Thanks for the videos. BTW, were you get all this recruiting info for Lax?

Do you think our team has any chance of competing for a Championship this year? We lost a lot of our guys... I'm not sure how good the team is going to be

Might be a good idea to get in touch with the SBU posters on laxpower.com's forum. They'd be great additions to our board as well.

I got the lax info from http://www.laxpower.com/ There is a recruit search there and a thread for SBU's mens lacrosse. I put a link up on the thread over there so hopefully some of those guys will join us here as well.

hey guys just to clarify- i think these guys are attending in the fall of 2012, meaning they wont play until 2013- correct?

otherwise, for the guys attending this fall (2011) that will play in 2012:

239   1   McGushin, Pat   St. Charles   IL   St. Charles North   IL   Goalie   E   Stony Brook
265   1   Scalera, Matt   Port Jefferson Station   NY   Comsewogue   NY   Defense   R   Stony Brook
316   1   Dorsey, Andrew   Clifton Park   NY   Shenendehowa   NY   Defense   E   Stony Brook
329   1   Duddy, Connor   Port Jefferson Station   NY   Comsewogue   NY   Midfield   R   Stony Brook
455   1   Lucas, Alec   Coppell   TX   Coppell   TX   Midfield/FO   E   Stony Brook
478   1   Diggle, Michael   West Islip   NY   West Islip   NY   Midfield   E   Stony Brook
481   1   Miller, Luke   Mastic   NY   William Floyd   NY   Midfield   E   Stony Brook
483   1   Berger, Justin   Kendall Park   NJ   South Brunswick   NJ   Defense   R   Stony Brook
543   1   Harris, Alex   Holbrook   NY   Sachem North   NY   Defense   E   Stony Brook
29241   Pynn, Mason   Saanich   BC   Claremont Secondary   BC   Midfield   R   Stony Brook
31881   Pelella, Nick   Port Jefferson Station   NY   Comeswogue   NY   Midfield/FO   R   Stony Brook
32421   Tundo, Jeff   Orchard Park    NY   Orchard Park/Ohio State   NY   Attack   TR   Stony Brook

Ive heard that Mason Pynn didnt show up- anyone know what happened there?

Also heard that there were cuts, and these guys being recruits, early signees, scholarship, etc. id imagine they didnt get cut.  But you never know.

Tundo is the OSU transfer, should start right away.  He has two years left.

Also this year they pulled in another transfer from OSU, Ryan Keneally, who i think is a grad student.  They need goalie depth as i heard that DiGiacomo is off the roster, leaving only McGushin.

yeah 2012 for the year they graduate high school.

Bummer about mason. He was one of the recruits I was most excited about.  Tundo should ease the transition of replacing 5 offensive starters. He was a big pick up imo. Any word on how the faceoff men look? The two freshman looked real promising as seniors in high school.

Yeah, me too.  Maybe he'll come next year!

Tundo is great, ive seen him play, massive pickup.  Hopefully fills in where McBride left off.  I wonder if Adams moves to X where Compitello had three great seasons.

At FOGO i heard Cureton left, so that leaves Smith, Pelella, and Lucas.  If i get out there this wkd and figure out who is who, ill certainly report back!

Nagel adds another recruit in 2012 attackman Jack Sichenzia from Sayville. Looks like he originally committed to Colgate.

Thanks SBUFAN!!!  That makes 11 for the Class of 2016, and we are still hearing that Nagle is working on Tyler Andreassi and Jake Cabble for this class (though far from certain yet).

We never had bad luck with our Canadian recruits  this is  a nice pick up for sure.  I suspect we will surprise folks in 2012  and go right back into the National Rankings in 2013.

Read over at Laxpower that Nagle signed Matt Schultz from Smithtown West, who i thought was committed to Cornell... if so, that is a massive signing...  any info???

