Title: 2013: Game 5 - SBU vs Bryant 10/5 - Wolfstock
Post by: ecasadoSBU on September 30, 2013, 12:52:08 pm
We are days away from the Biggest Weekend in Stony Brook's athletic year. Homecoming. Should be an exciting day full of tailgating, old friendships, and some FOOTBALL! After a long wait, the day has come.

Stony Brook vs. Bryant @ 6PM. Make sure you get there early for some good fun. Should be a great day. Lets pray the weather collaborates

I believe the main lot opens at 12pm. I have many friends that are leaving the cars on friday night to circumvent that so if you are one of the early tailgaters, then make sure you get that car into the lot on friday night

Here is the schedule of University sponsored activities if you are into those kind of things:

http://www.stonybrook.edu/sb/wolfstock/schedule.html

Lets celebrate Seawolves Spirit and make this the best homecoming yet

GO SEAWOLVES!

There you go man. You are as well received as any graduate of SBU. Your presence and passion for SB athletics makes this place a whole lot better. Hope you have a lot of fun this weekend like the rest of us, and best of luck to your wife in her undergraduate studies at the Brook

In other matters around the Northeast. It took UConn to take a 41-12 loss to Buffalo in order to fire its Head Coach. Paul is gone. Fresh start at Storrs

I notice we will be without the starting LB #33; big loss in the middle.  looking forward to the BBQ & game this Saturday; I will be making my usual 4 hour drive north  to see SB get  back on track.

I will only miss three road games this year; having to much fun.

4 hour drive north? A couple of us are car pooling from the D.C. area if that's somewhere nearby. I'm not sure we have room for an extra but we're definitely going to make some other trips up there. As usual, go Seawolves!

I don't think this post can be correct.  #33 is Don Liotine, I believe, who is a Freshman RB who I think is redshirted this year.  Perhaps the LB you're referring to is Niam Cheesboro (#22), who left the game last week late with an injury.  I hope not because he's a key defensive asset.  He is still listed on this week's depth chart, so I'm not sure it's the case that he can't play.  But, I'd sure like you to clarify if you can.

Right you are SBUFAN33 and ddmd!!!  My apologies, and I did confirm that Franklin is not on the depth chart this week.  I sure wish they'd stop issuing duplicate uniform numbers; what's up with that??

Anyhow, what it means for Saturday is that SBU has to recover from yet another key injury.  If my count is right, there will be six Seawolves down at this Saturday's game who are guys that would have been counted on for key contributions.  Anyway--GO Seawolves!!!

LB Grant Naakawasa will be back this week from a 1gm suspension. He and Franklin have rotated starting at that spot 4 yrs now with Dudley starting and getting most of the run at the other LB spot. Losing Franklin hurts but not as much if Naakawasa plays. Reggie has been injury prone his whole career witch is a shame cause he could of been real special. Let's just hope he is back soon cause we could use his big play ability and leadership down the stretch. We do need Cheeseboro healthy, that is a must. I am just glad we have enough guy's on the roster to have double numbers.

ecasado.. I think everyone on this board including me,  are really disappointed with our Football team this year not because of how they are playing but because of all the terrible injuries to our top players.. .We are not used to this happening to us,, I mean come on, week after week our boys are getting hurt and our depth players are stretched to the limit.. We just can't catch a break.!!!!!!!!. A win tomorrow will really boost the morale of this team and hopefully pump everyone up for the up and coming conference games...

No giving up here... I am with them through thick and thin.  Do i get HOT when I see plays go bad, o yea. Do I get a little emotional when we lose , yep... But I will never turn my back on these guys !!!!!

This year is a learning curve for SB playing in the CAA and I do put some blame on  our offense and defense coaches.... If Priore needs to make changes in the off season and change some of the personnel to better fit the new conference caliber, so be it.  He needs to do whats best for this organization

lets not drop the playoff plans just yet.  I agree with you Hammer, Coach P will have to assess his personnel and game planning in the off season to see if it still fits with the tougher CAA.  injuries have really hurt us tho.

