boals wont because he didnt recruit Almonacy . Coach P was widely liked and popular on long Island because he did have a couple of local products from L I on his team. Woodhouse had a nice following when he was here, so does Almonacy ..

Last year team was not his team. It was still Pikiell so, I give Boals very little credit for their season.

I have to give coach Boals one more season as well before I make a final judgement call on him, but from what I am seeing of his play calling and use of timeouts, he is as green as they come..

Savion Lewis, PG,is  the best player on Long Island and is averaging 33 points per game for Half Hollow Hills .He has no offers from Stony Brook. Now could that be because of his grades? Possible.. Maybe someone with some info can tell me if this is the case or not.. HH plays Ward Melville next week in the 2nd round of the playoffs..