Just saw this on Andreassi and Cabble http://sachem.patch.com/articles/andreassi-cable-gamblin-headed-back-to-li

Matt Schultz would certainly be a big addition for Stony Brook, but I haven't heard anything. I think Nagle is doing a great job on the recruiting trail so nothing would surprise me.

Edit: just did some Laxpower research and it seems he decommitted from Cornell in early October and was considering Penn State, Stony Brook and Hofstra http://network.laxpower.com/laxforum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=44175&p=908820&hilit=+schultz#p908820

Chairman, how do you think Nagle's first recruiting class compares to previous classes? I've been really impressed, but I haven't been following Stony Brook lacrosse very long.
Title: Re: 2013 Recruits- Class of 2016
Post by: Chairman of the Board on November 16, 2011, 10:52:16 am
Excellent.  SB was a place that in the past relied on team effort to win and not individual star talent.  They could never 10 years ago compete for the kids looking at the ACC or Ivy.  Thats slowly changed over the last 10 years and is now quickly changing.

Nagle wasnt kidding when he said he would focus on BC/ONT, LI, Mass, Philly, and Upstate NY.  I do think the recruits coming in are even better than in years past (on the whole).  Never know who will step in and be the next 4x AA (McBride) or NCAA Player of the Year (Crowley).  Word is that McBride was a carpenter before Sowell found him at a camp.  He said you should check out this kid i know, Kevin Crowley.

If Andreassi and Schultz eventually do sign, i would have to think those are the two highest profile kids SB has signed to date.

thanks Redwyn!  Yes, that is a huge pickup.

Dare i say it, but are we going to have a logjam of talent now on offense?  The Class of 2016 *alone* has Andreassi, Schultz, Sichenzia, Berardis, Buron, Wood, etc.  And the roster already returns Tundo, Watson, Bellando, Rooney.  We also pick up Cabble, Rogers, White, and who knows who else next year?  There's also Duddy and Zorn.  Sure some guys may not pan out, or be hurt, or leave, but the future has to be bright.

Hope so, it looks like a good idea!  I hope we retain all this talent!  WOW its gonna be tough to get playing time.  That should make this team better.

Latest recruiting updates:

-Schultz: http://lilacrossenews.com/2011/12/05/mens-recruit-smithtown-west-senior-attackman-schultz-commits-to-stony-brook/

-Lucas Rock (Bay Shore, NY) i heard committed, but cant find anything official... any insiders on here?   ::)

For the 2017s havent heard anything yet other than Brad Garcia and Hayden Johnstone.  But to be honest, if that was the entire class, we are still looking good with the 2015s and 2016s.  Plus the transfers have been huge- Tundo, Andreassi, Cabble, Moeller.  Anyone have more info on Luke Miller or Derek Muzio?

So i still dont have anything in writing to confirm Lucas Rock for 2016, however, i found two more commitments-

Jeffrey Reh (Miller Place) Attack 2016
Sean Brady (Huntington) Goal 2013

Brady was a former St. Anthony's goalie that transferred to Huntington, went to Duke, left.  Heard he is coming to SB and has two years left.  Ironically enough, he played with Keneally at St. Anthony's.

And he also played with Mike Rock (goalie at Duke) who is Lucas Rock's older brother i think.  Corrections welcome!

Just watched Sayville play on TV. We have 2 incoming players for 2013. Both are cousins, Jake Sichenzia attack and Steven Ferreira LSM. Didn't see much from Sichenzia kinda on the small size, but Ferreira looks like a player. He played both sides of the field and also took f/o. He has the size 6'1 170,
resembles Waldek, not saying he is but same build. Has speed, great with the stick. On top of being 2 time all county player he also ended football career with the record for passing yards 6,407 & TD'S w/ 73. All L.I., All State and team won Rutgers Cup in 2011. I know it's football but these type players usually make real good Div 1 lacrosse players, just look at how Starsia recruits at Virginia. Also on his weekly spot on msg varsity Paul Carcaterra listed Matt Shultz (47pts Smithtown W) in his top 20 best players on the island. Carcaterra stated that he will make impact as a freshman next year and was a steal for the Brook to get him from Cornell. If interested you can watch 2014 commit Tyler Andreassi from Sachem North on Thurs
at 4pm on msg varsity.

