Reminds me of McBride- same game.  A true finisher, but not necessarily a crease attacker.  Makes living on the wing, steps up into crease when necessary.  He seems to be a right place right time guy (because he makes it so).  But he does more, as he is comfortable at X.  Strength, though, is off ball.

In the videos linked above, he is sometimes inexplicably open- on the crease no less; a testament to his lax IQ, as only a FR/SO.

Great shot placement and only a soph.  Never puts much on the ball because he never has to; all of his shots are in close and the goalie, is, already beaten.  Likes the face dodge too, not sure if that will get him a better shot at the college level (slides will come early).  He does understand the tuck after the dodge, so no hanging the stick.  Yes, this still happens at the D1 level, mind-boggling.

Also noted he developed the fade away shot and fade away feed; he can play off the back foot, which will be helpful against the pressure poles in D1.  That can get his hands free and create feeds.  Would like to see more left hand.

Saw some transition, some feeding, some GBs.  I like that he, for a thinner guy (only a soph) isnt afraid to get dirty inside the crease.  Plenty of time to put on 20 lbs of muscle!  PS he is 6' and only 15.

This kid is good.  Could be a role player for us (perhaps EMO early on, with his off-ball style of play).  Future is him and Sheets on attack- not bad!

Ryan Ozsvath, A, Half Hollow Hills West (N.Y.) has verbally committed to Stony Brook. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound recruit has started on varsity two years, tallying 29 goals and 7 assists to lead his team in goals. He was also named to the 'Final 40' in the Long Island Showcase for rising juniors. Ozsvath strongly considered Boston U., UMass, High Point and Loyola.

Danny Hughes from Shoreham Wading River announced on twitter that he's committed to Stony Brook. I can't find too much on with regards to lacrosse except that he had 4 points last year on a Long Island championship team including a goal in the downstate championship game. However it looks like he's going to be a three year starter at Shoreham on their football and basketball teams.

i like his mechanics on his shot.  he is one of the bigger guys out there and that seems to be the standard now for SB middies.  he has plenty of time to grow as he isnt graduating for another year.

he can faceoff, shoot, and play defense.  that makes your chances of playing a lot better.

here's what i like- a shifty X attacker, reminds me of Sichenzia a bit.  very good at finishing (mid range especially), can feed, cut, sneak, play off ball, fast breaks, and most importantly, i really like his ability to cut through traffic and grab passes (a la Eastwood).  he's a little small but plays big and has time to grow.

i only saw few two man sets behind, which suggests that he is comfortable in a 141 or a 132 being all alone under the GLE.  he seems to be a dodge first, pass second in this situation (in a good way), reminds me of Cappadoro.  i suspect he is a creator, a guy you run your offense through.  he's got so many points he must have a hand in half the goals his team scores.

i didnt see too much work in the crease, as i dont think that's his game, but in the short footage i saw i really like the he knows how to follow a slide to get himself open.

and he looks very comfortable in the scarlet & white.   ;D ;D ;D

.@ConnectLAX boys’ recruit:
Stony Brook gets commitment from Bethlehem Central (NY) 2015 goalie Comber

By K.I. Goldberg
LILacrossenews.com, Posted 2/19/14

Bethlehem Central High School (NY) junior goalie Dan Comber has made a commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Stony Brook University.

Dan Comber ledger:
High School: Bethlehem Central High School, New York
Graduation Year: 2015
Position: Goalie

College Choice: Stony Brook University
Club Affiliation: Albany Power
Lacrosse Honors: 2013 2nd team All-League, 2013 Times Union All-Star, Pride of New England

Academic Honors: Honor Roll (4 semesters), Merit Roll (1 semester)
What will you major in/study? Mechanical Engineering

Why did you choose Stony Brook? “For me, Stony Brook really felt like the right choice. The academic rigor of the University, especially the prestige of the Engineering program, along with top level lacrosse at a place I really felt like I fit in. Coach (Jim) Nagle, Coach (Craig) Gibson, and Coach (Andrew) Watkins were all extremely welcoming and I really like the way they coach. All the players I met had very positive things to say about Stony Brook, both academically and athletically. Overall, Stony Brook felt like a great choice for me.”

Thoughts on the upcoming HS lacrosse season? “We’re all extremely excited for the spring season. This year we are lucky to have lots of key returning players, including an entire returning starting defense. We’re looking to work hard and hopefully see results in the season.”

Thank You: “I really would like to thank all my coaches, my parents, and everyone else that helped me throughout this process. The support and understanding has been great throughout this experience. I’ve had to do lots of traveling and lots of decision making, and my parents and family have been there for me throughout it all. All my coaches have been extremely helpful, from contacting coaches to assisting me in my tougher decisions. Without them, this process and my whole lacrosse career wouldn’t be possible.”

Other schools considered: Le Moyne, Colgate, Penn

Ozsvath is off to solid start to the year with 25 goals in 7 games. His Hills West team is also off to a solid start at 5-2 with the two losses coming against the Smithtowns who might be the two best teams in Suffolk.

thanks DDT!  a good defensive class forming with a kid from syosset, a kid from west islip (both big boys) a pole from BC and a goalie from upstate.  and the year before that is chock full of defensemen with abdellatif, ross, talay, randall, and anderson.  and maciejewski in goal.

looks like he is a lefty, can use his right though (passing and catching).  reminds me of nick maturro (not because he is from west islip) but because he is a good combo of size and pressure defense (not very common i dont think).  good checks and takes body.  it looks like he can open up the stride in transition, which is especially good for such a big frame.

minor point but id like to see him use the stick length- its six feet, he's got long arms.  keep attackers a stick length away, especially when behind.  if they are inside on you, some consider that already beat.  good find for coach.

