I think Stony Brook should reach the 30,000 mark in enrollment, cap undegraduate at 20,000 and Graduate at 10k. the 2:1 ratio should continue to be the guideline.

With 20,000 undergraduates, everyone benefits. The bigger you are, the more significant...

...to a point, ecasado. The three biggest public campuses are Arizona State, Central Florida, and Ohio State. None of those conjure up images of fine scholarly institutions to me. I first enrolled at SB when it had only 14K students, so perhaps I'm a bit biased against mega-campuses. 30,000 isn't crazy, but SB could reach new academic and athletic heights around its current enrollment numbers.

Well, You got Ohio State, University of Florida, PennState, UCLA, University of Michigan, Illinois-Urbana and the list goes on as mega AAU Universities which have great academic/research reputation. We share the research intensive similarities with these universities. We shouldn't be afraid to grow. I wouldn't like the enrollment to be 40k+ but I think somewhere around the 30k should be the goal

However, as you pointed out, we can succeed in athletics with the current amount of students.

Dr  Stanley has mentioned several times  he sees SBU as the Stanford of the East. Interesting   comment. Stanford is a premier school  academically and athletically.

We already have the "St". All we need to work on is the "anford".  ;)