Chairman I first heard about Ferierra on MSG varsity telecast last week.  They are really accurate with recruiting info.  Also lax alumni page reported that he signed. I had originally read an article in newsday about 1 month ago.

Chairman did not know that you were the guy on the alumni page good stuff.  I did read it in newsday and the msg varsity game announcer also reported it I'm still trying to get more info but like I said msg varsity has reliable reporting.  They have a lacrosse only call in show tonight so I will give them a call to see if I can confirm.

So i dont expect that this class is done, but there's already 18 freshman for the 2013 season!

Tom Monzo   FR   Defense   Philadelphia   PA   PA
Dan Shaughnessy FR Goalie   Sudbury, MA   MA   MA

5 committed so far for the Class of 2017.

In my opinion Stony Brook should always be bringing in large classes. Stony Brook isn't going to get many players like Schultz from Cornell. I think we have to play a numbers game and see which kids work out, and because Stony Brook tuition is so reasonable, it shouldn't be hard to split our scholarships up a lot of ways and still be very competitive with peer universities as far as the total price tag of our undergraduate education.

Now, onto Ferreira, i cant exactly find anything official, however, Bob Herzog (Newsday?) posted this on twitter on 4/18, but i cant access it, i can only find this in the google search results:

Quote
Sayville lacrosse D Steven Ferreira, record-setting Newsday All-L.I. QB, accepted lax scholarship to Stony Brooik. 6:41 PM Apr 18th

Can anyone confirm?  Have a more official source???

Msg varsity made a point during telecast that both (Ferreira & Sichenzia) cousins would attend Stony Brook. I will keep trying to confirm.

St Anthony’s upset Chaminade for the CHSAA title, and IL wrote this:

The Friar defense was also excellent, paced by Jonathan Lynott and George Deignan, a pair of seniors headed to Stony Brook and Binghamton, respectively. Lynott shadowed Chaminade's top option, quarterback Ryan Lukacovic (Virginia) and disallowed him from getting anything going whatsoever.

Here is a couple of things you guys might want to know.  Matt Shultz finished the season with 91pts ( 64g 27a ) don't know how many pts he had last  year but in last 2 yrs he put up 116 goals!!!

Also another possible recruit for 2013 is mid Tom Hughes from Comsewogue ( 5'9" 160 ) 51 goals on the year w/suffolk title gm on wed 5/30
MSG announcer stated that no decision has been made but that Stony Brook, Post, Dowling were considering and he would be a late signee.
These guys alwys have great info when they do a telecast that's were I got the Ferreira info. So maybe we have another real good player coming in
from another top Suffolk program. This maybe why there is word about the roster being cut down.

Last thought after watching Sayville play Easport in the semis both Ferreira and Sichenzia are major contributers on really good Suffolk team. Sichenzia had 2 goals and Ferreira is a beast with the long pole, he took all f/o's as well. Really impressed w/both Ferreira looks like he might be able to play right away because of his size and physical play.

Sayville will play Comsewogue on Wed 5/30 at 8pm at LaValle, I will let you know when it will be televised.

Thanks Chris- i think Schultz will fit in nicely with Bellando and Rooney on attack!  And i hope they work Watson into the mix more often, as he does well when they have him on.

I heard Hughes was interested (little brother of Ryan Hughes), and there's no shortage of Comsewogue players on this team, continue the pipeline!

I dont have MSG access (which sucks, because the Rangers were great this year and i couldnt watch) so i cant see all the coverage but thanks for sharing, its very helpful.

