Title: SB vs Binghamton 4/19 1pm
Post by: Chairman of the Board on April 16, 2014, 09:39:08 am
Bingo is much improved this year, no secret.  Recent coaching change is paying dividends.  They are historically a defensive-minded team.  They doubled up Canisius last night, who just beat Albany last week.  Despite being 6-6 on the year, they are 3-0 in the AE and a real threat to win it all.  They crushed UMBC and play UA on 4/26.  No real notable wins, but a lot of close losses to solid teams, including a 10-8 loss to the Cuse at the Dome.

They beat us by 1 last year and missed the AE tournament with a 1-4 record.  They usually have a sluggish offense (averaged 8.4 last year) and we gave up 14.  Bingo lately has been giving up 6 goals per game (excluding a mere 10 to the mighty Cuse).  We average about double that this year.

Truth be told, with the neutral site for the AE tourney, this game might only determine the color of the jersey.  SB really needs to win against Hartford to clinch the spot in the tourney.  But nevertheless, all games count.

The Cats are on a three game winning streak, SB has lost 4 of the last 5.  The game is at Bingo and will be broadcast on AETV: http://www.americaeast.com//mediaPortal/player.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14000&KEY=&id=1081417&catid=0

Another 3 goal lead wasted...this team as regressed since last season and this year we can actually win face offs and make some big saves.  Awful game...sad season after having such high hopes in the fall.

Worst reffing I have ever seen.  Would like to play them again on neutral territory with no homer refs.

"We're still pushing forward and still have a lot left in the season"

Really coach,  because last time I checked if you lose on Friday the season is over...maybe his is thinking about year 4 of is tenure.  The guy is delusional.  0-5 on the road and 1-3 in conf play just doesn't get it done...take some accountability.

Good thing I'm not a lacrosse fan otherwise I would be ripping on their coach. I was getting some updates on Twitter yesterday and could not believe how many penalties SB was getting called for in the first half.... There comes a point in time a coach needs to be held responsible, yesterday was one of those days!

Nothing to say, 3 yr record speaks for itself.

Four years ago  we were  a powerhouse going into the quarter finals of the NCAA's.  Now we may not even make the AE  tourney .  Can the womens coach  , coach two teams at once ?

There's parity in the men's game, zero on the women's side. If the team wins on Friday, there's new life. Sowell didn't make the NCAA tournament until his fourth year.  Give the guys a break. All these "kids" will be upperclassmen next year.

What does parity have to do with it. No one here is bashing on the "kids". Sowell didn't have a losing season. This coach has had 3 in a row, when the program had 1 in 10 seasons before he got here. We are not looking for national titles, we are looking to be relevant and having winning seasons is part of it. I get the fact that he made the tourney in his 1st yr, but those were Sowell players. This coach has made it clear that he wanted his own recruits, after running off plenty of Sowell holdovers. Well this is his team in yr 2 and they have gotten worse. I don't know you but maybe you enjoy watching this, the rest of us don't. I support SB athletics with season ticket purchases, and as a alumn I would like to see better for the school. I have never called out a kid on this site but as for a grown man getting paid to do a job you should take some responsibility for what is going on. If I did my job that poorly I wouldn't have 4 yrs to fix it.

Parity has everything to do with it.  I should explain to you what that means in person.  This is the guy's second recruiting class.  Give the guy a break.  Go check out Scott Marr's and Don Zimmerman's record in recent years.  Nagle didn't run of Sowell's recruits.  They chose to transfer and play elsewhere.  Why should Nagle have allegiance to guys he didn't recruit.  This is Division I.  He's entitled to recruit or bring back anyone he wants.  If you're so bitter about him and the way the department deals with him, don't go to the games.  I supported Tiffany, I supported Sowell and I support Nagle.  SHouldn't be looking at it any less.  Is Priore any less of a coach because he won five games after winning 10 the previous year?

Priore has a track record, so one season doesn't define him. I agree every coach wants his own recruits, but if you are looking to win now you take players from wherever you get them. I will continue to go to games and support the school but I do not have to except what I see. If you are at the gms then you should be hearing the same rumblings that I do in the stands. If you like this coach then so be it, enjoy watching this mess. The school has put a 100% commitment into athletics with top notch facilities so I like many others feel that the excuses are old and you need to put an emphasis on winning. This is not little league were participation counts. I do appreciate the difference of opinion though, and welcome the back and forth banter as long as you don't take it personal cause I never do.

Captaindj21, this is sports, not a child or a sibling. You can't expect blind allegiance from sports fans. If that's your way, fine, but you can't expect it from others. It may or may not be too soon to hold Nagle's feet to the fire, but my allegiance is to the success of SB sports, not to any coach.

If it's any consolation, Navy under Sowell not doing any better than SB this season.

Navy under Sowell is currently 13-24; most wins are over new or bottom 10 programs.  Some good showings against great teams (Hop, Loyola) but ended up close losses.  EXCEPT for a mysterious 8-2 beating of JHU (2012), best win is Towson (2012) or Colgate (2012).

Unfortunately, Richie Meade's final season at USNA was the same exact story.

The school  is trying to build a fan base across all sports. Having  back to back losing seasons doesn't help. If any team we have started  to slide over 2 or 3 years we would hear grumblings it is the nature of the beast. So it is not just mens lax  under the gun. I  have no  fault with the players they want to win as much as anybody . But if poor  calls are being made by the coach or his or her staff  then that becomes a problem.  Nagle had a great record at Colgate and I believe they were  ranked his last two  seasons at Hamilton.  So why not SBU  in his own hometown actually ?
