That puts it  right where Homecoming has been held the past few years. It is an open  field now .  Pretty cool picture I have it before  when it was released .

this should in theory settle it... https://brook.land/stony-brook-is-spending-more-than-almost-every-other-fcs-program-a71a2028e857

north of Lavalle.

That's an old picture of the end goal of a 25k+ seat Lavalle stadium with an IPF when we're in an FBS conference. Based on what Hammertime said SH told him, it would have to be behind the visitor stands as that's (where I remember) Wolfstock being held. Though the location in that rendering could still be right, I just kind of doubt it because of logistical space issues.

I don't see enough space behind the north endzone for the IPF. Track uses part of that area for discus and Hammer throws, not to mention the path that runs between Circle rd and the parking lot that would run right through the IPF. Unless they plan to rip up some of the student athletic fields, putting the IPF directly behind the visitor stands opposite the press box is the only spot that makes sense.

I'm more worried about gameday parking logistics for Lavalle as we grow, but that's a longer term fight that we have time to address.

This artist rendering is part of SH 5 year plan he proposed around 3 years ago.. Right now they are building a concession/ picnic area just slightly to the left of the video board, if you are standing in the middle of the field looking straight ahead.

My guess, and after talking to SH the Indoor facility is going to be left of the concession area in that large field, adjacent the track field..  There is plenty of room in that area for this structure.

I totally agree with you on parking. If, and big IF they decide to go larger with LaValle stadium parking is going to be a huge problem..

To the right of the Tennis courts, behind the existing parking lot, there appears to be a wooded lot.. I wonder if SB can add additional parking in that area, or maybe SB would have to shuttle people back and fourth from the Stony Brook road entrance parking area, west side of the university// There are a ton of parking lots open in that section for another 5k people..

i guess its possible that they reroute the path to the train.

also, i posted a couple of years ago but there is a plan to add new dorms in a tight spot, where the volleyball courts are, just southwest of the track.

That'd be a pretty tight fit you're right, but they could put more dorms there I guess. Where the dorms are on campus doesn't really matter, though I kind of like the "residential on the outside, academics on the inside" layout of the campus up to now. At least it's been consistent.

Long term, I think it would be wise to move student health services away from it's current location, bulldoze the current building, remove a couple of the tennis courts behind it, and build a multi-purpose parking garage in it's place. I'd also expand Stadium road in the process to make it a two way road for easier access to and from the stadium. Our campus has a parking problem with so many commuters, so if we could kill two birds with one stone by addressing commuter and gameday parking all at once, I'd be all for it.

yes ive always liked that design of an inner circle of academic buildings and an outer circle of residential space.

also i agree on moving the infirmary.  prime space for parking, tailgating, etc.  it should be easy to move tennis courts and the practice soccer fields.  there is some open space but we'd have to plow some trees. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.9208656,-73.1211799,661m/data=!3m1!1e3

at some point what they need to do is make the hop from nicholls to the point where stadium road meets circle road.  its short and it would feed traffic right into the stadium lot.  i think that's where langmuir college is, or maybe benedict college i forget...

Probably the source.  They are in the midst  of Fund Raising Campaign that ends 6/30/2018. The goal is 600 million dollars and I know as of today they at about 42 million short of that goal  So money is coming in large amounts I suspect it is being miss  directed .    Several programs are planned to be cut at the  end of the school year in May .

Just wondering...why does the stadium info on SB athletics website say that the "seating capacity" is 12,300?

http://www.stonybrookathletics.com/sports/2016/8/25/facilities-ston-10-lavalle-html.aspx

It says that "expanded in the summer of 2017 to its current capacity of 12,300".

Wasn't the seating capacity 8,200 before and now with additional 2,000 total would be 10,200? Does the seating capacity of 12,300 include standing attendance?

SB definitely plays with the numbers. I guess the same reason they claimed we had over 12,000 fans at the homecoming game..

its gotta be standing.  we have that catwalk that goes around the entire circumference.  totally doable that this is another 2000 people.  or even that grass hill on the west side of the stadium.

The additional 2k  is standees.  Seating capacity is 10,300   add 2k or so standing fans and bingo we have 12.3 k capacity.  I think they want that out there for the FBS  Conferences interest.  Last summer I drove past Coastal Carolinas  stadium  and  I stopped to look around .  Not much bigger than ours and I think ours looks more like a stadium . Brooks Stadium has a high school  look to it with open bleachers.  But Coastal is FBS now and Brooks is a I believe a legit 12k seating capacity .
