2019 Baseball season
« on: January 22, 2019, 10:14:15 am »
The 2019 Seawolves baseball season schedule is already up:
https://stonybrookathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=baseball

I am not a big follower of baseball, college or pro... but I wonder what happened to our baseball momentum? Was 2012 CWS appearance the peak? I had assumed that the success and publicity of that year would propel ourselves to a perennial AE juggernaut and regular tournament appearances. Why is the lack of success? talent drop? Can someone with more insight shed some light please?

PS Admin/Mod I think we can unpin all the threads except the rules of the board thread and this thread, please.

I agree we have dropped off since our great season.  Coach doesnt even post who he has recruited or signed .  I would think  kids would love to play here given the new field and our facilities.  I dont expect that much again this season . A top 4 finish in the conference would be good.

2012 was an aberration; the stars aligned with that team. The Big problem is that big time players donít play in the Northeast; they gravitate to the south and west. Here on Long Island youíre playing more than 1/2 your season in the freezing cold. Who in their right mind, with exceptional talent, would sign up for that?  Only kids that really want to stay home. Donít blame Senk; the cards are stacked against him when it comes to recruitment.
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

That makes so much sense. Didn’t think about cold. Just look at the list below. Only like 2-3 cold weather schools in top 25!

But I was expecting the team to at least use the momentum to dominate the America East. I believe they've only won 1 title since they went to the CWS. That's pretty disappointing. I do think the Dubin Indoor Practice facility will be a big help for the team though assuming it's large enough to run some drills in their during the colder months.

Baseball comes from behind Saturday night and wins with a 9th inning Homer.  Our Seawolves are 2-0 .

We havent had many long ball hitters since the 2012 Dream team . Looks like that has changed this season !

This team could be really good this year. We've been just a few pieces away but a couple big JuCo transfers have me really optimistic.

It's always challening early in the year for us but its great to see the Seawolves off to a 2-1 start. Obviously the last game was a bit of a clunker but I'll take this start any day of the week.

On a side note, nice to see Daniel Zamora highlighted in the under the radar prospect section on ESPN. If he has a big role this year for the Mets, I'll be stoked as it will benefit my Mets as well as Stony Brook locally.

Our long ball hitters  did it again yesterday !  Beating SE La 7-4  off a grand slam .   The Seawolves are 3-2 on the season .

Michael Wilson is a beast- kid is playing himself into consideration for a high draft pick hopefully. This team has incredible depth

Team is hitting its groove.
