STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook University alumnus, Glenn Dubin ('78, ’12) and his wife Eva, announced today a $5 million pledge in the form of a 1:1 matching challenge grant, setting the stage for the Stony Brook Foundation and Stony Brook Athletics to complete a $10 million fundraising goal to build a new Indoor Training Center through Together We Transform, a five-year comprehensive plan launched by Stony Brook Athletics in June. All gifts received between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016, restricted for the Indoor Training Center Fund, will be counted toward the goal.

“Over the past decade, Glenn and Eva Dubin have shown incredible vision and had a tremendous impact on Stony Brook Athletics,” said University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. “This new challenge match gives others the opportunity to play an active role in the success of our student athletes and our Athletic program.”

The new state-of-the-art indoor practice facility and complex will be sited in close proximity to Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium and designed to feature a 100-yard indoor multi-purpose synthetic turf practice field. The design includes innovative lighting, filming equipment, sound and video systems, and a 90-foot ceiling clearance height; it will also contain support facilities including restrooms and storage. The new indoor practice facility will also be designed for multi-use allowing all Stony Brook intercollegiate athletic teams to have a place to practice and train all year round.

“I’ve had the privilege to get to know Glenn over the last few years and I have always been impressed by how proud he is of his alma mater and how he wants to do whatever he can to help our great University,” head football coach Chuck Priore said. “It is people like Glenn and Eva and their willingness to support not just the football program, but all of Stony Brook Athletics, that will help take us to new heights. This gift will have an immediate impact on our football program and our ability to recruit top-student-athletes.”

awesome news.  some thoughts.  what will this be called?  will it ever host contests?  assuming it will go between the path and the north end zone?  doesn't look to be enough room, unless it goes sideways: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.9187712,-73.1243462,555m/data=!3m1!1e3

I don't know how accurate the renderings are meant to be from the Master Plan, but if you can believe them, the placement of the indoor facility looks to appear lengthwise to North end zone.

so from that rendering, it's clearly not in the rugby/soccer fields (over the path), and it wont fit below the path, so I wonder if they are merely moving the path...

very cool thanks for the link!

“When you go on campus on recruiting visit, unfortunately young adults want to see things that they think they’re going to utilize all the time. When you have an indoor facility like that, where you can walk them in, that the Univeristy of Delaware has, we lose a recruit when we don’t have that opportunity,” he said during a May meet-and-greet with potential donors.

Indianapolis - The NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee has announced that WakeMed Stadium in Cary, North Carolina, and Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, New York, will host national semifinal and final matches for the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championships.

“Stony Brook was an outstanding site with enthusiastic crowds for the 2011 and 2012 championships and we look forward to returning to New York, which has always shown strong support for women’s lacrosse.”

The NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship will return to Stony Brook University for the third time in 2018 after Northwestern won back-to-back championships in 2011 and 2012 in front of two of the six largest crowds in the championship game’s history.

Starting with the end zone project in LaValle, we are awaiting bids from qualified contractors to be submitted in the very near future. The project that will add 2,000 seats, a building for restrooms and concessions, and a new ticket booth has an estimated completion date of Spring 2017. The proposal for this project includes a very aggressive timeline so we look forward to learning more specifics after the contractor bids are opened within the next few weeks.

Finally, our goal of having the Dubin Family Indoor Training Center by next year remains a priority. The Dubin Challenge has been met and we will announce our plans in the very near future. We have begun looking at other indoor facilities and have a good idea of what we would like to build at Stony Brook.

Two important projects that will make a positive impact on football are planned for 2017. The Dubin Family Indoor Training Center was the greatest priority for our program and, with the funding in place, we are optimistic that it will be completed next year. We are in the process of selecting an architect now and hope to commence construction in the spring.

The LaValle Stadium end zone expansion, which will add 2000 seats and additional restrooms and concessions, officially commences on Monday with a kickoff meeting with our architect and general contractor. This work is expected to be completed in time for the 2017 football season.

Our coaches are currently on the road searching for the next group of Seawolves. Recruiting is another area that we have streamlined since the addition of Patrick Hatch as Assistant AD for Player Personnel. As a former coach, Patrick has changed the way that we communicate and market to recruits as well as providing a trained set of eyes to evaluate film.

last one is interesting- is he a recruiter for all sports, or just football?

enzo zucconi- a job well done: https://www.sbstatesman.com/2017/03/27/enzo-zucconi-equipment-manager-jokester-locker-room-psychologist/#.WNply91ijKg.twitter

The Stony Brook Athletics equipment management department is “putting out fires everyday” and Zucconi is right at the center, extinguishing each one. “You must be able to think on your feet,” he said.

Zucconi recognizes that the pressure to win will inevitably breed stress and head-butting for student-athletes and coaches. That is why he aims to make the equipment room a haven where coaches and players can stop in at anytime to chat or blow off steam.
