Another commitment from Ward Melville, midfielder Eddie Munoz. Munoz currently has 15 goals and 11 assists good for fourth in points on a Ward Melville team loaded with talent.

I watched some of the WM-Yorktown. Kickel was on the first line and Munoz was playing on the second line. Also worth noting that Cusmano seems to have missed the majority of the season with a lower body injury.

Why did you choose Stony Brook? “Stony Brook University has the atmosphere that I am looking for in a university. I was able to meet with the team and coaches and really felt at home with them. I especially liked the facilities for the student athletes. Their academic advisory program and the athletic center look amazing and definitely played a part in my decision.”

he shows that he can play in the crease and on the wing, off ball, on the breaks, dodges from x, etc.  Both hands too, at least shooting.  Looks like a natural inside finisher and i wouldnt be surprised if we used him more off ball than carrying.  has the discipline to bounce the ball overhand.  shares the ball from under the GLE.  he has a lot of the tools of an attacker- quick feet, off ball movement, smooth change of hands, inside shooter, unselfish.

MP went 12-5 last year.  i think the year before they won the suffolk title.  i think his brother is a sophomore at marist and had a pretty successful HS career at MP.  same HS as jeff reh.

plays indoor and outdoor, lefty, plays hockey, and a physical game.  has a BTB shot, can drive the GLE, seems like a dodge first attacker, mostly from the wing (makes sense, box game).  3D lacrosse club, brine natl classic, ontario JR A (burlington).  he was selected fourth overall in the draft.

hes on a list of high school AAs, though that doesnt make a lot of sense, being canadian??? http://www.nationallacrosseclassic.com/high-school-boys-151617/

heres  a write up from the team canada box exhibition: http://3drising.com/articles/box/boys/team-canada-haudenosaunee-youth-players-shine-wilc-u17-box-exhibition

Quote
Kaschalk was a nasty presence on the back half for Team Canada. A member of the Windsor Clippers Junior B program where he is a transition player, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Kaschalk slid into a more defensive role and proved to be a nasty, physical and athletic presence for Team Canada. He made hard contact with his cross checks and played with a berserk manner throughout Saturday and Sunday, finding himself in the box a couple of times following some enforcement activities. But he also showed skill and speed handling the ball up the floor, even adding goal in transition.

munoz (grippe too) at ward Melville (nagle's alma mater!) beat whitman, connetquot, and Syosset.  the next play Lakeland today in the class A state final.  over those three games, munoz scored 6,3 and grippe had 5,6.

laxmagazine ranks HS teams nationally (can't mean much) but said this:

Quote
5. Ward Melville (N.Y.), 17-3

The Patriots are riding an eight-game win streak into the Class A state semifinals, thanks to a stingy defense that has not allowed any opponent to score more than eight goals during their run. Ward Melville topped Connetquot (N.Y.), 13-5, in the Suffolk A championship, then followed that with a 9-5 win over Syosset in the Long Island Class A championship game as Connor Grippe (Stony Brook) finished with two goals and two assists. Eddie Munoz (Stony Brook) added three goals for the Patriots, who face Lakeland/Panas in the state semifinals Wednesday.

munoz (29,15) at left:

cassidy at shoreham (18-2) beat comsewogue, and then Sayville to win Suffolk B.  then, they beat garden city to win LI, giving up only 15 goals during the stretch.  they play Yorktown today for class B.

wolff (byrne and shephard too) at nisky defeated guilderland (byrne had 4) but was upset by Shen in the Section A finals.

hebert and st. michael's college are now 29-5, rattling off six more wins.

munoz at WM (grippe too) lost in the NY Class A finals to Victor, 7-5.  I cant find a box score, but I guess here's some good news, I think grippe had 2 and munoz had 1: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/high-school/2016/06/11/victor-wins-boys-class-state-lacrosse-title/85749752/

Quote
The Patriots (18-4) bounced back to take a 5-4 lead as Connor Grippe scored with 5:08 left in the third, and then Eddie Munoz took a feed from Dominic Pryor and beat Victor goalie Chayse Ierlan 55 seconds into the fourth quarter.

http://www.mpnnow.com/sports/20160611/victor-boys-win-second-straight-state-title/?Start=2

Quote
The result was three straight Victor goals as Dan Barrow and Ryan Maloney tied the game with goals one minute apart, and Andrew Russell’s goal at 8:08 gave Victor a 4-3 lead. Grippe tied the game three minutes later with another goal on the run, and Eddie Munoz fired a rocket past goalie Chayse Ierlan at 11:05 of the fourth quarter for a 5-4 lead.