In addition to the summary above- ive got the team records for our recruits and the Laxpower National CCR: http://www.laxpower.com/update12/binboy/natlccr.php

Buron (Duxbury) 19-4 (#34 CCR)- Mass state champs
Berardis (Mahopac) 11-7 (#334 CCR)- plays Mamaroneck tomorrow in the tourney
Lynott (St. Anthony's) 16-3 (#10 CCR)- CHSAA champs
Monzo (Penn Charter) 13-12 (#80 CCR)- lots of close losses to good teams
Rock (Bay Shore) 12-6 (#190 CCR)- lost to Sachem North in the tourney

Of course, its a crappy cpu rating, but neverthless, its what we have.

And for our three incoming canucks:
White (Peterborough)- tied for first in Ontario JR A
Lindsay (Burlington)- tied for first in Ontario JR A
Rogers (Coquitlam)- i think the WLA season just started last week

Here's the rest of the class, for what its worth:

Reh (Miller Place) 10-6 (#257 CCR)- up and down year for MP
Curry (East Meadow) 8-8 (#808 CCR)- i think they lost in the first round
McLean (Minnechaug) 11-7 (#598 CCR)- i think they lost in the second round
Ramirez (Brentwood) 3-13 (#1864 CCR)- struggled all year
Wood (Guilderland) 12-6 (#615 CCR)- blasted by Nisky in round 2
Sbarglia (Rome) 11-6 (#441 CCR)- lost in playoffs to FM
Vivian (CBA Albany) 12-6 (#695 CCR)- lost in OT to Shen in playoffs
Shaughnessy (Sudbury) 14-5 (#286 CCR)- advanced to 3rd round with OT win

All corrections welcome- as its sometimes difficult to find info on HS games. http://www.laxlessons.com/2012/05/28/york-state-boys-girls-tournament-brackets/

After watching Lucatuaro play Smithtown West in the semis it is clear that he is not just a f/o specialist.  This kid can really play the midfield, he scored a hat trick against SW.  He has speed, can dodge, and is strong as a bull.  They said Melville made a lineup change and thus Lucatuaro was on the field much more since the playofs started and has made a huge difference. When I watched him before I concentrated on the f/o and totally missed the fact that he has other tremendous skills. Has the tools to maybe be SDM. Ward Melville plays West Islip for class A Suffolk title on Wed 5/30 at 5:30 pm at LaValle. This is about as good as it gets in High School Lax.

Also watched Tyler Andreassi play West Islip in the semis.  This kid is an ox, he is built like his brother. He is really fast and hits like a truck, but yet has soft hands w/the long pole. Would compare him to Pelligrino ( JHU ) only bigger.

Chairman I will talk to you soon.

I watched some of the WM/SW game too and Lucatuaro does have some skills...big kid too.  To bad we couldn't get the FOGO for Smithtown West...that kid was dominate.  Of course he is going to Hopkins.  Why sit at the Hop when you can start at the Brook is what I always say.

Also, are we sure Nate White committed to the Brook...this report has him going to Siena:

Sayville wins Suffolk- pounded the Wogue 12-5, Sichenzia has 3,1.  They play GC next.  http://lilacrossenews.com/2012/05/30/suffolk-county-boys-championship-sayville-topples-comsewogue-12-5-for-class-c-crown/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=suffolk-county-boys-championship-sayville-topples-comsewogue-12-5-for-class-c-crown

I also read somewhere on here that SB is looking at Hughes, who had 1,1 for Comsewogue.

WM (Lucatuorto) fell to West Islip 9-6.  Mahopac (Berardis) fell to Mamaroneck 9-8.  Berardis had 2G.

Oh and this happened at LaValle Stadium! (well, not the games in Westchester)

Jake Sichenzia finished the season w/77 pts ( 50g 27a ) in 19gms. As good as Steven Ferreira is they were not able to stop Garden City in the LIC losing 9-2. Garden City is #1 in the country so that is not a reflection on the talent of these two kids. Watched 4 gms this year and both are real good, I still think Ferreira gets on the field quicker, he has great size 6'2" 190 and his athletic ability is what we need. He played LSM and I truly believe he is an upgrade. I know I talked him up alot but I truly believe a kid like this is what the program has been missing since Waldek graduated.

