Wow... that's HUGE. I couldn't imagine what having literally zero in person classes would have been like as a student. I have no doubt the IT infrastructure to support this kind of thing has improved dramatically in the last 6-7 years though.

Its over

COVID-19 has officially ruined the month of March, and probably the entire spring.

.... and if the market continues to react in such a way... It may ruin a lot of lives also.

Alot of over reaction to this virus. College and pro sports , Broadway theater , schools , parades  very chaotic  probably  worse than the disease itself.

Perhaps in hindsight it will look this way, but as things currently stand? I disagree. We don't know what we're up against and this thing could easily mutate into something much more severe. The good that I think will come of this is that telework will become more prevalent in the country, and people will be better prepared for diseases like this in the future. I also hope it means China finally shuts down these damn wet-market meat markets where all these damn diseases originate. There will be tremendous pressure on them to do so.

I strongly believe this is way overblown. There are a lot of videos coming out from patients, some very old patients who were tested positive for the Virus and lived to tell their stories. MOst are saying the virus is nothing more than a mild cold.

We cannot shut down society for ever . Now we are hearing this could last 6-9 months does that mean we live in a vacuum until this passes ?   Fear is driving this behavior let get back to normal  the sooner the better . Not worried about China and their meat markets right now .

Your best sources for unbiased information on this situation are likely the US Federal Govt CDC site and the World Health Organization site:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html

https://www.who.int/

Truly disheartening what has unfolded in the sports world, from student athletes here at SBU and beyond, yet this increasingly appears to be a time for action. Here's hoping that in the fall and in the years to come we can return to bickering about coaches and players and game strategy and see the SBU athletes in action on the fields and courts.

It's good that it's a mild cold for most people. That's great actually, but we should still take this seriously as it's easily spread and has a much higher mortality rate than the seasonal flu. We also just don't know a whole lot about it yet and there's no vaccine. Sure it would be nice if events like the NCAA tournament and life in general could go on, but that's just not a risk people are willing to take right now and that's fine by me. We'll get through this and be better prepared for the next one. Also as mentioned there will be tremendous pressure for China to shut those wet markets down since that's where this as well as Swine Flu and SARS also originated.

The NCAA Council Coordination Committee has "agreed to grant relief for the use of a season of competition for student-athletes who have participated in spring sports," Stadium college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman tweeted Friday afternoon.

Ten minutes later, The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach tweeted, "Per source, NCAA sent a note to membership today saying it believes 'it will be appropriate to grant relief for the use of a season for competition for student-athletes who have participated in spring sports.'"
