Title: Victor Ochi and other SBU talent
Post by: Campi47 on January 04, 2016, 04:24:53 pm
It was a good move on Ochi's part to go to the East-West Game because the week leading up to practice will have many Scouts in attendance and that this more important then what happens in the game itself

Naim Cheeseboro is also getting attention from the NFL Scouts

Several teams in the NFL are keeping an eye on Will Tye because with Coughlin stepping down he could be out there for the taking and the fact that he showed that he belongs expect him to get a good pay day next year.

I was afraid of this happening. Coughlin took Tye under his wing, but a new HC might not. I would love to see Tye stay with the Giants but I do understand this is a business now..In the end I hope he signs a multi year contract regardless where he winds up.

Victor Ochi went Beast Mode today at the East West Shrine game.  hope you all got a chance to see this fantastic SBU football alum in action.  had one crushing sack, several hurries, and even ran down QB Vernon Adams from behind in the open field for a nice tackle.  the NFL Network analysts were raving about Ochi and his potential draft stock.

not sure how Ochi will fare in the LB group.  I heard that his pass coverage skills were not that great.  but heck, he made it, and he will get his measurable taken along with the rest of the guys.  congrats.

some of the Talking Heads are projecting him in the 3rd round, if he has good performances in the Combine, Pro Day and the individual meetings with teams.

Ochi looked great yesterday at the Combine.  held his own with all the other players.  anyone know when SBU will be holding its Pro Day this year?  Ochi should bring a good crowd of scouts out to La Valle this year.

Ochi is projected to go in the 4th round of the draft.  I guess that would be Saturday....

After going undrafted in the NFL Draft Victor Ochi signs as a FA with the Baltimore Ravens

I'm starting to think it doesn't matter how good you are, nobody is going to get drafted from SB anytime soon. Ochi was the second best defensive end in the CAA with incredible numbers and he doesn't hear his name called, but Maine, Trevor Bates, LB gets chosen instead.. The same thing with Will Tye. I think this is going to continue for a long time until some NFL team finally gives a player from SB a shot, and put us on the radar.. I also think not having any players drafted out of SB hurts future recruiting.

The Ravens stole Ochi on the cheap as a UDFA and I have no doubt, he will make the roster this NFL season...

The time is now to start making a name for this Football program and get on the map. Are you reading this Mr. Heilbron!!!!!

UDFAs often make more than late round picks because they can bargain with multiple teams.

The MVP of SB 49 was an UDFA.

Will Tye had 42 receptions and is pretty much the Giants' starting TE.

Ozzie knows talent.

IOW, I wouldn't worry about the draft.

The draft alone isn't the only way to get recruits. Ochi needs to make the team and keep the SB name out there.

I just heard yesterday that Christian Ricard has been working very hard and he might be getting a tryout with the New England Patriots as a Special Teams Guy it's not definite but he has some people outside of SBU trying to help him

That would be the perfect team for Ricard to get a tryout with. They don't care were you went to school, as long as you can play. Hope he gets a shot.

Ochi is looking more like a Practise squad player this year, and I agree. He needs more time to develope into a NFL player.

this writer has a decidedly negative tone towards Ochi.  I have read other stories of "on the bubble" Ravens, and Ochi is not mentioned.

but heck, Tye started out on the practice squad last year, and look at his rise on the roster.

This is very true.. The difference between the Giants and the Ravens is. The Giants were slim in the TE position last year and the Ravens are heavy in the Linebacker position this year .. You just dont know when your time is up...

so what's up with ochi and the jets now...

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2016/09/how_jets_signed_victor_ochi_to_practice_squad_but.html

Quote
The Jets had Ochi listed internally as a player whom they might soon sign to the practice squad. And his name was accidentally released with the finalized practice squad signees. A simple clerical error. Ochi had visited the Jets, but he did not sign with them. Why not?

The Jets planned to sign Ochi to their practice squad, but he didn't pass his physical, because he injured his shoulder in the Ravens' preseason finale.