Maturro was such a beast. I miss those days. Laid out some big hits and put that big body in front of anyone's shot. I have not made it to many West Islip varsity games this year so only saw Seaberg at the JV level last year. Hope to get to some Suffolk playoff games so should see him soon.

Oszvath at HHH ended up with 53, 4, which is 3rd in Suffolk for goals and 6th on LI in goals.  He's only a sophomore and scored at least 2 in each game.

They finished the season poorly at Northport in the playoffs, but had one nice upset against Whitman and nearly toppled West Islip on the road.

Playoff update:

Ozsvath at HHH West finished 11-6 with a playoff loss to Northport, who they beat earlier in the year.  They beat Whitman earlier in the year.  Ozsvath piled up 53, 4 in his junior season in 17 games.

Alejo at Syosset went 13-5, defeating Hicksville in the first round and losing to Massapequa in the second.  Biggest win was Oceanside, nearly toppled CSH on the road, losing in OT.

Daly and Lynbrook are an astounding 18-1 and will play red-hot Rocky Point for the LI Championship on Saturday.  The Owls won three playoff games to obtain the Nassau B title, doubling up Bethpage and Manhasset on the way.  Biggest win was Oceanside.  Daly recorded 26, 13 in his junior year: http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/player.php?id=150112&schoolyear=2014

Howell at Wilson West Lawn are currently 24-1 with two big wins over Hershey, winning Berks County, and then another playoff win over Emmaus.  They take on Avon Grove on Saturday.  Laxpower likes WWL at #90 in the CPU ratings, if that's worth anything to you.  Howell has 17, 10 so far: http://highschoolsports.pennlive.com/school/west-lawn-wilson-high-school/boyslacrosse/

Comber at Bethlehem finished 7-10, i dont think they made the playoffs.  They play a brutal schedule and the scores were kept pretty low with Comber in cage.  They defeated Lasalle, Colonie, and CBA.

Seaberg and West Islip closed out the season at 13-7 with a loss in the conference championship to Smithtown East.  Notable wins include WM and Smithtown West, both in the playoffs.  The defense was pretty dominant for most of the season.  Laxpower CPU has them at #83 nationally.

Hughes at Shoreham (with Anderson) finished 9-8 in the Section B 11 gauntlet, im not sure if they made the playoffs.  They had a big setback last year over the dismissal of a longtime coach, who brought them to the national spotlight and kept them there for many years.  Hughes tallied 26, 7 on the year: http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/player.php?id=151052&schoolyear=2014

looks good.  listed as a middie, some video shows attack.  lots of time left in high school.  good inside and outside shot, showed the weak hand.  plays against good competition on a winning team.

he dodges from everywhere.  strength is in the split dodge, fast enough to create room for himself.  i wonder if teams slide to him; none on film did.  video shows a lot of long range bouncers off screens that go in.  has a nifty stick fake too.  plays well in traffic, keeps his feet moving.

Great move by coach.

June 9, 2015

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook head men's lacrosse coach Jim Nagle announced that Zach Oliveri has accepted a grant-in-aid offer and will join the Seawolves in the fall.

Oliveri, a transfer from Massachusetts, will have one year of eligibility.

"We're excited to welcome Zach to the Seawolves family," Nagle said. "Zach brings a wealth of experience to the goalie position. He was a terrific player at UMass and will provide our team with experience and wisdom."

After redshirting as a freshman, Oliveri started 43 straight games, registering a 9.48 goals against average and a .532 save percentage. He posted 21 career games with 10 saves or more, including 15 in a 10-9 loss to Albany, the nation's top scoring team.

As a redshirt freshman, Oliveri finished the 2013 season with a 8.63 GAA and a .559 save percentage. In the second game of the season, Oliveri made 18 saves in a 12-11 victory over No. 4 North Carolina.

Oliveri starred at nearby Connetquot High School, earning US Lacrosse All-America honors. A top-100 recruit and top-15 goalie, Oliveri was the starting goalie for the USA U19 team that won a gold medal in Finland in 2012.

Stony Brook returns eight starters and 30 letterwinners from a team that went 13-5 and advanced to the America East Championship game.

for some reason- newsday says he had 25,7 as a senior (is that possible?), and the goseawolves says 34,27 as a senior.  the video shows he's at close, maybe LSM sometimes. http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/player.php?id=181442

he might have taken a year off to do some volunteering abroad, cant figure it out.  might have been through the university.  if so, great.  also I read that he originally committed to SB for football, not sure if he's trying for both.

According to Calabria, the key to these impressive wins is simple: team defense. Calabria points to the efforts of close defenders E.J. Aronson and Dave Reiter and short-stick defender Michael Elardo. Elardo blanketed Massapequa's Ryan Tierney (Hofstra), while Aronson was responsible for covering Paul Dilena (Marist). Reiter is the overall leader of the defense, Calabria said.

Syosset HS is a national powerhouse.  In 2014, they went 13-5 losing to Pequa in the second round.  In 2015, they went 18-2, won LI and lost to Nisky in the states.  http://laxpower.com/update16/binboy/XSYONY.PHP

looks like he may have been a goalie at one point in his past, and also that he committed to play hockey in 2015.  so perhaps we came for hockey, and as a sophomore, is walking on for lax. http://www.whalernation.com/news_article/show/514285?referrer_id=76492