I really can't listen to this junk about replacing coaches and not being ready for the CAA anymore. First off even with all the injuries, if they would have executed better at certain times they would have beaten Buffalo and #2 ranked Towson, the record would have been 3-1 and nobody would say a thing. The last couple of yrs you have seen a team take UTEP to OT, take SHST to the finish, lead and dominate the 'Cuse for a half, beat Army and play Montana St. tough. These gms came down to one thing, execution!!! When you fail to do so against good teams you don't win. This is not a game plan issue or a asst coach issue it is an execution issue. If the coaching staff weren't prepared or good at what they do this team would not be were they are now. To keep being critical of coaches game plans and how they do there business is just plain ignorant. I played for SB and I know al lot about football but that hardly makes me an expert when it comes to coaching moves, and gm plans. I don't think you guy's realize what goes into running a good college football program, it's a lot of work that none of us can do. You are entitled to your opinion but Iam also entitled to call you out on it when it is made without fact. I will enjoy my Homecoming tomorrow win or lose, and I will continue to bark when I see fit. These comments about the coaching staff are getting old.

Chrissy. Go back and read my post. I never said Priore needs to fire our coaches. I said.... "If Priore needs to make changes in the off season and change some of the personnel to better fit the new conference caliber, so be it."

In all sports, Personnel changes are very common to  better fit the teams agenda. We all want SB to be # 1 in the FCS  and all sports for that matter, but to accomplish that you need top, experience personnel as well as good players to accomplish this goal.. This year we have  injury issues, something we can't control but I strongly believe when our top players return this team will be a force to be reckoned with !!

You give this board valuable information about our players and upcoming high school athletes and i enjoy reading your posts .....

I like your thinking, guys!!  I am especially encouraged by the writeup on Poteat, and am looking forward to it all coming true today.  But, I also want to put in my two cents for the two players I think could be equally as impactful, based upon what I've observed recently.  I know I've been on this kick for several weeks now, but I'm really anxious to see it happen:

-- I think James Kenner can be just as effective as Poteat, and I think he definitely proved it last week.  I wouldn't mind seeing them together in the backfield on some drives.  Could be awsome!!

-- I'm convinced Jahrie Level is a force waiting to be unleashed!!  At least on a couple of plays, I'd love to see Eugene, Coxson and Level in together to spread the defense and open up the Bryant DBs and Corners to some explosive break-aways

I got to the Bronx just now. Don't ask me how. I was able to successfully make three transfers without passingout. So now that I'm back to my old self. Looking at the stats I see that we broke attendance records for LaValle Stadium. jam packed stadium with 11,224 fans. whatagreatfeeling. amazing stuff.

We average a sellout right now 9541. This homecoming was the greatest ever. So many great people that make part of the stony brook community. so special. I really love that place. I'm from the bronx, but my heart belongs out there at Stony Brook. Special day and Im glad our Seawolves won, despite the challenges.

we needed this win and we got it. at least we don't have any shitty losses to the NEC. Beat Colgate and get back to conference play. We can do this. Our team has another week to get ready. LETS GO STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES!

Have a great night everyone.

I ditto that ecasadoSBU. After drinking about 15 LongIrelands, you would think I would still be in bed at 4;15 am but I wanted to check the stats . Not to mention I tore my calf muscle on Thursday and I was that clown hopping around on one foot with a crutches in one hand and a beer in the other lol.. and now  I am paying for it... It was Well worth it because of Woodstock and SB won..We'all  had a great time.

p.s. I think Negron needs to stop zooming in on one target and make better decision in the pocket. He gets sacked way to often and does not know when to throw the ball away !!

The article pretty well sums things up, and I agree it was a great night--especially with the terrific crowd.  But, I think there are two other points that weren't made (one very good, the other very bad) that are worth pointing out:

--1) (The good):  On the two passes to Tye that Negron mentions, Tye is worthy of a big SO for the power running and balance after the catches.  He just wouldn't go down until he had the yards needed.  Efforts of beauty in two key situations!!

--2) (The bad):  This is two weeks in a row now where tons of yards have been acrificed due to long yardage penalties (e.g. pass interference, roughing the passer, unsportsmanlike behavior).  These are devastating and have had major impacts these past two games.  More maturity and awareness is needed!!

That said, a lot of guys played extremely well, and we should be happy with the win.  Go get Colgate!!  Go Seawolves!!

What a day at stony brook started at 6:00 am & ended at 1:00 am; the weather was fantastic. Just got back home & wish i could do it all over again; love being there and sharing time w my son.

We got a win the hard way; we have a lot of injuries on this team & a lot of penalty during key drives.

But we got the win...  :)

Now we have 2 weeks until the schedule gets tough; i am hopeful the young men get healthy & we have some great football to watch.

We all get caught up in the moment at times; but i had the privilege to meet passionate fans at SB.

Our section can be tough at times; but they love SB football.