Good to hear about a great season for two of our players.  I wonder what role Ferreira will be in- facing off, LSM, close, none, all three, QB, whatever.  Kid is an athlete.

In Mass lacrosse news, the Lincoln Sudbury Warriors (Dan Shaughnessy '16) advance by defeating St. Johns Prep Danvers, and the Duxbury Dragons (Andrew Buron '16) advance by crushing Framingham, and the Minnechaug Falcons (Reed McLean '16) play Westfield today: http://www.laxpower.com/update12/binboy/ratingma.php

Another real good looking athlete, played fast, with good size not great. Has a cannon of a shot a uses both hands well. We will see but the talent appears to be getting better.

I noticed Rogers and Ramirez are no longer on the Laxpower recruits page.  Im not sure if Ramirez was a recruit or a walk though.

Ramirez was a Sowell recruit and per the laxpower page he has committed to Briarcliffe

It would really be nice if Nagle would post a list of incoming freshman. Football does it I do not understand why he won't. With the exception of some late transfers all incoming freshman have been signed. Nagle has to start embracing the fan base and realize that there are people that care about this stuff. Just asking to throw us a bone.

Yes but we are working with what we have.

I was watching some film last night and i really wonder where we are going to fit all these middies in the next couple of years.  Wood seems more of an invert middie, plays some wing.  But guys like Berardis and McLean and Corpolongo (2017) are dodgers who love carrying the ball and dodging and shooting.

Buron i like as a utility guy that can do it all and do it all well, great skills.  And Sbarglia to me will become a defensive middie, he runs hard, he's thick, and is a GB machine.  I could see Sbarglia being a wing guy or a d-mid that you cut loose on a clear.  Totally unselfish, a pass first shoot third type of guy.  A real throwback.  Cunningham (2017) comes in the next year.

On attack, youd have to assume Bellando inside/wing and Rooney at X.  Sichenzia looks like he is really comfortable at X, but he can shoot too.  Im wondering if Schultz starts right away!  He clearly is a finisher, but he loaded up on assists too.  Could be a function of playing with Keenan and Pannell at Smithtown.  Mahon (2017) comes in the next year.

If im right, Sowell introduced recruiting classes in late July.  If Nagle does the same, it should be coming next week, just a guess.

So Challen Rogers reappeared on the laxpower recruits database:

2977   1   Rogers, Challen   Coquitlam   BC   Charles Best Secondary   BC   Midfield   R   Stony Brook

Great news!  Lots of Canucks coming in this fall alone.

Nagel waited until Dec last year.   I know it was he first season but he had players coming and going through fall ball. I would be surprised if they updated the roster before fall ball again.  It would be nice to as least have a press release on his incoming class.

I checked the Laxpower recruits page again: http://www.laxpower.com/recruits/recruits.php?action=viewRcd&db=recruits2012

It seems now that Rogers is back on, we are now missing Ferreira (was he ever on there?) and even Jay Lindsay.  Anyone have updates?  LP is usually a credible source.

Schultz had a nice write up in the new Inside Lacrosse Mag.  He was the 56 ranked overall recurit and #19 for attack.  Said his skills as a laxer and athlete are on "another level" and should be a finisher right away.

Jon Lynott was ranked 33 for D

wow thats great news- ill get over to the store in a bit to pick up the magazine- im assuming its only in print?

with the recent departures, i might even think schultz starts right away!  also, same for lynott.  we graduated two defensemen and considering his performance in the CHSAAA championship, id say he's ready.

