If we can leave our football in CAA, then I would love Stony Brook in Atlantic 10. But SB baseball and lacrosse fans are going to hate it. A10 is very weak in all sports except basketball in comparison to CAA. In any case I thinking we are pipe dreaming here and there much better suited schools ahead of us at the moment for A10.

So I think CAA will be more logical move. One home for all sports including FB. CAA is decent in BB even after the deflection of GMU and it is strong in lacrosse and baseball. However CAA is really unstable. Members are always moving. It stretches from Boston to Carolina! Only way it would make sense moving from AE is if CAA starts north and south divisions which would limit the trips to south.

Although AE is visionless and not aggressive, one thing we should realize that after BU has left we are probably the Flagship school in this conference. Our wishes will have a lot more weigh in AE decision making. In CAA we would be just another northern member.

So when, not if, CAA invites Stony Brook, SBU has a lot of homework to do, weighing the pros and cons. Remember it hasn't worked out for Hofstra as everyone thought it would.