So I think this may be an appropriate questions after saturday's match up and great support:

Can Long Island successfully back big-time FCS College Football? Would a 15k LaValle Stadium be a possibility in the mid-to-long term future for Stony Brook? can we sustainably have a FCS football product out here at SBU?

I know Stony Brook is very supportive of athletics but for some reason after every big crowd a thought of Hofstra crosses my mind. Hofstra's cautionary tale has created the perception that CFB cannot thrive in the island. Even on their best days they couldn't get large crowds at Hofstra Stadium from what I heard. Hopefully we never face such issues. Lets go Wolves!

Win games.. make it to the Playoffs year after year and I will say YES to everything you asked.. New Yorkers will back up a team when they win, when they lose we are the worst fans in the world. Sad but true... Stony Brook is not Hofstra and I see a different fan base with more class and respect... Bottom line, WIN, WIN, WIN !!!!!!!!!

Will Tye should be a consistent weapon for this team. He is a nightmare matchup for LBs and DBs, as they can not match up against him.  yes his two catches were clutch, but I'd like to see him featured more in the offense, maybe getting 5-7 catches per game.  I wish they'd draw up some downfield plays for him.  Lets get Level involved in the passing game.

I agree BFF, but I'am afraid thats not going to be the case this year. Priore made it clear after the Towson game he was going back to SB roots, and thats the running game... The running game is obviously a very important part of SB Football and pass success but it's not our trademark this year..... Lets utilize our very talented transfers more and start smoking the  CAA defenses..... We can still do that with Tye, Coxson, Eugene Wheeler,Level and others.....

I don't get it but then again, we're not down on the field playing or coaching !!!!!!

Thanks for reading my post- I'm completely renovating the site. I hope you guys check out my Flickr...I'm having way too much fun with my camera!

Will Tye needs to get the ball more often, bottom line. He can't be tackled and has shown some great hands. I know its not in SBU DNA to have the tight end involved in the offense but we haven't had talent like this ever. I also can't make sense of why Jahrie Level hasn't got going. Granted, Coxson and Eugene are beasts right now but its odd he hasn't gotten on track. On a positive note, how about Tyler Fredericks? I think he's going to be a stud- he's got great size and he's only going to get better.

On a side note, man what a great atmosphere at LaValle Stadium. If we can draw like that regularly, look out. I think there a lot of institutional differences between Hofstra and SBU. I feel that President Stanley really knows what needs to be done to create a thriving university from academics to athletics.

Were I not going out of state, I would have made the drive up to Colgate this weekend which would have been fun :(

I think the site was already great and now its even better.  I like the new format.  Thanks!

Is it me or is Malcom Eugene a specimen that is built like a prototype NFL receiver?  No wonder few can stop this kid.

Btw big time kudos to Chrissy D & his brother for feeding me beers in the parking lot.  J-Billy showed up too!

Chair, man I got late to the tailgate. I woke up late, missed two trains and ended up getting there mid afternoon unfortunately. To add to the craziness, phone died an hour after getting there. that what i hate about smartphones. I wasn't able to meet up with a ton of people including you. sucks. I really hope to spend sometime with ya in the near future.

with that said, I did had a pretty good time. Got pretty smashed at the bench afterwards. Don't even know how i made home. Gotta love the Brook

hell yessssss i got into the game. Bad thing is that I like sitting the in the student section with a few alumnus that still sit there. but this time around we didn't come in early enough so we got relegated to the back rows of the bottom tier. I guess that's what happens in homecoming games when student flood the red zone. Game was awesome though, the students were into it. there was a lot spirit all around.

In the CAA you half to have a balance attack; check out the numbers from each team in the CAA & you will find passing is a key part of the game.

You have much better athletes in the CAA; when i was reviewing stats i notice that each team had 1 TE who receive an average of 3 passes a game.

When you open up the short routes w TE & WR you force the defense to spread and it help to open the running game.  if you don't the defense will stack the box & shut down the running game.  It will also help to open up the deep route; we have 2 very good deep threat receivers....

This next game is not an easy one they almost beat Maine who is a very good team. let's say a few prayers and hopefully some of the starters get healthy. This seasons SB plays a difficult schedule & they will need to adapt to this level of play.

Looking forward to the rest of the season...........

Never mentioned it before, but Stony Brook has a major-college quality marching band that reflects quality of music department.

Man. that surely sounds like fun. Your brother makes it down to every game from LI? that's insane!!!

#3 vs #5. Doesn't get better than that. Should be a great matchup. I'll be watching on TV!
