Great to have you here InsideMan. I hope you'll feel free to give your opinions about the different teams and games as well as the general direction of the department. We need as many voices as we can get here!

InsideMan: what are your thoughts on the timetable for the arena expansion?  I keep hearing about funds that are supposedly "frozen" by the state.  Is this something that will happen in the short-term (next month or so)?  I think the expansion is a necessity if the team wants to continue the momentum generated by the 2012 recruiting class.  It would also make SBU's on-campus facility equal with the best in the league (Hartford, BU)....your thoughts?

Thats  the same question I have been wondering about  since the renovation plan was announced.  I had heard about the funds being frozen.  I also heard there has been concern  that the new arena may not sell out as easily as Pritchard does  until the basketball really develops which could happen this season and next . I dont mind sitting in the bleachers though , it is always a good atmosphere fpr a game.

Two things:

1) The basketball arena will be renovated not expanded. The arena currently holds 4-5k people and according to the releases in goSeawolves.org it will hold a capacity for 4,000 spectators.

2) also, the current design of the future renovations will make the arena one of the best, if not the best, in the conference in terms of basketball-specific arena taking in consideration that Agganis Arena (Boston) is used primarily for Hockey. The pictures are here:

This $$$ needs to be released urgently if Stony Brook wants to move up  to a better conference. We need it

I heard rumors that this is currently being addressed with possibility of playing in the Arena as early as 2012-13 season. Again, those are only rumors. We have to wait and I hope InsideMan can answer some of those questions! ;)

Sorry for my delayed response.  I will always try to be as honest with you and as informative as I possibly can.  Unfortunately, some topics are just off limits.  ;)
