2014 Baseball Season
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:25:06 pm »
Stony Brook kicks off its 2014 regular season at Florida International University on February 21st after the cancellation of its first originally scheduled series against Southern Miss due to inclement weather. Seawolves look to bounce back to their winning ways after having a sub .500 campaign in 2013 for the first time since 2006. Hopefully they can bounce back and get into the NCAA tournament and ride the NCAA tournament like they did in 2012. Its going to hard to get there again, but if we did it once there is no doubt we can do it again in the future.

Our guys have to shake the rust off.  FIU already played 5 or 6 games before we went down there, and they practice outdoors all winter in Miami.  We  should see some improvement  this weekend . Cant practice in the Vortex on Long Island.

Yeah there's rust, but they were outscored 28-4. That's not encouraging, rust or not.

Hope this weekend is better, but ry you might be on too something. Where is your pre-season preview?
When all the players are on the field and they have more time on field outside we'll see how good they really can be.

What I don't see are any  long ball hitters on this team. The FIU announcers were  fair and pointed out our best  home run hitter last season was Kevin Courtney  with 8.  That's in 50 plus games  ! Our team of 2012 could put the ball anywhere in the park or  out of it. That's the difference.  Still no real power.

Starting off this season like last season. Not good at all. 2012 seems far far away.

I'm not sure they won three games in a row all of last season

What a breather. Thank god they won a series. I'm not asking for a lot. I just want them to at least continue to compete for a shot in the NCAAs. I know its going to be hard getting into the College World Series (but surely possible) in the next couple of years but if they at least can get into the tourney consistently that would be great.

Nice win over USC, a team that is probably in the middle of the PAC-12.