I agree SW97 when a kid like Shultz decommits from Cornell to play here then things are working in our favor. With the D-1 transfers in football, the transfers in Lacrosse like Andreassi leaving UMass after one semester to come here never would have happened years ago. We can finally enjoy all sports at the Brook now, we even had an olympian to watch. Good stuff.

Wonderful- i guess the one for defenders is coming out soon?

This isnt exact, but Bellando was the only guy in recent memory that i think we've had on this list.  Nonetheless, i dont put much weight into these.  I mean, it didnt have Jordan McBride and he made the AA team... four times.

Andreassi was on it last year as a UMass recruit.   I don't think Inside Lacrosse gives any love to Canadians.   They love the ACC and the Ivy.  They pretty much litter their list with the recruits of those schools.

Looks like weve signed another finisher out of BC.  This one's a lefty, plays the crease, and has a nose for the goal: https://bcla.centraldesktop.com/bcla/me ... duates.pdf

Brody Eastwood '16
Victoria, BC / Victoria JR A Shamrocks
5'10'' 185lbs
Attack
#18

More on Eastwood (think anyone calls him Clint?):

2010 Intermediate All Star Team
2011 Junior A Rookie of the Year
2011 Stats: 43G, 42A (8 hat tricks in 26 games)(finished second in league scoring; first in league goals)
2012 Stats: 39G, 26A (7 hat tricks in 19 games)(missed 4 games; finished sixth in league scoring)

A lefty.  And looks like a crease finisher.  According to his head coach: Brody is putting up some good numbers this year and it’s no smoke and mirrors. He goes to the tough places and 90% of his goals have come within 6” of the crease. He’s always moving, cutting, back picking, and rolling to the net. The sky is the limit for Brody

Now that the roster is up, we have a new attackman:

Chris Hughes '16
Oceanside, NY / Oceanside HS / Army Prep
6'3'' 190lbs
Attack
#34

2009, 2010, 2011 All County

Lead Nassau with 88 points as a senior

Looks like he is a WR, also can play midfield AND faceoff: http://www.newsday.com/sports/high-school/boys-lacrosse/hughes-record-game-leads-oceanside-boys-1.2821353

Im guessing that's his sister that just graduated from the women's team: http://www.goseawolves.org/sports/w-lacros/mtt/hughes_jackie00.html

Damn...that was a great video...can't see him not starting...he went to his left more times in that video than Robbie Campbell went in 4 years at Stony Brook.

I would think it's Tundo and Rogers and either Andreassi or Hughes on the 1st Mid line.

watched it and thought the SAME, he goes to his left!!!

a more few things i like-

-6'4'' 200lbs from BC?  sounds like k.crowley
-takes faceoffs, might not be a specialist, but could be a good switchup
-not afraid to hit
-outside shot
-likes the invert (lets face it- this is part of our offense)

some high school habits (being critical now) that i hope are fixed:

-feet planted
-spaghetti stick
-hanging stick (you learn protection QUICK in your first fallball)

I say he starts right away with Tundo and Andreassi- though id love to see what this guy Hughes can do, thats a great sized midfield right there!  Also Hughes is a lefty, so id imagine he gets a look for EMO on that left wing with Eastwood/Zorn perhaps there as well.  Eastwood could be a good crease guy for EMO, as could Schultz.

so Laxpower shows a new goalkeeper committed to SB:

Patrick Fleming '16
Sayville, NY / Sayville HS / NYIT
Goalie
5'11'' 180lbs
#13

Should be a sophomore coming in.  Clearly in touch with Ferreira and Sichenzia, as they won a Suffolk title just two years ago.  If you search for his name on Laxpower, there are a LOT of very flattering comments about him, all the way back to his sophomore year in 2010.

Garden City head coach Steve Finnell: “We were frustrated after the first quarter, we had good looks but their goalie (Patrick Fleming, 10 saves) is outstanding"

2012 Stats: 192 saves, 10-7

2010, 2011 All County

2009, 2010 LI Showcase

2009-2011- 400 saves (.680%)