http://tbrnewsmedia.com/tag/connor-grippe/
Quote
Senior attack and midfielder Connor Grippe bounced in a good goal before Victor scored unassisted with its first goal of the game for a 3-1 halftime advantage over a team that averaged 16 goals per game up to that point.
Victor proved why it is undefeated though, and scored three unanswered goals before Grippe moved the ball to the middle and stretched the netting unassisted, to knot the game at four goals apiece with 5:08 left in the third.
The teams remained in a stalemate until the fourth, when junior attack Eddie Munoz rocketed a shot between the pipes from up top to give the Patriots a 5-4 advantage, but again, the Blue Devils proved what they are really made of.

not that you can really rank HS teams... but laxmagazine has WM pegged at #13 nationally and #5 in the northeast. http://laxmagazine.com/high_school/boys/2015-16/rankings/062116_nike_lacrosse_magazine_high_school_boys_top_25_regional_top_10s

Quote
5. Ward Melville (N.Y.), 18-4
The Patriots won nine straight games en route to the Class A title game, where they lost 7-5 to Victor. Ward Melville was just the second team all season to hold a deep and dangerous Victor squad under 10 goals. Connor Grippe (Stony Brook) scored two goals for the Patriots, who topped Lakeland/Panas, 16-6, in the state semifinals. Eddie Munoz (Stony Brook) netted five goals in the semifinal win. Previous ranking: 5

2016 All County, 2016 scored 24G, 21A

Plays football, also took some faceoffs I think and maybe used to play some attack

Westhampton Beach went 11-5 this season with two OT losses.  It’s quite the turnaround from the year prior. http://www.laxpower.com/update16/binboy/XWHBNY.PHP

O'Leary: http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2016/aug/22/schenectady-football-looks-bounce-back/

Quote
Defenseman Devin O’Leary of Foothills Council lacrosse champion Queensbury has made a verbal commitment to Stony Brook University.

O’Leary was named a league first-team all-star this past spring and made the Endicott College Elite 100 Camp all-star team this summer. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound O’Leary will become the second Spartan to compete at the Division I level following 2001 graduate Matt Ellement, who played at the United States Military Academy.

Stony Brook went 12-4 this past season and lost to Vermont in the America East title game. Stony Brook’s 2015 roster included sophomore long stick midfielder Kyle Abdellatif of Ballston Spa and freshman goalkeeper Dan Comber of Bethlehem.

Actually, Melville beat Smithtown East in OT earlier in the season. Melville is rolling right now and Smithtown played an ultra conservative game in the semis.  I'll take the team on a roll versus the team that has the coach thinking too much. Go Pats!

Munoz is a beast. Did you happen to watch the Ward melville football suffolk championship game last year?? Munoz was amazing in that game. SB is getting a trophy Lax players from WM nest year.. My son said the school was electrified the next day after the game.

Erler, Munoz and Walsh made the Newsday All-Long Island Teams. Munoz is on the First Team.

Do we think any of these freshmen or some of the other recruits can contribute next year? I know the team is young

We had 3 on the All-Rookie team last year

its only club ball but:

ehlers: http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/epoch-il-committed-academy-class-of-2017-recaps/50202

Quote
The Americans jumped out to a 3-1 victory at the end of the first quarter. Stony Brook bound John Ehlers' 13-for-21 performance at the face-off X helped fuel a late run for the Americans with four goals in the fourth quarter.

also erler got a mention in there:

Quote
A pair of clutch saves from Ryan Erler (Stony Brook) prevented a longer run from the Gentlemen, but they eventually broke through as Matthew Hughes scored his second goal of the game for SoCon; this time with a cross handed finish right in front of the keeper to tie the game.

fixed; moved from the '20 thread, might be a bit stale:

Mackenzie Rope '21
Pitt Meadows, BC / Pitt Meadows Secondary
Midfield
6'1'' 165lbs

http://3dlacrosse.com/3d-rising/mackenzie-rope-2

Quote
Mackenzie was the most valuable player on offense, defense, as well as the faceoff x this weekend for BC. Starting at the x, his skills were immediately made apparent. Mackenzie’s hand speed and physical dominance allowed for him to go hot out the front and create his own fast breaks. When he wasn’t able to push the ball forward, he was still usually able to get the clamp and draw it back to his wings. While most faceoff guys take off once possession is gained, Mackenzie usually stayed on for a shift on the offensive end and contributed a number of goals and assists over the weekend. When things did happen to go the other way, his size and speed were pivotal in killing the odd man rushes and preventing transition goals from the other team.

http://www.mapleridgenews.com/sports/163107686.html

Quote
“Mackenzie makes an impact in all areas of the game,” said Hoskins. “He played a key role for us in transition as one of our top face-off specialists and was one of our main contributors offensively.” sky is the limit as far as Rope’s future goes in field lacrosse, as long as he continues to put forth the tremendous work effort he’s shown so far. Selected as a U-13 tournament all-star at the Denver team camp last summer, this is the second straight year that Mackenzie has been named to the tournament all-star team after moving up an age division in 2012,” said Hoskins. “Mackenzie is a great athlete and looks to have a very bright future in outdoor lacrosse.”
